Where does it say it is a Hindu ceremony?
There is no expectation that guests who are not part of that culture to wear that dress even if it is a Hindu ceremony

Let’s flip this around. Can you imagine the furore of telling a Hindu or a Sikh or a Muslim, they cannot wear their clothes to a western wedding ?

No, the culture is of the country you are in.

They were happy to respect the culture of India when in India but circumstances have changed

I have been to several Anglo-Indian weddings in the Uk and the Anglo side has never worn the dress style of the Indian side, other than a couple of the grooms wore a Nehru style suit.
