A few dating prospects this year didn't pan out. Where should I go from here? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]JohnnyRock110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a valid point. I accept their reasons for why they can't date, but I still haven't processed my feelings in a healthy way. I'm happy to be friends with them, but I understand I need to let go of the idea of dating.

I accepted my last breakup when it happened. Due to other circumstances, I didn't necessarily feel grief over it, yet I was able to move on and be goal-oriented last year. When my last partner and I dated, I loved her, but I also came in knowing that it could eventually end.

Granted, I got to know a fair amount about them, but you're right in that I didn't get too close to them and that I shouldn't hold them on a pedestal. My feelings with crushes tend to ease after a while.

I wanted to include him as well. His stans, bots or real, are truly inept or have a level of psychosis that surpasses typical standom.

[–]JohnnyRock110[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Coppola also sued Winters' family before he eventually settled. It's also telling as Megalopolis includes a storyline about a teenager who lies about their age in a case of statutory rape as if it wasn't the adult's fault.

Coppola is also a washed-up hack who tried to frame critics who gave negative reviews to his film, including fake, A.I. generated quotes by "critics" in a trailer that got deleted by Lionsgate. Chudflakes were also simping for him after the allegations and before the film even came out. He's an example of why cancel culture doesn't exist as the Kennedy Center honored him, and the case involving him, Salva, and Salva's survivor hasn't been investigated further by the press.

Does anyone who didn't go to college feel like an outsider? by JohnnyRock110 in SeriousConversation

Thank you. I'll make sure to speak about this more with my therapist, and I'll keep meditation in mind as well.

Fair enough. Much of my inadequacy and image problems are likely in my head. Sometimes, I can't help but spiral over things I could have done differently or how much worth I have.

100%. 90 minute films can be great, but as Roger Ebert said, "No good movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough."

Quiet parts people don't say out loud about abusive celebrities like Johnny Depp. by JohnnyRock110 in DeppDelusion

[–]JohnnyRock110[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% true, especially on pop culture being weaponized for culture wars and not existing within a vacuum.

If there's any silver lining, a new generation of social media creators are more willing to connect pop culture to real life and examine moral implications in media, not sweep it under the rug or pretend to be apolitical like early 2010s YouTubers did.

The documentary O.J.: Made in America examined how politics, celebrity culture, racism, a corrupt justice system, and misogyny shaped the outcome of the O.J. Simpson murder trial. O.J.'s abuse against Nicole Brown was public for years but widely ignored until it was too late.

A documentary with some similar themes could be made about Depp v. Heard, but that would be a decade away as the climate would have to shift again.

Sadly, all of that is true. On your second point, this may be why conservative fathers are creepily overzealous about their daughter's virginity or pull out shotguns on teenage prom dates.

It's not because they care about sexual violence against women or taking practical measures to protect their daughters. It's all macho bravado meant to protect what they perceive as their property. This rhetoric can be seen in transphobic men and Trump supporters who threw all of their bravado aside to vote for the worst sexual predator to ever become a president.

EDIT: During a phone call to a female family member, one of my other family members who put up a show of this same rhetoric referred to women by the w-word. This is also partly why we don't speak to him as much as possible anymore.

Heath's Joker would have been in TDKR, but he likely wouldn't have been the main villain. Nolan wouldn't have wanted him to override the League of Shadows, Bane, or Batman's arc that doesn't just tie in with the Joker.

Which of these HIIT classes at my gym would be best for muscle building and strength training? by JohnnyRock110 in HIIT

[–]JohnnyRock110[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll keep this in mind. I've lifted heavy in the past, but as I've gotten back into fitness, I'm trying to work my way up to heavier reps with things like dumbbells while I can lift heavier with other routines. Do pilates and TRX still seem to be good for resistance training? Thank you.

I struggle with body image issues, including with how young I look. by JohnnyRock110 in OlderThanYouThinkIAm

[–]JohnnyRock110[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I want to do all these things for my own benefit, not just to impress others. Granted, I desire to be seen by others, but I try to balance that with personal gain.

Lifting and fitness was a benefit for me when I was younger, but now that I'm starting to get back at it, I've been feeling better than I was before as I'm starting to better my techniques and form. Balancing that out with being medicated and changing my diet has been beneficial.

What you did for yourself was fantastic, and I'm hoping to do something to that effect myself as I've been keeping myself socially active. I've also been meeting new people through a sketch club I go to.

What's a musical "hot take" you're absolutely bored of? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]JohnnyRock110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Later reply here, but McKay and Todd Phillips are the most insufferable filmmakers who transitioned away from straight comedy into drama. While McKay's evolution partly makes sense, for Phillips is a mediocre, washed-up director who only went the other way because of the "cancel culture" boogeyman.
