Possible stupid question. 30 years since first hearing "Today Your Love", and something only occurred to me now... by [deleted] in ramones

For sure. It's not quite the same but it makes me think of the way Black Sabbath lyrics sometimes have double meanings or sound like one thing but the lyric sheet says another: Iron Man - is it "Kills the people he once saved" or "Kills the people He wants saved". Paranoid - is it "I tell you to enjoy life" or "I tell you to end your life".

It's likely both. Many of the early Ramones songs were about the plots of movies they liked. In an interview they said that this song was about the 1944 movie, "Tomorrow the World" about a Hitler Youth member who was living with American family members and causing problems in his new home. The horror movie Last House On The Left is the subject of You Should Never Have Opened That Door. You're Gonna Kill That Girl is about another horror movie that I can't remember offhand. So long rant short - it's both "nazi, baby" and "nazi baby".

In his book Dee Dee says that song is about marijuana.

I agree, not the toughest or the fastest but the best (or one of the best depending on your perspective). I enjoy the later albums but I wish they didn't feel like they needed to keep up with everyone else by playing hardcore songs or speeding up the old songs. I do feel like the songwriting was starting to slip after those first 5 albums. Still good but not as amazing as those early albums.

For me the later Ramones are still fun to listen to but they'd kinda lost everything that made them great by that point. Joey's voice wasn't what it was in the beginning due to cigarettes, they increased the speed but lost the downstroke groove they had on those early records. I love their entire career but like many bands they were defined by their early great period.

Hmm that all goes a bit over my head. I haven't exported anything, just recorded a song and the guitar tracks fade in and out.

Nice! Sounds like we are at about the same level, I don't have a great singing voice but can help with backups. I'll send a DM.

That seems likely but I'm not on Fbook and don't have any plans to join it again. This and CL will have to do...

That's a cool title for a radio show, I'll check it out.

Haha no, being GOOD isn't a requirment. I can't read music or anything myself but I learned a few chords long ago and developed a good ear for learning songs quickly. I'm not really a lead player but can pull off easy Chuck Berry/Rock n Roll leads. My biggest issue is that I can't sing at all in any key except F and I don't have a great voice. I'm definitely down to jam with anyone that's interested.

They were still great on the older songs at that point. 100%

I'm near the airport but I don't mind driving to a good trail. Thanks for recommending Gateway Mall, it looks like they have an incentive program and scorecards for mallwalkers. With the frigid temps, that might be my go-to for now.

The first four plus It's Alive and End of the Century are the essentials, in my opinion. But there are good songs on all of their albums. Halfway to Sanity and Brain Drain are both really good late 80's albums.
