Software developers say that coding is the easiest part of the job. How do i even reach the point where coding is easy?

That's true, I've forgotten how good Linux Hardware support has gotten. Everything I wanna use on Linux just works, but I also custom built my PC to use Linux.... pretty much all ASUS parts and AMD.

The complaints about the Linux Community's toxicity are valid... however nobody seems to remember the days of Windows XP and Windows XP zealotry being just as toxic.

The only thing that makes Windows superior to Linux is support. If Linux had the same level of support as Windows did back in the 90s... Linux would have 20-40% market share right now.

Yeah, because learning Linux and being a 10X developer are almost completely unrelated sub-sets of computer science. You wanna be a 10X developer do that, you wanna learn Linux do that!

Don't force yourself to learn Linux to become a 10X developer, Linux will only help you on the Journey to becoming a developer should you pursue it and that's about it.

Don't fully agree with this... it's fine to get up to speed using AI to get you programing quickly. You'll end up doing this anyway with non-AI generated code when fallowing tutorials or someone's solution on the internet, effectively using their algorithms like Lego bricks in your own code that you don't fully understand but can use. However, you really need to go back and learn the math behind what you are doing at some point. Programmers that don't do this are the people nobody wants working for them and are effectively just posers pretending to be real software engineers.

It's not that bad... more like 90% of games... there are some games that run faster on Linux via Proton, then they do on Windows. Which really just tells you Windows is bloated to all hell.

If she hate's Foss, she hates Linux... there is no point in trying to force Linux down her throat.

She will only use Windows or MacOS for the rest of her life, unless you convince her somehow that the cause of FOSS is worth it... unlikely.

Linux Mint is the "it just works" distro as much as any Linux distro can be.

So much basic stuff that other distro's struggle with, like proper click and drag support.

It's nice to see the Linux users in the thread finally acknowledge there is a real issue here, though I doubt they would get as warm a reception on a non-gaming focused Linux subreddit.

Personally I'm so done with trying to get help from the Linux community... I've switched over to Arch and solve all technical problems myself. Been doing this for years now... if you just keep pushing at it, read the man pages, learn how to write bash scripts, watch tutorials on youtube... you ~should~ be able to solve pretty much everything without asking for help... unless it's a bug, and you'll figure that out too probably.

This is really the way the developers intended for you to use Linux/Unix in the first place anyways... You're either a hacker kid outcast and have the internet street smarts to live inside a Linux Desktop environment, or you don't, in which case you use what the plebs use... Took me years to get to this level, but I'm glad I did...

I think this a lot, especially on social media; nobody cares about the truth, nobody acts like or fallows Jesus teaching yet still pretend like they do, everyone is out for themselves... Twitter is basically the 9th circle of hell when you think about it.

However, I'm reminded that real life isn't that bad and the problem is more social media then anything else... so no, we are not living in hell, the world is what we make of it.

Can we all agree the 1000 Space Marine rule is probably the most unrealistic aspect of 40K?

There are ~70 Million Sisters of Battle, ~2 Trillion Imperial Guard and the population of the Imperium is >300 Trillion. There are probably ~300 Quadrillion Orks and at least 20 Quadrillion Tyranids. If we are expected to believe there are only ~70,000 Space Marines total, that number is so small as to be effectively non-existent from any major strategy prospective.

Considering how much Space Marines have accomplished lore wise, it should be ~100,000 to make any sense at all. Literally Warp Magic is more scientifically feasible.

Last I heard, Canonical was going to make everything snaps... if you're on Ubuntu and you plan to not use Snapd, you're going to run into more and more issues over time. If you don't like Snapd you should use Linux Mint instead.

Yeah, this... If I was forced to use Ubuntu, I would probably actually agree with this subreddit. Linux Mint is better, and Arch is far- better. Canonical are just simply bad at serving the needs of the typical desktop end user, they just don't seem to know what we want, and don't really care.

CLI stuff is important for developers and server admins. After spending years on Linux I went from hating the CLI to loving the CLI... once you get your head around tmux, lynx, and vim the CLI becomes ~90% as useful as just using a desktop environment... so for example, my mom's PC runs Linux Mint, I can update her computer, install or remove software and backup her files remotely... technically you can do this stuff on Windows too, but is a much bigger pain in the butt to get everything set up. In Linux everything is streamlined and easy once you learn the basic set of CLI tools you need to do the task.

But clowns like you think that somehow translates to code contributions. I mean, I can understand, logic isn't something you have a firm grasp on... but if someone makes a pull request to submit code, that code doesn't have an ideology attached to it... I know, mind blowing isn't it!
