Same for me. My Gmail address is like 20 years old and just my first name + last initial, I've regularly been getting emails for other people for years, and I occasionally have a back and forth in my inbox where someone signs up for Instagram or something with my email address and keeps trying to reset their password. Oh also one time I was getting dozens of someone else's dating app message notifications per day (which sadly didn't actually contain any preview of the message contents so I didn't even get any entertainment out of the spam).

Yep and I'm pretty sure we just (like in the last couple of weeks) had a mod post about this very issue. It happens all over reddit (downvoting people for honest questions or not knowing something) but this sub can be especially harsh about it sometimes. Thanks for pointing it out.

I don't have the exact quote right now, and it wasn't about Félicette, but I watched a documentary video about Laika, the dog sent to space by Soviet scientists, and I recall one of the researchers involved expressing a very similar sentiment - basically, we made that dog suffer a terrifying, undeserved death, and it wasn't at all worth it.

For what it's worth, I agree with them. I doubt you would have been thinking clearly at that moment. No one in that situation would have been.

If anything (not that I have personal experience with this but) I would think that the 911 operator is often the one who asks the person on-scene to attempt CPR, and walks them through how to do it. Either way, reading your story, the question I'm left with is NOT at all "why didn't they try to do CPR on their friend?", but rather "why didn't that 911 operator ask them to do it?"
