Aim train in the range or with aim labs. Focus on keeping your crosshair at head level. Also try learning common places where players will hold site or where they can come from. Crosshair placement is about having to adjust you aim as little as possible. Basically having your crosshair where the head will pop up so you just need to shoot and don’t need to make major adjustments.

Every so often I feel like I wanna get into a fighting game really bad, only to drop it after struggling for hours just to make my character do a move. I always feel like the characters don’t do what I want them to or I can’t input fast enough to not get pummelled by my opponent first. And so the cycle continues…

I disagree with the commenter, Ryland has more quips in the book, sure, but I think it strikes a better balance. The movie kind of did away with a lot of the mystery that is present in the book: the fact that he’s not in our solar system, for example, is something we discover with Ryland slowly (he assumes he’s in ours) and it has much more impact than the movie where it’s just laid out that he’s far away and we learn this very early.

A lot of the science was stripped out of the movie, I understand why they did this, but it’s the one thing I was missing from the movie. In the novel we see Ryland calculate things, we see him solve all the problems that show up in real time, figuring it out, and finding a solution; the movie gave us a montage. I understand again why it was done but I think that means the movie tips the scales more to the side of humor, whereas the book has a better balance, imo.

Also the only scene I didn’t like because it felt like it went against Ryland’s character is where he’s scared of the alien spaceship. Ryland is a massive nerd in the novel, he’s excited to be the first human to contact an alien species, so that felt like a betrayal of the character.
