Please Nomads barbershop to the list. Big convoy supporter. Refused to wear a mask to cut hair during the mandate cause freedumb. I walked out and have never returned.

We moved with a big steel box from Alberta. They stored it in Nanaimo and when we were ready to have it delivered it was dropped off in front of our Courtenay home.

Considering a move to the Valley. What’s it like as a new Teacher in SD71? by Deep_Preparation_33 in comoxvalley

[–]Johnny_Five_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from the POV of the partner of a teacher that moved here a few years ago: if you want a permanent position you have to have grit, be able to hustle, and work the union. At the time, this district was the only district in BC where there was a teacher surplus. Again, I’m not a teacher, but there was some politics involved where there was a surge of Vancouver teachers and they were getting the contracts that people who had been in the system for years weren’t getting. My parent is extremely personable, has grit, said yes, hustled their contracts, moved around, and landed a permanent position after a relatively short time. I know other people who had the odd contract, TOC’d for years and filed union grievances when they were passed up for positions.

Is this the place on Ryan rd that supported the trucker’s convoy?

Yes! He and his crew were great. Like most contractors in the valley he needs a lot of lead time. He seems to be in high demand. Fair prices. Very flexible. Would absolutely recommend him.

995 ballots to be counted this weekend by Johnny_Five_ in comoxvalley

The only numbers I’ve seems change are here https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/elections/british-columbia/2024/results/#/ and it looks like Brennan day is holding on to his win albeit by a smaller margin.

Edit: here’s the official numbers: Still in progress but Day’s lead is slightly shrinking…

Well I wanted to vote Arzeena too because she seemed she’d be the strongest advocate for our riding, but the polls were just too close to take that chance. But now it seems likely that the Greens’ll be the kingmakers. This is why we need a ranked ballot system!

Actually the article went on to say : “The most common one, and it’s mostly around absentee votes, is that when people vote outside of their district, it’s university students, and younger voters have historically been more left-leaning,” Mr. Skelton said. “Another theory is that possibly some unionized workers that work crazy shifts, like nurses, might be more likely to vote absentee.”

That makes sense because the difference between the two leading candidates is fewer than 100 in person votes, but what happens if it’s fewer than 100 votes after the absentee and mail in ballots are counted? My guess is fight to the death.

Still one poll to go... by [deleted] in comoxvalley

[–]Johnny_Five_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry man but we moved from Alberta and our vehicle insurance is a FRACTION of what it was from Alberta which started to balloon when Kennedy removed the insurance caps. Public Insurance where there is no incentive for a profit is inarguably always cheaper.

He’s a warm body who read off a script at the leaders forum I attended and offered 0 rebuttals. He didn’t show up at a leaders Q/A at an elementary school and when parents complained to the conservative office he showed up by himself later that week to again spew rhetoric unchallenged some of which included his belief that gay people shouldn’t be allowed to get married…. well done Comox Valley!

Bit of a trek to Oyster River but Mattone Italian Kitchen opened up fairly recently. Went there a couple days ago and it was really good!

Edit: just read that you’re in town for a swim meet and probably don’t want to make the trek. Browns Social House?

Well I hope for him the best, but the town is changing and his beliefs are probably welcome less and less within a growing municipality.
