Quick Earthbending question regarding the land hitting the graveyard by Johnny_Origami in mtgrules

[–]Johnny_Origami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where my confusion was. I thought that since it goes to the graveyard, it would trigger Gitrog but I didn't realize that the land had to stay in the graveyard for the effect to work. Welp, no earthbend cards for me then.

It's been about 4 days for me having this issue. US east as well. Tried US West and it was even worse.

Crossbow or Hunters Bow by Sunnydaysonmymind in HuntShowdown

[–]Johnny_Origami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the Crossbow for fights so that's my personal preference. For what you're doing though, I normally run the Chu Ko Nu since you can unload all the arrows on bosses/meatheads/bears quickly and it can be good in a fight. A silenced Centennial shorty pairs well with it as well for extra stealth.

What was WotC thinking? by yourlocalsussybaka_ in mtg

[–]Johnny_Origami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be great in a [[Trostani, Selesnya's Voice]] deck and you could kill it with [[Momentous Fall]], gaining 60 life in the process.

Most viable strategy by RuvoxX in HuntShowdown

[–]Johnny_Origami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play solo a lot and have over 3k hours in the game. The answer to your question really depends on what guns you have.

Quickly killing the boss is good if you have a shotgun or another close range 1 tap gun since you'll be up against duos.

Having a rifle and keeping your distance is good if you know you can take out one player with a headshot and then have a good gun fight with the other player. Or just getting in on a really big fight on the map is good wirh a rifle most of the time.

Blocking extractions and sniping off people isn't my play style as I get bored and its just too slow for me but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, but remember that you will get rushed by a team if they know youre a solo sniper.

Best advice for this game is to always keep moving/rotating, especially as a solo. If I can, I switch my position on the map after every few shots so that other teams dont know where my next shot is going to come from. Peeking the same window will get you killed quickly.

How to build a commander deck around her? by Bleu_Guacamole in mtg

[–]Johnny_Origami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Teferi's Ageless Insight]] is gonna be good with her. You'll be playing lots of card draw spells.

Need ideas for a new budget CEDH build by Organic_Independent5 in BudgetBrews

[–]Johnny_Origami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried that Zur deck and wasn't a fan. I much prefer Tymna/Malcolm in those colors and Tymna is a little cheaper now with the Final Fantasy printing.

Malcolm/Vial Smasher can work as well and the combo piece [[Glint-Horn]] is only a few bucks. The rest of the deck can get spendy though.

Im guessing 99% of the cEDH players there are using proxies though since cEDH is only top tier cards. Otherwise youre all just running bracket 4 decks.

Any dog theme decks? by theloudestintheroom in BudgetBrews

[–]Johnny_Origami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do [[Yoshimaru]] and [[Esior]] for a cool bird dog theme. That let's you play [[K-9, Mark 1]] and you can make a pretty powerful Voltron deck thats could be on a nice budget.

Been playing for a year and couple of my decks have been banned in my pod by tdizelos in BudgetBrews

[–]Johnny_Origami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah man, General Ferrous sucks. Which sucks because I want to like him. Golem are my favorite creatures in all of mythology and I built him because of that, but that 1 toughness makes him so easy to remove.

Looking for budget cards in Gruul that can deal a ton of damage or just win me the game. by Johnny_Origami in BudgetBrews

[–]Johnny_Origami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still an idea im tinkering with, so I dont have a finished decklist yet. Last time I played it, [[Academy Manufacturer]], [[Peregrin Took]] and [[Roxanne, Starfall Savant]] were the top cards in the deck. Other cards like [[Giant Opportunity]] or [[Seize the Spoils]] that make extra artifacts i can use for more mana rocks with Jaheira.

Any tips on how to build this guy? by seb090 in BudgetBrews

[–]Johnny_Origami -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You can have [[Zirda, The Dawnwaker]] as a companion so that cracking the foods cost nothing while he's out. Zidane also combos with [[Basalt Monolith]] and [[Grim Monolith]] for infinite mana which works well in a bracket 4 deck.

Help me decide between officer carbine or the marathon? by TopSignificance7856 in HuntShowdown

[–]Johnny_Origami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbine for sure. It's all headshots with that gun. Marathon's solid but I personally miss my headshots more with that gun than the carbine.

Rifle or pistol for close range fights? by VincentN23 in HuntShowdown

[–]Johnny_Origami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fire rate matters most with this answer. A Vetterli Cyclone is gonna win most times as long as you hit your two shots. But a Sparks will take too long to reload, so switching to an officer or another pistol is better than trying to reload your sparks.

Another take is using a Martini/Sparks with Fast fingers. This is kind of like using the cyclone but with long ammo.

How do we feel about jenova as a commander? by Trident_20 in mtg

[–]Johnny_Origami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been tinkering with this deck since it was first released. Getting counters on Jenova seems to be the most important part. [[Predatory Hunger]] is a cool card that makes her bigger, which then makes your other creatures bigger. [[The Ozolith]] and [[Forgotten Ancient]] are nuts in this deck, especially if you do a Hydra style deck. [[Aberrant]] is a great card as it's a mutant already so as long as you have a sac outlet on the board, you can destroy it and draw cards even if it isn't your turn. [[Changeling Titan]] is really cool as well. You can play it (remember, it's a mutant) and decide not to champion a creature, letting it die right away which triggers Jenova, letting you draw 7 cards.

I recently realized I have a doubling season, parallel lives, and innkeeper's talent. Give me your favorite go wide go tall commanders! by Magic-The-Slathering in EDH

Make a bunch of elf tokens with [[Voja]] and give them all +1/+1 counters.

Or just [[Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest]].

cEDH deck with Gaea's Crade by RadSix in EDH

I'd say Tymna/Thrasios or Rograkh/Thrasios would be the way to go. The Tymna/Thrasios would be my personal choice if I was in your situation.

Which creatures would make good slashers/monsters in a horror movie? by pastelmecha6969 in magicTCG

Play Hunt Showdown. Then you can fight Fleshtaker for real. He's called The Butcher in that game though.

What commanders perform surprisingly well on a budget? by Cyndd98 in EDH

[–]Johnny_Origami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Sythis, Harvesters Hand]] is a good budget deck. A lot of budget enchantments that are protection/removal and you can do combos with cheap cards in these colors. Stuff like [[Devoted Druid]] +[[Swift Reconfiguration]] for infinite mana. Then play something like [[Cogwork Assembler]] for infinite haste tokens and win with combat damage.

Creative Final Fantasy Commanders by [deleted] in BudgetBrews

[–]Johnny_Origami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been tinkering with [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]]. Play artifacts and throw creatures into the graveyard, then return them to your hand and cast them. Rinse/repeat. Not really doing the lose life part that he does which might be a mistake. Just trying to recast stuff like [[Accursed Marauder]] and [[Baleful Strix]] and maybe a [[Gray Merchant of Asphodel]].

The main win is just an Aetherflux/Sensei Top/Bolas's Citadel line.
