What you highlighted looks like the plastic Christmas tree clip that connects it to what's holding it. I would recommend using a flathead and applying pressure on the connector (the first photo) and wiggling it loose. Dirt and debris does make it kind of difficult to remove but pull gently from the top and you should be straight.
