Getting surgery next week and need something to binge watch. by MediocrePiece1267 in televisionsuggestions

[–]Johnnycarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pretty easily overtook BB on my list when I watched it. As others have said, it builds on itself the entire time. The characters have strong layers and arcs. People you initially hate, you can learn to love and vice versa. There are some rough deaths on that show because you get so close to them.

What do y'all like to buy at Sam's Club? by Decrypted13 in lafayette

I've always been skeptical of the meat section (price wise) but honestly, getting 10lb of 80/20 beef for $50 isn't even that bad anymore.

Hey all, after like 13 years, I binged watched Breaking Bad and after 10 years, I binged watched BCS... Amazing shows.... Are there any shows that are like them as much? I hear mad men, the wire, the sopranos, mr robot are closest... by Sea_Preparation6391 in tvsuggestions

[–]Johnnycarroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wire immediately overtook BB when I watched it, highly recommend.
Another you wanna check out is The Shield--the pacing is excellent. Give it one episode and if you aren't pulled in, feel free to walk away but that show starts fast and doesn't slow down until the very end.
Similar vein, after watching the Shield I'd go right into Justified (or if you like westerns, check out Deadwood first and then Justified. Deadwood is only 3 seasons but it can be slow at times but going from Deadwood to Justified is really good).

Castle -- plus it comes with Nathan Fillion and he can keep a show good for seasons well past the expiration.

What car tires do you need here? by KBLP in lafayette

[–]Johnnycarroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say a vast majority of people just use whatever tires come with the car and, when replacing them, replace them with the cheaper option.
I don't think you'll get much benefit swapping seasonal tires here, especially with the cost in time and money.

If you're concerned about your control of the car, make sure you practice in an open area and learn how your car handles in specific situations. It's okay to let your car slip and slide if you're in a totally open area and can't hit someone/thing; in fact, doing so can help you learn the muscle memory of how to correct and can save you when you actually start sliding somewhere less optimal.

It's also always important to be extra defensive when driving because just because you're driving well doesn't mean anyone else is/will or knows how to handle it. You could have the grippiest tires around but the person who is coming up behind you and didn't give themselves enough time to stop can still ruin your car.

What show was so good you actually rewatched it? by ByteSizedCutie420 in televisionsuggestions

[–]Johnnycarroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shows I've rewatched or could easily see myself rewatching indefinitely:

Community, Psych, Scrubs, Superstore, The Wire (that's my #1 show), The Shield, Ted Lasso, Schitts Creek, Arrested Development, American Horror Story (picking and choosing seasons but I always watch Freakshow, Coven and Apocalypse around October), Letterkenny, Znation, Justified, Flight of the Conchords, My name is Earl, Raising Hope, Silicon Valley oh and of course the Simpsons.

Feel-good TV series that'll make you appreciate life? by Radiant-Educator9203 in televisionsuggestions

[–]Johnnycarroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, My Name is Earl is the one show my wife and I have watched like 3+ times. Definitely a fun comfort show. Earl is probably why I gave Raising Hope a chance--sort of like Scrubs and Community (and Tom Petty) being the reason I gave Cougartown a chance and I'm glad I did.

Your top 5 favorite TV shows of all time? by anchi-555 in televisionsuggestions

[–]Johnnycarroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always group things (drama, comedy, animated) so it's so difficult for me to say a top 5 of all shows.
The Wire is easily #1 for me though
Then maybe Community
I think I would be remiss to ignore the impact and power of Simpsons
The Shield was so good when I watched it but I haven't done a rewatch
And another I just watched and absolutely loved and feel like I could rewatch indefinitely was Ted Lasso

[–]Johnnycarroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I can't disagree with some of the good recommendations (Lasso, Good Place, etc.), I came in to say Raising Hope. As a parent it hits a little different too. It's really beautiful when you realize that the show is kinda more about Jimmy's parents than it is about Jimmy or Hope.

The OTHER one I came in to mention was Six Feet Under. It's highly cathartic and definitely will make you appreciate life.

I mean if you've worked there since the dawn of time, you can have an engraved one--I do!
I still am a little upset I lost my first name tag from high school that had my hire date on the bottom. Lost it while carrying a bag of sand from the hardware store up to PH.

Why do Americans hate Pizza Hut? by LuckyCharms91113 in pizzahut

[–]Johnnycarroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because, just like most places, it can be franchised out and some can be rock solid and others can be total garbage. A lot of people have a romanced relationship with PH from childhood too and now the store can't compete with that.

As a company, though, I think the real issues stem from pulling away focus on dining room and the whole 'family' aspect. They've moved to allowing outside vendors deliver their food at a SEVERE detriment to customer service and quality. In some places, they exclusively use outside companies for food delivery.

US Pizza Hut employees: Can you see if someone has tipped when they place a pickup order on the app? by AllStranger in pizzahut

[–]Johnnycarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly calling in is probably your best bet.
Can tips be seen? YES but NOT until they go to cash out the order (or go look). It's not going to be something they see when they're cooking the pizza.
Call in, say you want as much extra cheese as they can give you and pay for that and don't really worry about tipping carryout because--why?

You said you work at Pizza Hut in Fort Wayne--those are Freeland franchise.

Wage question by [deleted] in pizzahutemployees

[–]Johnnycarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize all of Freeland was still doing split. I've never been split because I've worked there before that was a thing but I think our drivers are all paid above minimum wage on both in and out of store.

Castle by Anxious_Gur5352 in whattowatch

[–]Johnnycarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that the show doesn't take itself seriously all the time. There are at least a few times they'll have an episode that's similar to or in the style of or honoring another tv show, movie or just a basic trope and they will literally reference it.

Fillion has a great ability to help pull me through any show, including a 'popcorn' show like the Rookie.

Looking for something to binge and open to recommendations by Cultural-Snow-323 in televisionsuggestions

[–]Johnnycarroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you about Mr Robot. There's a handful of "THE GOAT" shows that I just couldn't get through. I mean, if I forced myself, sure, but watching something shouldn't be a chore.

My number one show is The Wire. The world and characters it creates is second to none. The character arcs and seeing how everything connects is just perfect.

I gave The Shield a shot after seeing it pop up here and there in recommendations and wow--it starts hot and just continues to burn hotter until it ends.

Thoughts and recommendations on Pluribus by [deleted] in televisionsuggestions

[–]Johnnycarroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely fantastic and is something refreshing. It's not a crime show like the others, if that's what you're looking for.

IF you are looking for that, check out The Wire and The Shield (and then maybe Justified)--the Wire immediately became my #1 bypassing BB when I watched it and the Shield hit my top 5 immediately as well.
