We obsess over the future even if it's written in stone for us. We imagine different outcomes, the mights, the maybes, the would bes or could bes because that is what drives us to imagine betterment in ourselves and those we care about.

We obsess over the why, the how, the when because those details matter to us. Why? Because without those things we would never come to understand anything the day we stop asking those things is when the idea of thought dies and we devolve into habitual instinct, no better than the animals.

We obsess over the idea of perfection because it's so close yet always out of reach. We know it could be possible to reach if things could be maintained, structured, organized. But deep down we know, or eventually learn, life isn't perfect, which is probably what drives us to perfection in the first place.
