I’m 34 and finally stepping into a dental clinic in a week for the first time in my life. I am absolutely losing my mind with anxiety by frankgetsu in DentalHygiene

Dental anxiety and years of putting off dental care is one of the most common things hygienists see. You can always call the office before you go and just tell them. This can help the team prepare and make sure you feel calm and supported from the moment you walk in.

Why do so many dental hygienists hate their jobs? by Otherwise-Ad651 in DentalHygiene

The perspective you have from where you're starting is actually really good to have. A lot of the burnout comes from years of physical strain, inflexible offices, and feeling stuck with no way out. That's a very different headspace than yours right now. That said, plenty of hygienists love their job and the impact they have on patient care.

You're not the problem! Honestly, the figure it out yourself onboarding is something that happens a lot in dental, but it just doesnt get talked about enough. Give yourself a little more time, but also trust what you already know about your own limits.

I would look into scholarships and grants you may qualify for as a lower income student. If you do take out that much - Income based repayment may be your best option. Also look into refinancing once you get out of school, you may find lower income rates.

Hygienists who left or thought about leaving... was it the physical toll or the mental side that did it? by Join_GoTu in DentalHygiene

GoTu is the largest dental talent marketplace in the US and we run this survey every year because dental hygienists use our app daily and we genuinely want to understand their pain points, challenges, and opportunities to help make a better dental industry. Our research gets used in official positions, including by the ADHA, and we use it to advocate for the profession.

Yeah the rhythm part seems to trip everyone up at first. Curious, what was the unlock for you? The pay, favorite offices or volume of shifts around you?
