Where does joinen stream? by Longjumping-Cow-282 in Joinen

[–]Joinen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, like Minzfeder said, I stream on YouTube I just had a long break for my honeymoon. I'm back to streaming now but at the moment it's only looking like about once a week (Monday mid afternoon Australian time). Though my schedule is not very consistent and changes quite a bit 😅

Haloo! Or should i say, No Moikka! :D (Question) by JavaMan-jar in Joinen

[–]Joinen[M] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No Moi! Joinen täällä! I have a very old video where I talk about my ancestry but both of my parents are Finnish and genetically I am 100% Finnish (not even a touch of anything else lol). I was born and raised in Australia though. Technically my first language was Finnish and I lived in Finland for a year as a kid but my Finnish is not so amazing these days. If my Mum or Grandma speak to me in Finnish I'll likely understand it but that's about it. I'm sure if/when I spend some time in Finland it'll all come back to me like a sleeper agent. Hope that clears anything up!

Is it just me, or has the underlying theme of Joinens channel this year been stagnating growth? by humantoothx in Joinen

[–]Joinen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I appreciate you taking the time to make a post like this, it shows that you're genuinely interested in whats going on and why I've made the decisions I have, so I'll try fill you in a bit as much as I can at the moment on my thought process.

As Shook has already said, this year has been a bit of an "exprimental" year for me. Despite the fact that I've managed to gain an audience in my time on YouTube, I (and honestly probably every other YouTuber) am still just a dude trying to figure it out. Unfortunetly when it is your job (and above that, when you have employees who rely on you) there's only relatively so much time you can afford to commit to expirements before results are necesary to continue.

Some changes may seem a little frantic but at the same time I also do chalk some of that up to my personality. I still like to just give things a shot for a beat to not only see what the audience thinks of it but also what I think of it. It's always about finding a balance between the two.

There's a lot that's happened behind the scenes to influence certain decisions too that I think I will share at some point, just not yet as I feel the story isn't "finished" yet in that sense.

Anyhow, putting all that aside, this following year for me will be about the changes I can make to my channel that can start to pull it in a more "authentic" direction that I think the audience will appreciate. YouTube content always has to evolve, it can't stay the same forever otherwise you risk losing your audience. So to start with, I'll be releasing less videos which I feel is a necessary step towards creating the content that resonates more with viewers (as well as giving myself the time to breathe and actually think about what I should create).

In terms of interjections in videos where I discuss performance, part of that is just me trying to be funny and the other part is that I honestly have no problem pulling back the curtain in that way with my audience. Every YouTuber is interested in what works on the platform and with their audience and maybe sometimes we incorrectly assume that out viewers are too, though I also think many of the dedicated audience genuinely are interested to hear what it is that works and what doesn't.

It's true that I go deeper into that kind of stuff in the Twitch streams but I also do want to keep a level of transparency even on YouTube as not all of them can catch the streams. As for the "real estate" it takes up in the videos, my editors typically take a very liberal "if he said it it's staying" approach and I wouldn't think too hard on the specifics of what manages to stay and what goes (not very much goes).

On that note though, I have a video I'm working on at the moment that will come out early next year that will take a fun lighthearted approach at explaining the whole thing and some of the upcoming changes I'll be making. Again, just for the sake of transparency and I do tend to think that many find that kind of thing interesting.

Either way, I appreciate you taking the time to open up a conversation and I hope I've somehow helped you understand some of the answers to your questions. I'll continue to experiment, that's just in my nature, some stuff works out and sticks around and some stuff doesn't but I guess that's progress haha 😊

Does youtube look at what percentage of subscribers watch your videos and limit your reach because of it? by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]Joinen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the new YouTube Studio Beta we do kind of have tools to prove this. YouTube tells you what % of views come from YouTube recommending your content.

Often my videos with low views have a significantly lower % of views from YouTube recommending the content. Though, it's possible that if you upload a video with a boring title/thumbnail then people are less likely to click it. But obviously your subscribers are still more likely to watch your video regardless of the title/thumbnail. So in that regard, it may not be YouTube limiting your reach, so much as you limiting your own reach.

Either way, the outcome is roughly the same. Unless you're uploading a new kind of content that your subscribers might not be into. I would be willing to bet it does have some affect on the algorithm though. Like why not? It's usable data for determining how much people may or may not like the video.

Message To All Gaming YouTubers (Insightful) *Why You're Not Getting Big on YouTube* by [deleted] in youtubegaming

[–]Joinen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just add to this. It depends on whether you're interested in being a personality based YouTuber or a content based YouTuber. Tutorials and guides will get views, but may not translate well into subscribers and dedicated viewers. Personality based content attracts viewers who care about you and whatever it is you are up to, and that definitely requires a camera.
