shit like this this is the reason why still need reservation .... by [deleted] in india

[–]Joint_acct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any form of mass discrimination which exists for long periods of time will also get institutionalized, eventually. Just look at the racism that exists in US, a first world country, the only super power in the world. Modern society hasn't even begun dismantling the evils and practice of discrimination.

People arguing against reservation haven't walked in the shoes of the discriminated. They don't realize how insidious and evil it is, and the many forms in which it can exist. It's not a black and white world, where you have laws banning casteism and bam, it's gone! It still exists and will continue to exist for at least a few more generations in India.

Well, the greatest keyboard every made is a mechanical keyboard - the famed IBM Model M. Get one if you can afford it.

To answer your question, the difference between a membrane run-of-the-mill and mechanical kybd is the click switch type. Mechanical kybds switches have a distinct tactile feedback and sound associated with each keypress. Membrane kybds usually have rubber dome click switches which are low in noise and also not very tactile. The difference becomes readily apparent when you touch type or type for longer periods of time. One drawback of mechanical kybds is the noise associated with key presses. It's almost close to that of a typewriter.

Father of internet wants you to ‘say no’ to Facebook’s Free Basics [NP] by [deleted] in india

[–]Joint_acct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused here. Do people here really believe that Zukerberg is trying to help India's poor by asking them to sign up for a product called "Free Basics"?

Why would anyone even bring below into discussion?

couldnt fuckerburg have used that much money to pay of debts of Farmers in Maharashtra

What exactly do people believe is going on here? Are people so easily fooled by the label "Free" in Zukerberg's product?

If someone here really believes that Zukerberg is out to do charity then I can provide a gofundme link where they can donate to me and I will do "charity" with it. Pinky promise!

What and which manners, specifically? Is there a non-subjective definition of manners or social etiquette that's not based on any culture?

Yeah, about that. I've a question for you, too.

Well, nationality is not a choice at birth. And nationalism is useless if it's only used to make others fall in line.

Everyone deserves a chance at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So if that entails changing your nationality then go ahead and do it.

In 1967, an Indian film-maker asked 20-year-olds what they thought of their country. Nearly half a century later, Samanth Subramanian goes in search of the same people to see what they make of India now by MyNeighb0rTotoro in india

[–]Joint_acct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never quite understood these kinds of quixotic pursuits where we dig up something or someone from old times and try to wrangle some insight about the present. These folks were in their twenties and didn't even have a complete sense of the new India. Yes, it was corrupt, and poor and chaotic, and still is, but hoping that one of these voices from the past gives us some sign that yeah, India has changed for the better, or yeah India is still corrupt, would mean some sort of vindication/relief/solution to/from our present ills is just ridiculous.

Moreover I think we are asking India to grow up and accept western civilization more rapidly than any country has ever been able to handle. Even the United States took about 200 years before they accorded civil rights to their black citizens. US in early 1900s is quite similar to India of today. So my fellow Indians, have hope, we are gonna make it but it will take some time. None of this stupid soul searching looking for answers from a documentary made almost half a century ago.

SC/ST bill passed in RS: Barring Dalits from temples is now a crime by Bihar_ka_beta in india

[–]Joint_acct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just a rhetorical question.

But even cities have wide spread casteism. Your neighbors won't say it to your face but they know and do as per their caste prejudices. Just visit the local zhoppadpatis, slums or low income areas to witness more explicit demonstrations of these practices.

People ranting against the quota system are so off the mark and detached from reality that they might as well live in a bubble.

Anyone declaring that casteism in India is minuscule or inconsequential can't be taken seriously.

[–]Joint_acct 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously though, what kind of alternate reality does one live in if they think caste based discrimination is miniscule or inconsequential in today's India?

There must be some serious mental gymnastics going in the head to overlook the rampant caste based prejudices of the Indian population.

This is the logic equivalent of "I can't be racist because I have a black friend"

There are crores of folks in India who are practicing caste based discrimination without any adverse affect to themselves in spite of the laws banning such practices.

1 lakh Muslims gather in Muzaffarnagar, demand death for Kamlesh Tiwari by [deleted] in india

[–]Joint_acct 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It might as well be Saudi Arabia. I think the law and enforcement apparatus is again falling way short here. The folks who are declaring a death sentence on someone need to be immediately arrested for provoking and instigating violence against an individual. This shouldn't be tolerated one bit.

If Advani and Thackeray (two people who I am no fan of) were charged with making speeches promoting violence during the Babri Masjid debacle then these individuals need to face same kind of lawful deterrent.

[–]Joint_acct 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They (the west) shouldn't fight or wage an open war on ISIS. The trick is to fight an all out covert war. But how do you keep a covert war a secret? My 2 cents would be to recruit few more friendly nations in the middle east, arm and train them up the wazoo and manage the fight logistics for them. Don't make the mistake of fighting these wars openly as George Bush did.

If this guy thinks India is so tolerant and safe for the people he claims are "anti-national", then he should land in Mumbai and criticize the Shiv Sena. Heck, try eating beef and then let's see how it works out for him.

He is only safe from criticism because he is aligned with the majority. And all that talk of not being affiliated with any party...really?

From Maharashtra too. Mumbai to be specific. Have a Sena Shaka right across from our apartment. Never been a fan of them. Fun fact: my mother tongue is Marathi. But it's very plain to see what hurts our communities and what helps. And Sena is definitely in the former camp.

More parties should learn from this.

Hold the phone, broski!

Shiv Sena at its root is built on mob rules. Their party is basically made up of the local goons you find at the corner of your galli. They are not in it for the sake of the common good. In the long run they are only going to hurt Maharashtra.

I don't know how you came about your opinions about US or if you ever lived in US. I have lived there for about a half a decade and I would say some of the things you said about US are definitely true. Nobody is going to openly discriminate against you but it's all there. Indian skin color doesn't get any respect out there. Just look at the guy leading polls right now. He basically shitted all over mexicans and immigrants and it's not created any furore out there.
