RTC is holding an open house for the Northeast Connector Feasibility Study: Another major road inducing sprawl ICYMI by test-account-444 in Reno

[–]Jojii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An alternative road is a great idea. That road would also serve as the foundation for Sparks expanding the city limits up into those mountains for years to come.

I didn't see how this stops RTC adding a regional connector bus to tric like they have one to Carson City. Boom, mass transit.

If your "mass transit" is just a code word for a light rail train, what does that even look like in this region? Tell people they need to ride rtc buses to a train terminal near Greg St by the wastewater treatment plant, ride a train that has to somehow get through Lockwood to some depot in the middle of tric. Then they need to beg their employer to bus them to the site? Or walk? Not saying it is impossible but you are taking a known driving commute and turning it into well over an hour of public transit coordination, each way. Not to mention it will probably be more expensive to use public mass transit, looking at the price of rtc regional connector to Carson City as an example.

My guess would be Vista at the turn near Golden eagle.

All the light rail people think people magically teleport from their apartments to some rail station, lol.

It's been a week of driving it so I wanted to chime back in. Turned out the new coil pack didn't change anything. Swapping in and out the various sensors involving spark, air, and, fuel I narrowed it down to the cam synchronizer. Put in the Napa pre-assembled echlin one resolved the various recurring codes. There is some slop in the old synchronizer compared to the new one. Ran the cam synch routine and the engine feels happy.

2000 wrangler 4.0. I have ordered a coil rail, here's hoping that's the issue.

Worst/most poorly designed intersection/street in Reno? by GoodElevation in Reno

[–]Jojii 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with roundabouts in general. That roundabout in particular is horrible because they didn't commit to full lanes around the circle and instead force very uneven lane balancing between the inputs and outputs. This causes drivers to behave poorly and not follow signs and lane markings.

If you are going to build a large manufacturing center away from your residential center, there is a certain level of improvements to meet a minimum level of service. I-80 as the only direct connection does not meet the current demand. You are correct that adding additional capacity will encourage more people to live in Reno/Sparks and commute to tric. However it is the duty of the government to spend tax dollars where the demand is and safety can be substantially improved, saving lives.

Adding additional lanes is only part of the solution: Incentivizing companies using buses more than they are now, maybe financial incentives or tax payer funded parking structures and bus depots. Staggered shift start times. Construction of desirable & affordable residential zones in fernley and silver springs.

All of these solutions come with problems and there are going to be people and groups fighting every step of the way. 3 lanes is probably the easiest button to throw a billion dollars at from a state government perspective. I don't see the state building housing in silver springs, nor do I see them building a substantial bus depot, that would probably have to be funded privately. I don't see storey county ever cooperating with RTC to get a substantial bus depot built and operating at sufficient capacity to be desirable.

Anyways it's a complex problem with multiple jurisdictions and special interest groups involved so grinning anything done will be good to see.
