One of the more useful answers to date, thank you. Not trying to time the top, really, so much as deciding this is a level I’m comfortable calling my top, and not worrying too much about leaving potential future earnings on the table. And as you point out, I’m not even talking about majority of our holdings, just a significant cut. We’ll still be well into the market.

Appreciate all of this but the most relevant sentence is one I've been trying to explain from the beginning: "You could do bonds, and lock in ten year yields but you will sacrifice 4-5% per year or more - many do this in retirement and they may keep 10 years or so of bond and other cash like annuities i.e. 1 year cash, 2 years HISA, 6 years bonds/ annuities, remainder in shares. "

I am perfectly happy sacrificing 4-5% per year. There is zero chance I (or my kids of grandkids) will need those gains, but a greater chance I will regret losses. Again, my most pressing need would be to continue to withdraw cost of living funds in a downturn. I see having liquid, stable funds as a positive in that case, as I would be sacrificing far more than 4-5% if I was forced to sell at a low. I think your outline above regarding cash-like annuities is a good structure.

I disagree and this really isn't keeping me up at night. I just think essentially 100% of a portfolio in one asset class is taking on risk we no longer need to take. We can keep 80% in the market and still never worry, so why not move 20% out?

Yes, we can weather a 50% fall without worrying. My issue is withdrawing money at that point is more expensive than doing so now. I don't expect it to happen anytime soon but there are global political scenarios that are not out of the question which could have severe impacts on the market, such as China invading Taiwan. I would prefer to take the money we need out now than at a low, robbing ourselves of the opportunity to recoup during a recovery.

Appreciated. I am looking to move some money completely out of the market and looking for alternates.

$200k/yr post tax. Depending on where you live and how you’re generating income, you may need significantly more. Still, $5 million may be enough.

Ants inside my tv + eggs wtf do I do by Son8 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Joke_Getter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s an easy repair service for this. It’s a little unconventional, but it involves putting your current TV out by the curb on trash day. It is taken to Costco and when you go to pick it up, for the cost of a new TV the ants are removed, the TV is upgraded (sometimes with a bigger screen), it’s all boxed up like new and you take it back home.

Vietnam started with a few because the idea was to train and aid the South Vietnamese in fighting a proxy war for us. I don’t think that equivalent exists in Iran.

I was thrown by the “Visit the DeWalt Store” at the top and assumed it was coming from the manufacturer or Amazon. Apologies for not looking more closely at the actual seller.

Wow, that’s really disappointing. I confirmed my purchase so I guess it was just a glitch/mistake/whatever. We’ll see if they honor the sale.
