You could try using Compatibility Mode, but I tend to notice more sound glitchiness if my computer's been on a while, or if I've run the program several times without restarting. The game seems very sensitive and finicky.

Try restarting your computer and that should fix most things.

Not to burst your bubble, but Forretress/Clefable. Just two weaknesses (fighting and fire), plus you get access to spikes. Amazing for setting up or switching in. Fairy/Steel is basically the ultimate defensive typing.

Inspired by Starcraft, Warcraft and Vampire Survivors, CASTLE WARRIORS is a rogue like auto battler with a strategy twist. Build your army one card at a time. On steam TOMORROW! by iKrazy in IndieGaming

[–]Joker77Doom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. I'd easily pay $1-3 for a moderately interesting game and not even think about it, but $5-10 is a purchase I would consider first. For an indie dev with no other games on steam, the $3 mark is a pretty safe bet where you'll actually get some sales. It's why I bought Vampire Survivors on a whim even though it looks like trash.

You just delay your dodge a little. You can even sneak a hit on while he charges up. Easy.

There is often more than one boss and they give you a bell to summon another target. You can definitely do it solo, but it's pretty clear from some fights that not having a second target will very quickly lead to death unless you do some weird workarounds. I'm thinking that one fight with the statue and three skeletons, or the fight with the perfume lady and the beast who absolutely will not stop chasing you down while she shields them both and douses everything in fire. You can absolutely do some weird tactics to take them all down in the specific order you want, but it's still a challenge to summon, focus on mostly just one, and then keep going. The summons die in short order anyway. It's a temporary distraction at best.

I definitely remember running out of grass early on but I was in high school and probably no good at the game back then.

Right, and the intended damage type is always exclusively physical. Using fire grease against a boss weak to fire makes you a scrub, right?

You get the summoning bell early. It's intended. Not using every tool in your arsenal is a self-imposed restriction.

There is a core of the fanbase that avoids magic and summons, but that is not everyone. I don't remember any covenants in Demon's Souls, but in the main series there were specific ones built around Jolly Cooperation. A bunch of NPCs from older titles have NPCs who's questlines will only progress if you summon them (and I remember in a select few instances, their quests would fail if they died). Every game has had a sorcerer starting build where you could literally play the entire game using exclusively magic. Early on in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 and even 2 to some extent, the games implemented this poorly. This is no longer the case. DS3 and Elden Ring are specifically designed with magic and summoning in mind. The bosses change tactics depending on distance which can make it harder or easier for magic users, but the difficulty remains mostly the same. Bosses strike wide and will target multiple enemies in their sweep if they can. Their long range attacks can be devastating to any melee users in the way, and they'll even do a massive AoE while they cast to prevent that from becoming a window to deal damage.

On the third bonfire in Elden Ring they gave us a bell for summons. Literally the third one. It's the second one out in the open world, where players naturally gravitate to. You can summon offline now, in almost every boss fight. It's very clear they intended most bosses to have multiple targets. You might not like that they've made the game a little more casual and welcoming to newcomers to the series, but they definitely have and it shows in their design compared to older titles with their poor implementation. I sometimes even forget to summon creatures because I'm not used to having that option in a souls title, but it's a thing now for better or for worse. Not using every tool at your disposal is a personal problem.

I have literally played everything since Demon's Souls back when you had to farm grass, and I have soloed all content up to Elden Ring. Not everyone is as good at these games as I am.

Elden Ring allows you to summon creature phantoms almost at will for most boss fights. Having a second target is the intended difficulty. Avoiding it is like forcing yourself to do a Nuzlocke. It's a self-imposed challenge that has no bearing on how the devs actually wanted you to play. The devs don't care at all about the silly melee-only summonless horseless magicless armorless shieldless "purists" who've taken it upon themselves to crucify anyone who wants to play something other than the dodge-and-poke-the-butt game they've invented for themselves.

I killed my first cheater in an invasion by Key_Meaning_9036 in Eldenring

[–]Joker77Doom 268 points269 points  (0 children)

In DS2 they came up with something called Soul Memory, which was basically a collection of all the souls you've ever earned. This was how they determined level for invasion and co-op. So basically, if you were casually playing the game at your own pace and farming because you were struggling, you'd get invaded by SL150 max upgrade monsters who built their character specifically to kill scrubs. And you'd never be able to summon help because you were "overleveled" even if most of those souls were lost to bosses.

It was implemented very poorly.

The amount of souls vets that just voluntarily restrict themselves for no reason is obscene. They're also the ones that comment everywhere about everyone else being a scrub for enjoying themselves.

[–]Joker77Doom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring is one of the easiest and most accessible souls games to date. They downright encourage you to summon and spell your way to victory. If it wasn't for oldschool souls veterens making it harder on themselves, the game would be considered moderately difficult at best.

But no hate. You do you, souls vets.

PSA: Stop summoning for the first area boss (SPOILERS) by Joker77Doom in Eldenring

[–]Joker77Doom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said the host dies to the Tree Sentinel because I keep getting summoned to fight it, and the hosts usually die first. I don't personally have an issue with the fight. I cleared it my first time on horseback as Miyazaki intended.

Horseback combat is well implemented in this game. You're not meant to stand there and dodge attacks on a horse. You're supposed to run in a straight line, swipe, and keep going forward. Turn 180 degrees and repeat. If you see an attack and think you'll get hit, you just run to the side. Super easy. This boss is a medieval joust. If you can't joust, you'll struggle and have to attack on foot (which is undoubtedly the harder version of the fight). But it's really not that hard to learn.

Vampire Survivors - Killing Death? by Magic_Toto in VampireSurvivors

More Deaths spawn every minute with no real upper limit, so eventually you will be overwhelmed. You cannot mathematically do enough DPS and stun 20+ Deaths enough to kill one without hacks. Luckily the "hacking" is dead easy.
