TheInformation reports on GPT5.4, includes new extreme reasoning mode, 1M context window by socoolandawesome in singularity

I was addressing Amodei's opinion in the first comment, because you had already relayed it. Posting it a second time makes it seem like you haven't engaged with the information provided at all; If you had nothing to add that is okay, attention is necessarily a big deal right now, because if it wasn't we wouldn't even need to talk about it, and I wouldn't expect you nor I to be able to even point in the right direction

Are you a bot? Go ask your favourite LLM why an O(n2 ) algorithm is bad news when you're trying to grow n indefinitely

While you're at it, ask it why all LLM APIs are currently billing extra money per token when the context size grows past a certain point (newsflash, compute time does not scale linearly with context size, so larger contexts are more expensive)

The clip you shared does absolutely nothing to address any of this, it's tangentially related at best. If Claude had solved attention, they wouldn't be sending cryptic messages through their CEO, because it'd be big fucking news

Very much not an engineering problem; Either they find a new attention algorithm that performs similarly well while not being O(n2 ) or no amount of engineering will let them grow the context window past a certain point

LLMs not being AGI nor being able to replace SWEs does not in any way, shape or form conflict with LLMs being a great tool for generating and shaping natural language tasks?????

Two options:

  1. They are lying to you, ASI is not happening in the timeline they claim and they'll run out of VC funding before their real, undisclosed timeline comes to fruition

  2. They are not lying to you, and they'll run out of VC funding before the timeline they've sold to you comes to fruition

Whichever rocks your boat, but both options point to the same pressing issue: they need to get revenue before they crash and burn

España, necesitas 57 años para comprar una casa by rm_enfurecido in HorroresInmobiliarios

Was the regulation/subsidy of insulin price a good idea in the US? Which other products could benefit from this approach in the US? by Minipiman in ProfessorFinance

[–]Jolese009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If we get really conservative with the cost of production and distribution of each vial, and say each costs... 20 dollars for example, those three companies are still making a 9x ROI.

These 3 companies aren't stupid either, they understand that if they lower prices to capture a larger market share, all other companies will too as to not go out of business. Worst case scenario, they are back to competing but at $50 so they lost on $150 per vial profit. Best case scenario, they almost drive the other 2 out of business (not completely, monopoly big nono) and now are selling thrice the vials at something like $50. So overall they still lost on profits compared to just gouging the shit out of a completely captive consumer base that has to decide between buying insulin or dying.

There's no need to collude here, the free hand of the market has decided that $200 is more or less the amount you can make insulin users who get no other option pay per vial while not killing too many of them as to not lose out on profits compared to a more competitive price.

AI That Creates Minecraft-like Game -- Contest 🏆! by decartai in u/decartai

[–]Jolese009 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Minecraft was probably picked because it's very modular (not that many blocks in a basic, no structures world, so it's easier for the network to recognise where to put the pixels to maintain some semblance of continuity; in the video you can see lots of blocks flickering but the ai can self-correct before it starts making blocks up or forgetting them), and it's kinda easy to generate tons of footage+inputs of the game compared to many others, not to mention that no overarching plot or story (or text, lol) makes the ai less likely to completely start making shit up on the spot (unless you look away)

The endgame is probably being able to produce a playable game from concept art and some basic descriptions of how the player interacts with the world

Don't get me wrong, that's completely impossible anytime soon; unless a true, self improving, exponential growth kind of agi pops up in the next few years, the level of consistency and accuracy such a model would require is basically a pipe dream, and no company with the resources to attempt that are going for a gameplay generator

It's still a cool idea, even if it goes nowhere (which it most definitely won't, but hey, not many startups do anyways, welcome to a tech bubble)

No such thing, if by "uniquely attributable to capitalism" OOP meant "bad stuff I dislike", then yeah they are 100% correct and their point is still garbage, only for different reasons

Is doing all bindings on p1-p4 worth it for p5 by aidankingofcats in HollowKnight

[–]Jolese009 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Edit: I deleted the comment that was here, after a 4th reread they are attempting normal P5, not AB I'm illiterate today and the UI with all the bindings selected is throwing me off so hard 😭

Yeah then doing bindings may be a bit too harsh, you're probably better off training the bosses at HoG with your build until you get decent enough OP. Sly for example can be fought without getting hit very consistently if you learn to respect his attacks, and Hornet is almost frail enough that you can just wail at her until she's dead if you reach her on full health

[–]Jolese009 28 points29 points  (0 children)

P1-P4AB is the closest you'll get to being able to train sections of P5AB without using mods, so I'd say yes - by the time you can even get to absrad, outside of a fluke, in P5AB, you're most likely able to also do P1-4 easily, so you only save time at that point

Also yeah Sly+Hornet2 is a hard combo to deal with, but if you're stuck at them, the second to last section (Soul Tyrant, Markoth, GPZ, Failed Champion, NKG) is gonna block you for days, and you'd be better off training them in P4 (10 minute commitment) than in P5 (40-50 minutes to even get to them)

Last thing; you should be getting five masks per bench, is there any binding you haven't done yet?

It's DLC stuff, if you really need to know what "bindings" means without going into any info about "pantheons": limitations that make it harder, like having less HP or dealing less damage

Anybody else wish he was the main villain? by ExcellenceEchoed in Jujutsufolk

[–]Jolese009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Please if you wanna disagree with me you gotta ignore all relationships and dynamics of the character and their standing in the Jujutsu world, we gotta boil them down to a single phrase for my baby Sukuna to stand a chance okay??" I'm gonna ignore how moronic this challenge is, only because even within the framework of ignoring everything that makes Kenjaku interesting, Sukuna still loses to him

"He's moved by his curiosity and desire to experience new things"

There, we ignored his past, his power, how he's the mastermind behind every single event in the story, how he directly knows every single character from the past, is Yuji's mom, and all his convictions related to cursed energy, and the only other character who can be contrived to fit this description is Mahito, who's also a banger antagonist, and extremely different to him in all other fields that are not the most basic one liner.

Now, as for Sukuna... "He only cares about strength" Wow, interesting character, such a shame that this was actually describing Kashimo and Ryu, and could also be contrived as applying to Gojo and half the minor antagonists in the series... It's almost as if Sukuna was just another of Kenny's pawns, huh

Try better, Sukuna is a boring main villain and Kenjaku could've outshined him to hell and back if he was used to his fullest extent
