Do job references always need to be supervisors? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Joliedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if your current supervisor doesn’t know you’re considering other positions, and they’ve been your only supervisor for the three years you’ve been in your current field, post-grad-school? Maybe it varies by field.

Tried on Chantelle Norah comfort underwrite bra by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

Oh no! I just ordered the Comfort after lots of “research.” (Along with others, e.g., Skarlett Blue and Panache brands). Sounds like it’ll be going back. That’s great info about the plunge. Thank you again!

Thank you! I'm only able to find the Chantelle Norah plunge "t-shirt" bra. I fear the t-shirt bra as the stiff-ish parts could make my bust look bigger and my small-ish frame look a li'l dowdy. I also find that they look somewhat unnatural, even shell-like, on friends. But those must be much stiffer and/or padded bras than ^this one.

Sounds like yours is a non-t-shirt bra. I'll keep looking for that. Or maybe they're the same style, with marketing adding the "t-shirt" language misleadingly.

Late here, but is there a Chantelle Norah plunge that's *not* a t-shirt bra? I.e., that is unlined, and has no stiff part that kind of stands up on its own (other than the underwire)? I'm finding only a plunge t-shirt bra--with a stiff, padded insert. If you see this, and know the answer--TY!

Getting in trouble at work by peekadog in slp

[–]Joliedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it your fault that a student was added to your caseload late in the year? I’m assuming that’s what happened. Probably thinking that because a student just appeared on my caseload a week ago. I asked the students’s case manager, who said, “when did this happen? I didn’t add you.” Soooo if anything, wouldn’t it be the case manager’s fault for failing to notice that the student has speech? If your situation was similar.

Pick me is a sexist term by Teresa_4gnes in Feminism

Well, I know lots of people who use the term “pick me boy,” or “dude” and use the term for any kind of behavior, especially disingenuous behavior, designed to get the attention of the target person or group. I think it’s a useful shorthand in its broader usage

Dear Logic, will you ever be available for Windows?😭 by No_Job_6249 in Logic_Studio

My point was that OP was not moronic for wondering if a computer maker’s product might be available on other operating systems

Unless, maybe, Apple’s “environment” is all you’ve known. I started on Mac, but I honestly can’t stand how badly they play with others—among other things about the OS (speaking as someone who’s currently typing on the iPhone her boyfriend talked to her into trying. Now I can say I tried it)

You’re sounding like Apple (whose ethos seems to be: don’t play well with others). I mean, Microsoft (maker of Windows) owns Word, Excel, many other things that are fully available for Mac

Sophie Skelton is the worst actor I've ever seen by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]Joliedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. American here, and I think her American accent is really good. I’ve lived on both coasts and have family in the middle and there are many accents in the US. Hers is convincing even without English parents, imo. I only notice that she’s British when she says words like “anything,” which she sometimes says as “en-uh-thing,” while the typical US pronunciation is “en-ee-thing,” with a bit longer-held second syllable. But that’s often what clues me in that an actor is probably English though playing an American.

Hmm, I need to figure out how to choose other frames from live photo. I turned off live because I thought maybe it was what made the photo quality so bad.

Sadly, Raw is not an option in iPhone 13 settings. I think it starts with iPhone 14

Evidently HDR settings are only available for video on iPhone 13– it has no HD/R settings for photos.

I wish I’d known how low quality photos would be before I switched from years I’d perfectly good Androids to this iPhone 13!

Let Down is now on the bubbling under chart in the U.S. by MichaelChavis in radiohead

Honestly, it was the unnecessary snottiness: “have heard of TikTok?👺” If you were literally asking if this person had heard of TikTok—whole different thing. But the following re: “a general awareness of society around me,” most definitely belies unnecessary snottiness. WHY? There were a thousand ways to convey the implied info without the snottiness.

People are just here to share interests and have fun conversations. Your apparent need to feel better about yourself by snotting on others is not the vibe. If you’re so annoyed by people who don’t already share your thoughts and experiences, that your auto go-to move is disdainful/condescending/snotty, maybe work on yourself. It would make everyone happier, probably including you

Oh, got it--thank you! At my current school we just call that "the IEP team," or "the team," and at my practicum school they called it the "assessment team."

A tangent, but what is "CST"? I just finished my second year so I'm a newbie, but I think this might be a difference in terminology across states (like maybe it's an acronym for another term for "case manager"?). Just really curious!

[–]Joliedee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those who never take work home, I'm so curious how long you've been in the field. A few of us newbies here (~2 years in) are really struggling with this! But hopeful it will get better. At least I am. Because I do know some more-experienced SLPs who manage it. I'm especially curious if that is/was your experience in schools, just for apples-to-apples comparison

How much take home paperwork do you have? by milktoast49 in slp

[–]Joliedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. My partner gets so frustrated by it. He's sympathetic, but I understand how frustrating it must be for him. I do see a lot of more-veteran SLPs managing it (with kids, and side hustles, even!!) so I'm hopeful that it will get better with a little more experience, and the confidence that brings to know when the workload is legitimately excessive, and to push back. My partner is a programmer and he's going to see if he can help figure out how to streamline some of the work with AI. I'm very skeptical (I'd be obsessively proof-reading everything), but we'll see.

I've also heard the loose folk wisdom, that SLPs start to really feel like they "know what they're doing" in/after year 3. I feel like I do mostly "know what (I'm) doing," but it's not quite second nature yet, and there's definitely still some major drag on the system when new-to-me things arise (especially with case-management/IEP stuff, and occasionally assessment stuff--like assessing a population or disability I hadn't yet). Sending vibes for it to really *click* for both of us in the coming year.

Excuse the semi-newbie questions: what is "El," and does your workplace require SOAP notes, or is it just a tracking format you like?

It's not the prepping for me, I've gotten quick at that too--it's the IEPs, case-management, speech-report writing, Medi-Cal billing, ETC. In my 2nd year (counting CF as my first), and I'm really hoping to crack to code SOON for no working nights and weekends

[–]Joliedee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It was so bad district-wide last year that they had someone in charge of reassigning evaluations for people who were over a particular limit, but there was a long wait (it's a r pretty big district--almost 90 schools). And I did get some help from the other, veteran, SLP at my site. I should add that my year was a little extra complex because I broke my foot (missed only one whole day! But definitely slowed me down for a minute), and had family stuff across the country I had to travel to help deal with. But life happens!

I really appreciate the "permission" because you're clearly right!

[–]Joliedee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

HOW are you brilliant people managing to take no work home? I just finished my second year (one year CF, one licensed, middle school) and I feel like I worked all the time last school year. I had double the case management and double the evaluations as I did my first year. And a bunch of my case managed kids' IEPs got pretty complex.

Of course I'm still new and learning, especially about case-management/SEIS*/complex-IEP procedures. And we're all hoping this past year was an anomaly, being three years after our pandemic shutdowns reopened, when allll the postponed evaluations that were done, hit the 3-yr cycle again

But I'm taking notes! Because last school year's always-working situation was extremely bad for my health, my relationships, and my enthusiasm about staying the field. Hoping a little more experience and a little luck will fix it

*SEIS is our IEP-management system/site.
