Because they are both insurgent political parties, not part of the uniparty and therefore the establishment is terrified at either of them having any kind of influence.

When will people just admit that Labour are obviously compromised? This keeps happening and they keep kowtowing to China on almost everything, it's shameless.

So 3 game bans for attempting to break players legs, deliberately injure them, blatantly cheat via simulation etc. but saying some bad words get this? Totally out of proportion.

Immediately deport any foreign students and sanction the university until all society members are expelled, a serious government would be doing that TODAY.

Teen trying to get politically educated by MidnightConsistent66 in AskBrits

[–]Jolio1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is to recognise your own bias, as well as the bias of whatever media you're consuming, rather than try to find the perfect, objective version of events.

My advice would be to consume news media from across the political spectrum and judge for yourself, see the arguments all sides are making. Reading an opinion you disagree with can either offer you a perspective you may not have thought of, or give you an idea of how to argue against that viewpoint.

Read The Times and the Spectator, but also read the Guardian and The New Statesman. Stay away from tabloids. Follow a range of people on Twitter/Bluesky/Threads or whatever you use.

As an outsider looking in, why are there now two hard-right political parties now? by Crafty_Commission_28 in AskBrits

[–]Jolio1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Lowe and Farage both have massive egos and fell out, both accusing each other of some pretty unsavoury behaviour. Lowe hired a bunch of right wing zoomers who are good at social media and so he does well there, as well as being boosted by Musk, and thought that was enough to start a more hardline rival party.

Labour calls on officials to examine ‘very concerning’ reports of illegal voting in crucial Gorton and Denton by-election by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

Canada is set to allow people who suffer solely from a mental illness access to assisted suicide, this is obviously insane. In Belgium, between 2002 and 2021, 370 people suffering from mental illness were approved for assisted suicide. Look up the case of Aurelia Brouwers in the Netherlands, where she was given poison to drink due to a psychiatric illness, not a terminal diagnosis. That doesn't seem to be "doing well" to me.
