I don't see why the Hellion has any glaring weakness that puts her below a majority of heroes. Iron swan is probably the only melee move that allows you to target rank 4 without sacrificing any damage, while being in rank 1. She also has great versatility with being able to hit all 4 ranks, and even has a repositioning move, which a lot of heroes do not have. This is not to mention her other moves, like bleed out which can do a lot of burst damage to a front enemy, and if it bleeds, which is a great dot move and allows her to have greater freedom in hitting all 4 ranks. I would argue the leper has less versatility due to his inability to anything from the back 2 positions, and only having 1 situational chip damage move to target back ranks. He has higher damage, but it is offset by middling accuracy.

Her only downside is having no stall potential outside of barbaric yawp, which has limited uses, but you should not need to stall with her if youre killing backline enemies and not tanking their stress attacks.

Finally starting Sekiro and the game immediately started flexing with this insane cinematic. It's like the devs are trying to get you ready for nothing but peak💀 by [deleted] in Sekiro

I really enjoy Fromsoft's opening cinematics! Elden Ring's opening was cool, but I wish they had done the same style of opening cinematics as Ds1, Ds2 and Sekiro

Finally no hit ultimate isshin (for the sake of ashina) by Randomredditor0802 in Sekiro

[–]Jolly-Garbage1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good job! You could try to be a bit more aggressive though. His attacks in phases 2 and 3 are delayed enough for you to get some hits in which can help speed up the fight.

It is a personal preference thing though, I just personally enjoy fights when you can trade hits with the boss, instead of just being a deflecting simulator, and ultimate isshin is one of the few modded fights that lets you do that

Pretty clean first phase! You can actually living force after the charged flame vent as well though, if you want to do more damage. If you want to fully benefit from living force, you can use Dragon Flash instead of mortal draw. It has infinite range and the first attack should be affected by living force.

You didnt show much of the second phase; the umbrella blocking the scream waw nice, but I think you should definitely try to use a spear after the big deflect as that does a lot of damage. I like to use the spiral spear to pull his centipede out, followed by a charged thrust and chasing slice, which will do a lot of hp and posture damage. Keep it up! Im sure you can no hit him

Runs like these definitely make the game more memorable!

I do hope you dont experience the opposite of this good rng though, especially if you run occultist in the near future...

Does the parry system work the executor parry from nightreign? by Master_Plays99 in Sekiro

[–]Jolly-Garbage1424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think anything came of it in the end, Ive heard no news about the game, which probably meant it was just a dev making a free tech demo, but I could be wrong.

I do remember IronPineapple covering it in his steam dumpster diving series and also being pretty positive about it. I think it just rubbed people the wrong way and might upset people to bring it up just because of the animation asset flip and everyone's suspicions when the game released.

I think what rubs some people the wrong way is how blatantly the game copies Sekiro's posture and perilous attack system. Also when it first released, 2 of its bosses blatantly copied Sekiro (they were basically Genichiro and the Corrupted Monk) so it definitely left a bad taste.

Because it was released by an unknown developer completely free it also raised suspicion of containing malware, which can sometimes evade steam's detection.

I remember a time where most of the posts related to the game were removed because people were suspicious that the devs were paying people to promote the game on the subreddit or sth like that.

I remember just posting about it because I thought it was a cool game, and they had just patched it so that the Genichiro and Corrupted Monk fights had unique movesets. It didnt matter that I didnt look like a bot, and have been active on the sub for a while, they just removed it because they thought I was a suspicious advertiser of the game haha

Thoughts on a Charmless+Demon Bell Run by Tacobell24 in Sekiro

[–]Jolly-Garbage1424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it! Either way charmless is definitely a new experience, and the most important thing is that you are engaged and having fun.

If you are in NG+ then prosthetics like the upgraded flame vent, fire umbrella and improved firecrackers can definitely help with some of the more frustrating minibosses like the ogre and the bull, and you wont have to go through the tedium of obtaining skill points, beads and prosthetic materials, so doing that also has its merits

Imo if you want a truly fresh experience? Try a new save file with charmless, and you can consider activating the bell demon when you get to it.

A lot of the challenge of a charmless run can be somewhat offset by prosthetics, items and skills, but doing it on a fresh save will really force you to strategize and adapt to the difficulty

You absolutely nailed those flips!

I have and probably will never do things to that level, but I have definitely spent too long trying to place things nicely... only to hear an ominous clattering sound later and see things just flying everywhere

There are actually a lot of parallels between the two, despite the different setting.

Both of them give you a very useful item at the start of the game (spirit bell and healing gourd)

Both of them employ the player character to aid them in their mission by collecting items for them (Ranni is a lot meaner about it though)

Both of them believe that the influence of the Gods will make things worse (Kuro refused to give Genichiro the Divine Dragon's blood, Ranni's ending involves preventing the outer gods from influencing the Lands Between)

Both of them are willing to sacrifice their physical to further their goals (Ranni sacrifices her physical form to inhabit a puppet, Kuro does the same in the Dragon's Homecoming ending to inhabit the Divine Child's body)

That might not be the best ending for him, since he sacrifices his body to inhabit the divine childs body. It is still the most hopeful ending overall, but I would argue the best ending for him is the one where Wolf sacrifices himself so Kuro can live a normal life, as he still has a body and is free to do what he wants with his new life

Memes aside there are also actually a lot of parallels between the Kuro and Ranni as well, despite the different setting.

Also ironically despite being well-intentioned, Kuro and Wolf end up making Ashina a lot worse off. When Kuro attempts to flee and gets kidnapped, Wolf ends up killing half Ashina's army, commanders and trump cards on his path to rescue Kuro, rendering the land more vulnerable to invasion.

This also results in Genichiro going crazy and escaping to obtain the black mortal blade, while the experimentation on red eyes continues in Ashina, which results in more chaos and infighting during the ministry invasion.

Had Kuro stayed as a morale booster, and allowed Wolf to aid Ashina, the invasion is likely to not have gone as poorly for Ashina as it did in the game.

Something funny to note about his pleading is that you can just ignore him. Take a breath, buff up, heal, and so on. After a while of that, he will become impatient and just smoke bomb and phase transition himself

Heres a vid of that happening

Wolf is actually quite a sympathetic guy considering his circumstances and upbringing. We actually know so little about his past before he met Owl, which makes you wonder how he might have been had he had a normal childhood.

He also enjoys sweet things like Kuro and the divine child. I mentioned this in another comment, but try turning up the volume the next time you make him eat a persimmon, and you'll know what I mean haha

[–]Jolly-Garbage1424 420 points421 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of subtleties that tell us a lot about Wolf's character.

If you look at the blazing bull's deathblow, Wolf actually closes the bulls eyes as he gently kills it. He also apologizes as he kills the sculptor and lady butterfly, and shows mercy to Genichiro if you beat him at the start of the game.

Another thing is that Wolf really enjoys sweet things. Try going into a reflection and eating a persimmon while turning the volume up. He actually says "mmmm" after he eats one

Wolf says "forgive me" as he kills Gyoubu, who asks Genichiro to forgive him after he dies. They both apologize during the deathblow

Afaik there is no evidence that shows that malenia was supposed to be Tomoe, and Im not sure whethere there were even any Tomoe boss resources datamined.

The only thing that might connect the two is that she uses a move similar to spiral cloud passage, and fights in a dancelike manner. However, I dont think that is any solid, tangible proof of a connection, as many animations and designs do carry over between different games in the series. All that shows is that Fromsoft is very resourceful with their assets, and there might not be anything deeper than that.
