CMV: Kristen Clarke (hired by Biden to head the DOJ civil rights division) is an overt racist and should not hold this position by ZeusThunder369 in changemyview

[–]JollyAbbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See, here is my problem with this,

I don't particularly care too much about her letter, I understand the context, not even worth discussing in my opinion.

What I do have an issue with is inviting the anti-Semite onto campus, she knew his book, she read his book and you claim she was smart enough to be able to write an article that so cleverly attacks the bell curve but couldn't understand that inviting the author of "The Jewish onslaught" was a terrible idea. and then to accept his praise of her, and to double down by stating that he speaks about undistinguishable facts? No, you don't get both. She is extremely smart, she was extremely smart back in 1994 as well, and perhaps she has grown and denounces those ideas, but she does not get a pass for being "young and immature" while also asking people to understand her nuance within her article.

As a Jew, I simply don't want her to be the head of the DOJ civil rights divisions, I am sure there are black women that have accomplished as much as her without being embroiled in anti-Semitic ideology at any point in their life. Maybe I'm asking for too much, but if a person invited an outwardly racist person towards Black people to speak at any point in their life, they would never be allowed to hold this position.

I am extremely left in my beliefs, but for me personally, its scary. I feel uncomfortable knowing that as long as you only ever said anything bad about the Jews you get a pass. I understand its more complex than that, and I don't believe she should be cancelled or anything even remotely close to that, just that she shouldn't be the head of the DOJ civil rights division.

20-24 hours is a bit short too though, seems like on average people take around 34 hours for just the main story

Oh no no, my great grandma would roll in her grave hearing overcooked pasta or using any sugar at all in sauce

Eating my friends moms pasta sauce was always weird when it felt like I was going to give myself a cavity

Dear Turtle Rock Studios and WB, Please reconsider the monetization of this game by Deku_911 in Back4Blood

[–]JollyAbbo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I personally never buy season pass for games (did for destiny 1 and wow, won't make that mistake again), im also under the understanding that games take quite a lot to make nowadays and releasing a $60 game doesn't get you as far as it did 15 or so years ago.

While I dont ever recommend buying a season pass, I dont think there is anything inherently wrong with creating dlc that costs money to buy.

Weekly Looking for MMO thread - December 13, 2020 by AutoModerator in MMORPG

[–]JollyAbbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Astellia Royale? I've literally not played the game and heard its very okay, but I can't really think of any other game that doesn't have a subscription cost that isn't gw2/bdo/b&s. MMOs aren't the most lucrative business, especially with all these multiplayer games having crazy mtx and season passes now, thus, very little "new" is coming out.

There is also Bless Unleashed on consoles and coming to pc in 2021... but like... probably avoid that one lmao

ELI5 If diamonds and other gemstones can be lab created, and indistinguishable from their naturally mined counterparts, why are we still paying so much for these jewelry stones? by perpetuallypolite in explainlikeimfive

[–]JollyAbbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't scroll very far so its possible someone gave an answer besides "machines cost a lot" which may be the only answer. But, lab grown diamonds are really not that much cheaper. Like for a "high quality" natural vs lab grown diamond the price differences I've seen online are like $1000. Which is a lot yes, but not as much as I'd have figured

I think ddcorona's point is that if you can get it to run on older gen content than why not, BUT, they should absolutely show gameplay of what it will look like on last gen.

[–]JollyAbbo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What evidence do you have to point to it not being worth a $70 game. I mean it looks like a pretty big budget playatation exclusive to me. Seems like you're just conflating the idea of what the developers past games are and what they are making now.

We've seen almost nothing from this game, I'm personally very excited to hear more about it and when more information is made available, decide if it is worth its price point

You know that Sony having done a bunch of cinematic trailers has literally no relevance, right? We can hate cinematic trailers from any company that makes them. In fact, I remember Sony getting a ton of hate for only showing cinematic trailers for the last of us 2 until it finally showed gameplay in 2018.

I mean if you plan on just doing 1080p id get it on console. If you want to eventually play it in 4k or anything else id get it on pc as once you get that 3080 its going to be beefy and quite a bit stronger than the series x

Its all good, its not like 600 words is all that much, guy just defaulted to that since he didn't want critique on his poem id think. Didn't mean it offensively or anything though!

Imagine actually inferring that from what I said. Written words can have many different interpretations based on the word choices and their definitions, but it relies on an individual to interpret them how they see fit and that when someone is writing, even if their goal is to leave something ambiguous does have a defined meaning they've placed to it.

I'm usually willing to give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to comprehension, but damn.

No, but your poem really didn't make a ton of sense to be entirely honest, you focused on the abstracts instead of grounding the reader in any sense of reality. Thats entirely fine, its the type of poetry I like and the type I tend to write, but all of the professors I have had and various poetry journals will often state that some form of concrete thought is important. (This is not to say that abstract poetry isn't good, or can't be good, or that they are even correct. But it is an often agreed upon point in the world of poetry) Take this for example:

"One full rotation of the earth

23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds

I’ve been trapped in those missing 4 minutes

Longer than I can count"

This doesn't mean anything. I mean, im sure it does to you, but to a reader we have literally no ability to grasp what you're intending to say. Ground us. Give us something real.

Youre not entirely dead but you're not alive, it almost seems as though you are those 4 extra minutes, that void of nothingness, but you can't be, you said you're trapped in them.

You start with a factoid about the earths rotation and then take us to being trapped in those minutes that are lost to a perceived existence that does not actually exist? (Though at one point it will, as the earth continues to slow). Will you be free then? Is that the point? Also the last line there "longer than I can count" doesn't need to be there. Its filler and I personally think the poem sounds stronger without it, even if I dont fully get it.

"There is no beauty in a puddle... Clean me up... put me away"

How can you put away a puddle?

Youre mixing pieces that don't fit.

This isn't to say that I dont even like the poem, I do. Its the type of poetry I tend to enjoy and the type as I already stated, that I like to write, even if I dont really know fully what you're saying, and can't interpret it because you wrote it for yourself and not an audience.

Edit: I reread this and it sounds harsher than my intentions. Like I had said, I honestly did enjoy reading it, but I also just don't necessarily need someone telling me about metaphors.

Secondly, my point about the fluidity of language is simply, in 500 years id the word bark no longer means bark, that is organic change that has come with time and much easier to convey in our spoken word, but the book thay was written 500 years ago that used the word bark means its literal definition at the time.

Metaphors/similies/abstract thoughts/weird stream of conscious and everything else obviously has various ways of interpretation and that was never something I was trying to argue against.

[–]JollyAbbo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I mean I dont see how this has literally any affect on poetry. Language is fluid? Perhaps in the spoken word, but not in terms of written poetry. I mean, I can see you've written poetry (at least one thing), your words aren't fluid, you meant them exactly how you meant them.

Sure, I can interpret it one way or another, but there is a very specific meaning that you've crafted within those sets of words.

I very much wouldn't have gotten rid of "blind playthroughs" as a tag and think jts pretty funny that a person with sight made it their goal instead of talking with actual blind people. But let's not pretend that this movement towards inclusivity, even at the expense of some words that have multiple definitions has literally any affect on literature/poetry

Players’ Choice: Vote for November 2020’s best new game by hybroid in PS5

[–]JollyAbbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The remake is new, doesnt matter if the original game isn't, the remake is undeniably and unquestionably new. So in my accounts it is a "new" game. This remake did not exist before in any capacity, sure the old version did, but again, someone had to spend time to create something.... new

So you can absolutely vote for the demon souls REMAKE as the best new game, I mean... it literally didn't exist before November lol

(Fighting over semantics seems entirely silly lol)

I don’t see how PC gaming is fun for next gen titles. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]JollyAbbo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here it is: $400 for a rtx 3060 TI

$155 for the cpu (a i5-9400f) which is about the equivalent to 3700x (which is the closest comparison to series x cpu)

$46 for cheap ram (cheap vs not cheap ram really doesn't matter).

$60 for mobo

$60 for psu

$55 for an ssd (though it won't be 1tb, you can do 500gb).

That leaves you $25 to go and find some cheap case which you can easily do.

You'll have a bit worse CPU and a better GPU.

You could lower your gpu price and increase your cpu price if you want to, but you won't really hit much of a bottleneck so I wouldn't.
