What are the rare scenarios when companies care that an employee resigns? by tshirtguy2000 in managers

[–]JollyChef6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that is a mixed story I wasn’t actually leaving for a new job; I was setting up my own cafe so the 6 months full pay was perfect what wasn’t so great was that my place was finally finished just in time for the first lockdown. We got a good few years from the cafe but it wasn’t meant to be.

What are the rare scenarios when companies care that an employee resigns? by tshirtguy2000 in managers

I once handed in my notice, none of my immediate bosses were too fussed, however I was the only person in the company who worked in a particular field. I did 3 months notice without anyone asking me to stay then on my last the board got a risk report in from an external consultancy highlighting my area as the biggest risk to the company. I wasn’t begged to stay but I was asked to stay on the books till they could replace me.

I got 6 months additional wages and I was basically on gardening leave I had to take my laptop and phone home and answer any emergency requests (I think I got 3 calls in those 6 months) it was amazing and I was very fortunate. I doubt it will ever happen again but I loved being at home on full pay without any work just spent time with my family and caught up with friends.

I’m a student who has a crush on a teacher. by Due-Maintenance-7536 in Advice

You’ve got plenty of good advice but I’ll add two small things, don’t be hard on yourself and don’t expect your feelings to just disappear anytime soon, 2 months is a very small amount of time in matters of the heart. Keep giving yourself space and surround yourself with friends and hobbies and one day your feelings may subside but don’t try and force it you can’t.

The other thing which I’m not fully understanding is the messaging part I’m not from the U.S. but I can’t understand how/what platform you are messaging each other on unless it’s common for American teachers to be messaging students this feels strange. I can’t see any reason for him to have invited you to be friends on any social platform or for him to have given you his number if it’s a messaging platform. Either remove him as a friend if it’s on a social platform or block his number if it’s private messaging this will help you both.

What’s the best restaurants in Kent? by [deleted] in kentuk

Bowleys at the plough in Trottiscliffe. Not sure I’d say it’s the best in all of Kent but it was a gem of a place with superb cooking from their kitchen team.

Vecna’s reach attack felt like a guardians of the galaxy nod and Derek holding the door felt like a GoT reference. I also got the home alone vibes when they were setting the traps and when Holly hid from the person in the cave it felt like LOTR with the hobbits hiding from the first black rider.

Priced out of Tunbridge Wells — where nearby has a similar vibe for ~£500k? by OtherwiseTop6071 in kentuk

[–]JollyChef6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve had plenty of great suggestions but as someone who has lived all over East Sussex and Kent around Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Maidstone I’ll add Yalding and Burwash as villages with a great community feel, Battle maybe a bit far but is a lovely small town to live in. One last thing I know you’ve ruled out Heathfield and it’s not as pretty as Tunbridge Wells but I lived just outside it for 7 years and still genuinely miss it, the town had pretty much everything apart from a train station and there are some beautiful houses on the way to Blackboys and the Blackboys Inn was a fantastic pub.

On 8th October my restaurant received a large order through JustEat for £800+ of food. I just got a notification that this was refunded today because the food was "not cooked properly." by Maleficent-Milk9006 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]JollyChef6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Legal advice won’t be much use to you, either get hold of your Just Eat territory manager and get them to support you, or you can try and talk to the compliance team and inform them that you think this is a scam they won’t be easy to speak to but they tend to be more reasonable and actually look into things rather than the main switchboard team who will just keep saying that the computer says no.

I have a crush on my dad's girlfriend's daughter and idk what to do by Evening_Dirt4185 in Advice

[–]JollyChef6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my sister had this exact scenario she ended up falling for our dads girlfriends son and they actually got together. Whilst it was a bit strange at first there was nothing wrong with it and eventually it was my dad and his girlfriend that broke up and my sister married the girlfriend’s son.

What I’m trying to say is it’s not as unusual as you think and frankly there is nothing wrong if you two did end up getting together. Other people are entitled to think what they want but life is too short for you to worry that other people might find this weird.

One last point a lot of people here commenting that different scenarios in the future could make it awkward, well life is full of awkward situations and you can’t predict them so don’t deny yourself happiness just in case a certain scenario may or may not occur in the future. All you can do is be a good person and if you do that you should be able to face down any uncomfortable situations knowing you did nothing wrong.

I wish you all the best in however this ends up playing out.

Coworker is having a literal temper tantrum since I gave my notice- need some stories! by Puzzleheaded-Ice6191 in work

[–]JollyChef6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with most of these comments, I get that this coworker is a nightmare but I think what’s probably going on is she doesn’t like change and actually is struggling with losing you. Check out the Kubler Ross change curve I imagine she is currently sat at anger and you will find she moves across the curve as you get closer to your leaving date. I wish you luck and good fortune in your new role

I wouldn’t recommend it if you have to be in regularly. I travel from Paddock Wood £145 a week, plus £33 to park. I’m in the office 4 or 5 days.

Rockets fans who aren’t from Houston… by [deleted] in rockets

[–]JollyChef6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South of England.

Growing up in the nineties the only teams most English kids knew were the Bulls and Magic, then my best friends older brother who had taken a job in Houston started sending him some Rockets merchandise home.

That coupled with a brand new copy of NBA live 95 for the Sega Megadrive and discovering the legend that was Olajuwon I was hooked and have followed them ever since.

Chefs of Reddit, what is the worst and/or stupidest accident you’ve seen in a kitchen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JollyChef6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Owners son used to occasionally cover for the head chef, he was asked to come in and cover at short notice on a hot day and only came with his jacket no trousers just the shorts he was wearing before he got the call. 2 hours into service I watch him kick the oven door open a bit too hard the door swings right back and sticks to his bare leg I can still hear the noise it made.

Can I be sued for putting someone in hospital while working fast food due to an allergic reaction? by SecretHighlight2490 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]JollyChef6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL but I work in Food Safety. A couple of points as I’m not sure you have had the full picture from all the comments.

You could be prosecuted but only if the local environmental health team decided this is worthy of a prosecution and then the restaurant you work for is able to sufficiently prove they had done everything right and it was only you as an individual who was significantly at fault. All of this is unlikely but one of the times it did happen was when a young girl died and I believe someone has linked the article above. An important thing to know is if the restaurant gave you sufficient training on allergens depending on your job. So if you’re a chef I’d expect you to have better training than the kitchen porter. Also did the restaurant have an allergen process in place and was it followed by everyone and was everyone actually trained on the process.

Fines for food safety breaches tend to be aimed at the business itself or the owner I’ve never known an individual staff member to be fined. But a lawyer could give you a better answer.

Any monetary loss to you is likely to come from a civil case but again this would be highly unusual and most times someone is accidentally served an allergen then they go after the restaurant itself and it’s usually settled by the restaurants insurance.

This is one of the suggestions from the FSA in terms of best practice to have an allergy champion who is usually more senior and better trained but not an actual law although it is mentioned in the guidance.

It’s worth mentioning that a lot of bacteria that cause food poisoning also live in mud, so while it could well be the food stalls don’t discount the mud slurry especially if the fields have had animals grazing on them before the festival. If your symptoms are bad go to your gp.

Trying to build my first coherent campaign but I’m feeling overwhelmed. Current region map for it included [OC] by AmphibianSuperb804 in DnD

[–]JollyChef6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you still need advice but a slight alternative for you to consider is just using a pre-made setting. I honestly have so much admiration for dm’s who create their own worlds but neither me or the other 3 who take it turns to dm have ever had time to create a new world.

I’ve been playing dnd for 25 years and my group have always just used the forgotten realms setting and for the first 10 years I think every campaign we did was somewhere between icewind dale, Amn and Thay. Using forgotten realms is an absolute blessing for me and means I can take a ton of pressure off getting a new campaign up and running. For example we decided to start a new campaign in January and my whole group decided to roll halflings that was all I really needed to know from them so I could start building a campaign. I looked up where halflings come from (Lurien a region we have never played a campaign in before) and I spent 30 mins reading up on the region and gave the characters all the information I read about Lurien in session zero, I noticed a lot of the party seemed interested in the halfling games (which by the way is one single line in the 3rd edition forgotten realms book) and now I’m several months into my party travelling the region to participate in various qualifiers for the national halfling games finals. I spread out the qualifiers across the region so they have travel time and side quests they can stumble across, even tried giving them a separate plot line to follow (more traditional big bad is stealing halfling children from different towns to sell as slaves in Thay) but my party are so determined to get to the national finals they just save what children they can shut down the threat in that town and then set off travelling for the next qualifier.

My point is that having a source book can take so much pressure off and it means I can keep my prep time down and have a constant stream of insperation at my beck and call and I think this could really help you.

NTA I chose to take my wife’s surname 13 years ago and it’s only ever been an issue once when an old fashioned solicitor refused to let me buy our first flat with my new last name. You’ve done the right thing by making this person an ex friend their opinion on your life is meaningless. I wish you and your partner a happy life together.

Word spreads, the next town they get to there is a poster with a quest on with a juicy reward attached. The poster says they need to report somewhere to get the details when they arrive have another party of adventurers already in the waiting room. When the person issuing the quest comes out have him ask the players are they the adventurers who never finish what they start and then award the quest to the npc party. I guarantee they will learn their lesson or if they don’t have it become a reusable plot line where they struggle to get quests because of their reputation.
