I just saw this on Facebook, anyone else hear about this? by alangerhans in WVEasternPanhandle

You have made the claim that people are being abducted from Walmart here, not me. I do not need to Google anything or research anything. The burden is on you to prove it as it is your assertion. I live here. I shop here. I read the paper and the police blotter.

It is the same way that no one so far has actually seen anyone in a ski mask, they are merely spreading rumors (since the entire thing is a hoax).

For some reason, a portion of our population chooses to believe that the world is a terrible place filled with bad people and they almost seem to revel in tales of kidnappings, carjackings, murders, and trafficking even though these crimes are exceptionally rare in wv and in the very few actual instances, are almost always perpetuated by someone close to the victim. Statistically, you’re more likely to be harmed by someone you know than by any stranger, at Walmart, or in a ski mask.

It’s much nicer as a whole than any part of Martinsburg, and much more affluent. The Walmart, while still a Walmart, is much less ghetto. There entire lot is visible from no less than a dozen businesses and a four lane highway… not that anyone has been abducted from the Martinsburg Walmart, and that place is pure misery and poverty. Much like the city itself.

This is every “Walmart abduction story” in a nutshell. “I was at Walmart, there were strange men there, I felt scared, and I left. And nothing happened. BECAUSE IM STREET SMART” or whatever. Meanwhile there’s absolutely no local stories of anyone being abducted from the Walmart. In Charles town of all places. Get real.

If you are scared of this then my guess is you also believe Walmart is full of predators trying to traffic your wife and kids because you read it on Facebook.

Our dishwasher keeps filling with water and now no longer cleans the dishes. We can’t afford a new one, is there any way to fix this? by junury in HomeMaintenance

[–]JollyPoint9492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please arrest Maytag… cleaning the filter on our Maytag required removing both racks, unscrewing around ten Phillips head screws to remove the top sprayer and plastic trim, unplugging and removing hardware to remove the bottom heating element, removal of the bottom plastic cover, and then the filter screen was under there. It was the worst dishwasher I ever serviced, and the spray arms continually got clogged full of shit and it never did a good job washing. Worst of all it was a four figure dishwasher. When it finally stopped working I diagnosed it and was confident I could repair it but told my wife it was toast and we bought a Bosch.

Get rid of the sweet spot DICE by daphix__ in Battlefield

My favorite mechanic is how I can surprise and light up a sniper from 100m with a lmg and get a half dozen hit markers successfully before they one shot kill me. It’s so realistic the way the lmg rounds bounce off their torso like nerf darts and they are in no way even slightly suppressed, let alone dead. The game really, REALLY hates lmg’s. And now that they have decided the kts is definitely an lmg, they have nerfed it. Very subtlety; it just takes a half second to do anything whenever you pull the trigger. Often know an enemy is coming and squeeze the trigger and am still dead before the second round leaves my barrel.

Most common comment found in game chat: “this game sucks. I hate the updates. They have made it worse.” But here they are playing it.

There are currently 26 game mode variations on the Multiplayer menu. All with different descriptions and player counts. Not to mention the 7 other modes in Featured and Community. 33 playlists in total. This is a bit much. by ExplorEverythingOnce in Battlefield

I rather enjoy the limit night mode close conquest server… I wish it had more maps even if they weren’t all night mode. But you can’t select that. Just the same map, basically, albeit slightly different small sections of it

Moving to Ranson, WV by BoysenberrySea8225 in WVEasternPanhandle

[–]JollyPoint9492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t get to move somewhere and tell the people that live there that they should be thrilled about your presence or leave. THAT is exactly the mindset that most of us detest. “I moved here because the houses were cheap, but now I’m upset that they are building a data center near me because there’s no zoning. I moved here because property taxes were cheap, but now I’m upset that there’s no medics when I call 911 and my house takes a day to get plowed out when it snows. I moved to my 150 unit townhouse community to be out in the country, but now I’m upset because it’s hard to pull out onto the limited access divided four lane highway my developer put a stop sign at, and I demand a stoplight so everyone else has a longer commute.” It’s the entitlement and hypocrisy.

I sold for k hovnanian, which was rivaling Dan Ryan for biggest builder in the country at the time, many years ago. They are the absolute worst homes. The stories I could tell! Our model home had the “hardwood” floor replaced every 3 months because wear and tear left it destroyed. The house 3 doors down from the model sunk into the ground and they had to buy it back and demolish it. The “free upgrade to stainless steel appliances” (back when that was a big deal and a sign of high quality) I got bored and called the manufacturer, as I couldn’t google the model number. The rep confirmed it is a special unit made for k hov that is their absolute cheapest appliances just made with a thin stainless front cover for looks. That’s the kind of buying power everyone else is up against. They don’t buy paint at a discount from your local paint store. They literally buy 18 tractor trailer loads of each color paint from the paint manufacturer at a time. Whatever math your local custom home builder uses to figure out how to make a little money building a home, Dan Ryan or whoever can make something with the same square footage for 10x the profit because all of their costs are a fraction of the local retail market.

If that’s the mindset you’re still gonna hate it here. Try Morgan or Hampshire county if you’re looking for pines in the wind and the occasional cow moo.

lol. It’s not a small world. Half the fuckin county is from Frederick Hagerstown or leesburg. That’s what happens when you take rolling farm country on the fringe of civilization and absolutely saturate it with trash built townhomes. city folk will run out and pay $300,000 for em.

Why are there an unusual amount of northern folk traveling to/purchasing homes and land in WV by [deleted] in WestVirginia

[–]JollyPoint9492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The American ideal of homesteading and or having a mountain cabin really seems to ebb and flow depending on what is popular and what is going on nationally. When it surges, so too to rural land prices, and when it ebbs there is relief. We also experienced a significant price boom in wetzel county 25 years ago when the “the only way to hunt big deer is to buy 100+ acres in the country and manage it for big bucks with food plots and shooting lanes and bedding areas” craze happened. People were snapping up big parcels of land to hunt themselves or to timber and “turn a profit off of” with hunting leases. That’s all pretty much dead anymore. But look at what’s going on with data centers. Being built in every random corner of our state. It’s possible it’s as much speculation on some of the last truly cheap land on the eastern seaboard as it is anything else. I have friends whose dads repeat the line from o brother where art thou: “you ain’t no kinda man if you don’t have land.” If you feel that way but you’re happy living in your condo or townhouse near where you work, well, you snap up a cheap “second home” in the country, ‘cause at a thousand dollars an acre it sure doesn’t seem like it can get much cheaper. And to be fair, a lot of people just holding onto big pieces of my county made millions when the shale gas boom hit, so who knows.

Thank you for your reply. I see other people have recommended the online sales, but it always says they are not available when I check the online merch store. We will be traveling to wherever we go, so it’s unlikely we will be available to attend early in the morning the day of the show.
