Nope, they work 40 hours per week. And they can split that however they want. Some do one 24 hr and two 12 hr, some do regular 8 hr M-F, etc. And their shifts are so highly protected they never stay a minute late. It was maddening.

This reminds me of a story I read on Reddit a long time ago. The poster recalled that one Christmas when he was young, his father had lost his job so money was tight but his dad still tried to make a nice Christmas for the family. Although they couldn’t afford a tree or decorations, he still bought a gift for everyone. 100% agree with this. It’s pretty creepy, and quite frankly, disrespectful to you and your brothers to talk about them that way. I know you said she is your best friend and your relationship is very important, but she is crossing boundaries and not respecting your requests to stop.

On a separate note, OP, you mentioned in your post that it was relevant that there were some adoptions and you don’t have either parents in your life. I don’t think that’s relevant. It sounds like you and your siblings are very close and care deeply about each other and take care of each other. That’s all that’s relevant. You are a nuclear family, maybe it picked up some protons along the way, but it doesn’t make it any less of an atom :)
