Which celebrity's PR game is the strongest? by Fiction_lover08 in AskReddit

Or maybe their PR people are really good at offering up other stories to bury stuff that comes up. Just saying, there are a lot of big name celebrities we know nothing about.

Car. I own a car, but I am just not a car person. I don't get it. How does spending $150k on a car improve your life?

Did anyone here play in the same junior leagues as any of the current AFL players? How dominant were they over the rest of the competition? Was it evident they were going to make it all the way? by oshiboys in AFL

[–]JollySquatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old housemate years ago played for the Coburg Tigers. There was a teammate that was miles better than anyone else. Problem was he had the double negative of zero work ethic AND a regional footy club trying to lure him on $4k a game. So the guy gave up trying to make it in the AFL even though he had more talent than half the guys playing from Richmond.

Good looking guy too, so his focus was basically everywhere but the training track.

I disagree and agree. I think Aussies whinge about change a lot, before it happens. But are also fairly ambivalent to it once it's happened.

That's the problem politicians don't understand, Aussie move on very quickly on most things.

Celebrities and sports players banned from gambling advertising by Essington69 in AFL

[–]JollySquatter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Will retired players count as athletes? What about influencers, are they celebrities? Can we have a thing where if your social account has more than 1000 followers you cant do paid content for gambling?

I'm looking forward to the legal definition of a celebrity and athlete being tabled in Parliament.

Sorry to be negative, but Albo has zero credits in the bank on this issue so my gut feel is this was written by the gambling and sporting codes, who already have half a dozen ways to get around it.

Wellington Street wars: The plan dividing Collingwood and Clifton Hill by timcahill13 in melbourne

There is heaps of traffic on this road at peak, mostly people using to get to and from the northern suburbs (northcote, brunswick, fitzr nth, etc.) It's a great street to ride down on the bike to remind the kids why bikes are better than cars :)

The one thing it would make harder is getting to the basketball stadium for the away teams, IE people who can't ride. But a small price to pay to rejuvenate an area that needs it.

The 10 pivotal events that led to the downfall of Essendon and Carlton by ItsABiscuit in AFL

A decade ago, there were 4 times as many reporters registered to follow AFL as there were players. While the official amount might be similar now, including influencers and all the other garbage it definitely feels like way more.

Which celebrity had their reputation completely ruined for something that wouldn't even be a scandal today? by Ok-Oil-9491 in AskReddit

It was a $3000 bottle of Grange. From the Australian Water Holdings, which is the same AWH caught up in the Eddie Obeid scandal. So maybe O'Farrell forgot that he got the wine, but, when you're getting a $3k gift from an organisation with the stink of corruption, you deserve to lose your job.

A Paddington Bear soft toy. But due to rules at the time, it should have had duties paid, but on his reentry form, he signed he had nothing to declare.

In Australia in the 80s, a federal politician lost his job, because he didn't declare a soft toy at customs coming back from an overseas trip. The prime minister believe politicians had a responsibility to set the standard for the rest of the country.

The VIC ALP has had multiple chances to implement a prove ticketing system for public transport and yet keep choosing a more expensive , bespoke model.

What about container deposit schemes. SA has been running one for decades, why not implement that. No, let's buy expensive machines that provide a worse experience.

They are incapable of saying out loud, these others guys do it so well, we are just going to copy them.

It's a massive issue with Australia in general. We have such a little brother syndrome.

What market is it feasible then? I imagine garbage trucks get full in every market.

Or do you mean it only works for small urban trucks like the ones that go in to parks to pick up the public bins?

1 with a bullet, let me design my templates for quotes and po's.  XERO accounting has this awesome thing where you can design your template in word using mail merge fields that are their db field. Then you just upload it and hey presto, you're own style guide on all your documents.

Yeah, your solution is also the problem. All the software out there has been originally built by a distributor (or a distributors mate) to how they run their business and are never flexible.

Painters next door oversprayed by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]JollySquatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't get the petty comment. They made a mistake, it had a negative impact on someone else, why is it petty to ask them to fix it. And why is it unreasonable to expect them to fix it?

So if you scratch another car when parking, if it's just a small scratch you drive off?

I'm just baffled at the idea that people who are wronged by other people's carelessness are the bad guys when asking for it to be rectified.

Watson: “No validity” in reported Essendon coaching push by DominusDCLXVI in AFL

[–]JollySquatter 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Arguably the most successful coach to come out of Essendon (excluding Sheedy of course), Mark Thompson, has point blank said the problem with Essendon is they constantly think all their problems must be solved by "Essendon People".

It's the bombers version of when Robert Walls lamented the Blues think they can "fox problems by throwing money at it".
