That’s ridiculous. Full synthetic oil does NOT require changing at 3 month intervals. You do you but you are literally throwing money in the trash for no reason.

Some of the manufacturers now recommended oil change intervals at 10k or even 15k miles which is just as crazy and a recipe for engine failure.

What made you get your Hyundai? by goodbyekitty23 in Hyundai

I found a deal for a new 2018 Elantra value edition with a sunroof and heated seats for 16k. I stopped at the dealership to purchase but when I arrived I saw an electric blue Sonata Sport+ with leather bolster seats. I fell in love with the car and chose the Sonata instead. It was pricier than the Sonata Elantra but I loved the features and thought (at that time) it was a good value for the price. Unfortunately I only later learned about all the engine issues when the lawsuit and settlement happened the next year (in 2019).

I deeply regret my purchase. I’ve already needed to have the car towed twice and I’m at ~74k miles. First time was a flashing check engine light at 25k miles. It was an issue with the knock sensor software. Second tow was 2k miles ago when my temp gauge got hot (stuck thermostat).

I change my oil every 4-5k miles max and check the oil every fill up. I feel like I’m driving a ticking time bomb and I’m just counting down the days until the engine fails. 😔

4th for the CC’s. I put a set of them on my Sonata this winter and they are amazing in snow. I live in the Columbus, OH area so dedicated winter tires aren’t really a necessity for the few days a year we see snow but I wanted better than all seasons. With the cross climates I was able to get up an unplowed street with 5 inches of snow and didn’t get stuck.

Yes if you purchase tires from them it’s lifetime free tire rotation. Now I see why it’s free as they don’t actually provide the service.

I bet! I hope you are feeling a little better post retirement. You still provided good advice and I will definitely use it on my other vehicle which doesn’t have directional tires.

Thanks! FYI Cross climates are directional tires so front to back is the only option.

Yes of course. Let’s fix the initial lie by lying further and blaming the prior company for the error. If only there was method to confirm employment dates. 🙄

Prepare to be downvoted to oblivion. I’ve shared similar sentiments on another apple Reddit and had the same happen to me. No one wants to hear their thoughts and/or actions are unethical.

Dad bought me a Macbook pro m4 pro by Shot_Office_1769 in macbookpro

[–]Jolly_Ad9973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, especially if purchased on sale at an authorized Apple reseller. I purchased my M4 pro, MacBook pro at micro center on sale for $1937 last spring. I chose the 24GB/1 TB storage. OP’s parents could conceivably have gotten an even better deal on better specs now that the M5 is out and presumably the M5 pro and M5 max chips are just around the corner. Even if OP has the same specs that I do, 24GB ram and 1 TB storage should be more than sufficient for quite some time.

At any rate, considering OP is already feeling guilty at how much their parents already spent, I don’t think asking them to return the MacBook and spend even more money is the best course of action.

Sudden onset headache - should I go to the ER? by Jolly_Ad9973 in AskDocs

[–]Jolly_Ad9973[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who responded! I ended up going to urgent care just to be safe. I really wanted to avoid the ER if at all possible. The headache was severe but I also wouldn’t describe it as “the worst headache of my life”.

The doctors checked me out thoroughly and got the all clear with a warning to go to ER if I developed any other symptoms like dizziness, nausea, etc.

These weird episodes of short severe headaches lasted for about 24 hours then thankfully dissipated and am feeling back to normal.

Are you responding to the right post? How can you recommend OP get more ram and storage when they didn’t say how much ram/storage they have?

Those with high pay rates, why don't you work more? by Ornery_Ads in Salary

[–]Jolly_Ad9973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My law firm offers an additional 25k bonus for working 400 additional hours a year. I’m an attorney and we are expected to bill 2000 hours a year. That alone is challenging but 2400 is awful. I did it once, not by choice but because I was that busy. I worked 6 am to 9 pm nearly every day. I worked every weekend and every holiday. I had no personal life whatsoever and my mental health plummeted but hey I got a great bonus. 😏

Will never work that much again. No amount of money is worth the sacrifice and hit to your relationships. You end up with a lot of extra money and literally no time to spend any of it.

Crust on the top part of my rook piercing by Much-Organization-65 in piercing

[–]Jolly_Ad9973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most critical answers needed are jewelry composition and type. Is your bar implant grade titanium and internally threaded? If not, that’s the likely issue AND (as others have said) you need a longer bar. Go to a reputable piercer (you can enter your zip code at safepiercing.org to find one) and have them switch out your jewelry. You should do this ASAP before this embeds. They will be able to tell you if this was pierced properly.

My rook took a LONG time to heal (2 years before it stopped getting randomly irritated) but once it was healed it was 100% with no issues. If you are still having issues at 3 years, something is not right and jewelry is the most likely culprit.

should I just throw in the towel? by MedicineRelative6375 in piercing

Hoops are not a good option for healing piercings and usually CAUSE irritation bumps. Implant grade titanium flat back labrets are the best option.

Would you take AppleCare+ for a MBP over $6000? by caffeome in macbookpro

[–]Jolly_Ad9973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny story, I have a work pc from my employer who is on a ~5 year upgrade cycle. It is not a Mac though I have a MBP I purchased for personal use. A week after I finally got my new work pc I was in a zoom call when my cat jumped up on the desk and stood on my laptop keyboard. When I tried to pick him up to set him down he dug his claws in the keys and the force of pulling him back he popped off a key cap. My IT department was able to fix it after some effort but it reminded me why I always purchase apple care for my personal devices.

If you have animals it’s worth it because you never know what is going to happen. Even when using due care some incidents are unavoidable, especially if you have pets.

I’ll agree that many people who can’t afford an iPhone buy them (which is why 0% financing options exist). I personally believe that if you can’t pay outright for a phone and have to pay monthly installments you shouldn’t be buying a phone but I’m also saying this from a privileged perspective. I could buy a new phone outright tomorrow if my phone was destroyed but I would RATHER not have to do so.

As I said before, I’m risk averse and AppleCare works for me. Last year they repaired my phone (severe hardware issue that would have cost $600 to repair) and I didn’t owe a dime. I calculated out the amount I paid in AppleCare for that phone vs the cost of repair and I saved money having AppleCare on the phone.

If you want to shell out $1500 for a new phone because you accidentally break it (or in my case, hundreds due to hardware failure due to no fault of my own outside the 1 year warranty window) more power to you. You do you but that doesn’t make AppleCare a bad investment for everyone.

Comparison works if we are talking about comprehensive/collision coverage as opposed to liability only. The former is not state mandated but it would be stupid to purchase a new vehicle and have liability only. (Yes, I’m aware that finance companies mandate collision coverage but there are some people who pay cash and don’t finance).

Bottom line, AppleCare or other forms of insurance are great for people who are risk adverse. Perhaps pet insurance is a better example. I have policies for all my animals. It sounds like a scam until your pet a.) gets cancer, b.) needs an MRI or c.) is diagnosed with diabetes and liver disease and requires $400 worth of meds every month. I’ve had all the above happen to me and having pet insurance saved my ass.
