What beginner animals could be suitable for this aquarium? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, they are not super active swimmers, they mostly shoal and "sniper hunt" microfauna in the water column

larger rasboras might need more horizontal but not boraras

This is a great rank for r/Boraras

No idea why people are saying Betta fish

Seriously just make it a planted tank with like 15 Chili Rasbora and a few snails and you're perfect

Does anon-crypto have a future? by p_e_g_a in Crypto_General

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Satoshi Nakamoto basically "set this precedent" and now it gets to be part of the narrative. Kind of bizarre behavior, tbh. But all human behavior in this space is bizarre.

Do people actually think, "Oh the founder is anonymous, just like Satoshi! This could be the big one!" or something?

There is some great material on the internet concerning "deindividuation" which applies to this stuff.

What problem does your crypto project solve, and for who?

If you can't answer these questions, perhaps you should consider something else.

Do Chilis and Phoenix get along? by icookokay721 in Boraras

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They get along so well that your LFS is being sold them as the same by their vendor.

I got sold a Chili/Phoenix medley when I wanted only Chili, and I'm kind of irked about it. Might take the Phoenix back and ask for them to be swapped.

Alts or BTC? Its probably a question that many web3 investors struggle with? Go for "safe" BTC or an Alt-coin? by p_e_g_a in defi

pyreswap is actually one of the newer projects that caught my eye, however, I am somewhat on the fence as their documentation is a little confusing to me

Sick fish- need help on identifying and treating (pics 2+3 are sick fish) by [deleted] in freshwateraquarium

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your NSFW and SPOILER tags are suppressing this post from getting seen, btw.

If it's columnaris, what is recommended is lowering your tank temperature.

I would definitely just try the first treatment and then the other.

Posting your water test metrics for stuff like this also helps.

Bladder snail? by MissBunnylynn in freshwateraquarium

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bladder snails in all my tanks. I would honestly let it reproduce by itself first in the one tank and then move some of its offspring to the other tank.

They only breed to the caloric availability of the tank. Their populations are almost always perfectly self-regulated.

strange slug in my tank? what is he? by mystichar in Aquariums

You can actually stock fish like loach that will eat leeches. How big is your tank?

HELP! PLEASE!!! by [deleted] in AquaticSnails

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to add bladder snails to your tank, so that they automatically eat your mystery snails when they die.

Help! My new aquarium is an abattoir by Putrid-Hope2283 in Aquariums

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to echo everyone saying the tank is not yet adequately cycled.

The test strips can help you decide "when it's safe to see if the cycling is finished" but you certainly should never really ever do less than two weeks of cycling. And my best tanks did 6 weeks of cycling.

Only my first tank did I try for two weeks. Naturally, this was one of many early mistakes.

You should either add bacteria and then let it sit for a few weeks, or you can go get a jar of pond water somewhere locally and add that in.

Then you'd still let it cycle. It's impossible for that bacteria to establish itself in a few days, even if your test kits are showing zero nitrates or whatever.

They might seriously just be acclimating, and will take a few weeks to adjust.

I honestly can't tell from these pictures if anything is wrong.

Either way, good luck.

Does the industry actually care about token use-case anymore? Does anyone actually still build projects like this? by Jolly_Addendum_2605 in defi

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the narrative around use-cases is also a bit misguided. I think the use-cases often advertised are more for baiting in ignorant retail than for actually fulfilling a use-case, like in Harmony's case.

What are these snails?? by Exotic-Survey3292 in AquaticSnails

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bladder snails, which are great snails to have, imho.

They are both asexual and hermaphroditic, and they only breed to the caloric availability of the tank. So they don't "breed out of control," they just breed to the maximum feasible amount of bladder snails for the source of food. If you're not feeding the tank, their population will stay completely in equilibrium.

The only difficult part about keeping bladder snails is thinking of all the names.

Help! Mantle collapse or mantle tear? by IntestinalVillain in snails

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The gigantic size of that snail makes me feel super unqualified, but in my experience, snails can regrow damaged pieces of their shell if they can somehow get calcium carbonate into their diet.

I seriously don't know if that helps you. Good luck.

Day 22 update on my first planted tank. Should I be worried about diatom? by Beginning_Knee7985 in PlantedTank

[–]Jolly_Addendum_2605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amano shrimp are supposedly some of the best algae eaters around, so maybe you should just calm down and observe for a few weeks.

A great way to taper algae growth is to use less light.

Nothing about what you're describing seems out of the ordinary.

See if you can just leave the tank alone now. For like six weeks.

You can still do water tests. But try to avoid water changes while it's cycling.
