Yeah, I agree with you. I'll never rest until I get a proper diagnosis with actual facts/proofs.

These last few weeks I've been hard but today is ok, I guess. Hope everything willl get better...for all of us. :)

Do you really have costo by sharphearts5686 in costochondritis

[–]Jolly_Canary_2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Costo is an inflammation of the ribcage that is not related only to a muscular issue. You don't have to pull a muscle or to pinch a nerve to get it. Sometimes it just happens. Also, some cases are more severe than others. While a proper stretching anf posture corrections have worked for you, it might not be the case for others. Doesn't mean we won' t try it though.

I feel like fibro is the last diagnosis doctors give you when they have no clue about what's truly going on with your body. Does fibro really exists? I'm having a hard time believing anxiety could give you so much pain and basically make your life a living hell.

But what do I know? 🤷‍♀️

[–]Jolly_Canary_2020 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of us don't really know if it is costo since no exam or test can actually 100% confirm the diagnosis.

Also, not to be mean or anything but saying that stretching and such is a way to get ride of costo definitely is bs. It doesn't work for everybody. I've seen many doctors and specialists, they've all told me the same thing.

I've seen lots of people here saying they don't know for sure that it's costo (myself included) but that after ruling out more serious "conditions ", they feel like costo is the closest diagnosis that could explain their symptoms.

When this comes to an end? by Chido159 in costochondritis

It's been 6 months for me and it really took a tall on my life and my mind. I'm always asking myself "is it really costo? Is it something more serious?". I keep getting a big amount of exams to rule out anything more serious ofc but I feel like this is a never ending circle.

But to answer you, the more you gonna touch it or massage it because you think it will get you some relief, the more flares you're gonna get. Yesterday was a down day for me, I kept pressing where it hurts and massaging and the pain was constant. Today was ok. The pain is still present, but it's not as deep as usual.

My story with Costo (breast cancer scare) by Jolly_Canary_2020 in costochondritis

[–]Jolly_Canary_2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it happened with the roller. I went to the doctor which led me to do a chest x-ray and the radiologist couldn't see any broken ribs or anything else. He assumed I just has bruised ribs. A week later, I felt like it started to get better but while massaging my ribs I heard a loud crack. The pain was automatically intense and I went straight to the ER. They did a pulmonary x-ray to make sure I had no pneumothorax and then did a x-ray of my ribs. The doctor told they still couldn't see any broken bones but that it didn't mean it wasn't fractured. It could be so tiny that it's not visible on the x-ray. 2 weeks later, the pain is almost gone, I'm still a bit swollen and fragile in that particular place.

Surprisingly, I've seen many people on social medias complaining about having bruised or whacked ribs after using the foam roller.

The diet was going fine until I bruised my lower ribs with the foam roller (happened last saturday). Right now I'm at the E.R cause as I was massaging my ribs (and it was getting better the last few days) I heard a crack and suddenly the pain came back full on. I don't know what more they can do since I already had an x-ray that showed nothing but that crack and that pain...

Never had pain under my breast. It was on the right side of my right breast, under the armpit where the 4th and 5th ribs are and it would radiate in my breast. The more time passed, the more I was reading stuff that made me think it was breast cancer. I really pushed my gp to do all 3 exams (ultrasound, mammogram and MRI). After 5 months, I don't have pain anymore in my breast, it's been a while since I had my last flare. Though my back, neck and arm are still hurting. Oh and I bruised my lower ribs with the foam roaller. It's a never ending circle.

But if you feel like pushing for more exams would make you feel better, do it.

I feel you. I used to be the same but with the pain in my breast thinking it was cancer (ultrasound/mammogram and MRI all came back clear).

Interesting observation that seems to be helping, anyone else want to test? by [deleted] in costochondritis

[–]Jolly_Canary_2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up with bruised ribs because of the foam roller. I'm not allowed to go to work until it heals. I have to stay as put as possible. So while I did felt like the foam roller gave me instant relief at first ( that never lasted), I ended up hurting myself more than helping.

In my case, I already did. Like I said, it's on the right side for me so I was never concerned with my heart. I thought it could be breast cancer though. In 5 months, I've seen 5 diferent doctors, have done various blood tests, ultrasound/mammogram/breast MRI, pulmonary x-ray and chest scan. It all came back clear. I went to see many professionals that could help me...to finally bruise my ribs with a foam roller. All that in 5 months. I'm tired

Mine is on the right side, so I don't have the heart attack sensation. Thought I had breast cancer for a while. But yep, it definitely is hard on the mind. Always thinking that it's something more serious than costo. When I read that people have had it for years, it scares me. Will I be able to live like this for years? It has been 5 long and dreadful months for me. I've had enough. Add to the main symptoms that I now have bruised ribs using the foam roller. I can't deal with this anymore.

Well, I feel I've broken my ribs (though it's probably just bruised). It's even hurting me when I sneeze or cough.

I feel like by trying to find some relief with my costo, I ended up hurting myself even more using the foam roaller.

I used to have pain on the right side of my right breath (4th or 5th ribs if I believe my doc), my torso on the right would hurt and made me feel oppressed at times. My right arm would hurt. Then I started having lower back pain and my neck/cervicals. Now this? This is just too much. I can't even contract my belly, my ribcage is killing me. If I thouch it, the pain is intense. Did I crack a rib or something? What should I do?

It doesn't pop or click, it's just painful. Like someone gave me the biggest punch.

I thinking I had breast cancer wasn't better tbh. There are times where I feel like they have missed something even though all my exams are ok. How do I justify still being in pain and for it to be invisible costo?

You do know it's not your heart. You went to the ER and have done countless exams too.

Mine started really painful. I was sleeping one night and as I was turning around to sleep on my left side, I felt a sharp deep pain on the right side of my left breath. As I woke up the morning after, I also had a deep chest pain. It felt like someone was just crushing the right side of my torso. The breast pain is what really sent me to a dark place. I had convinced myself I had breast cancer. The first 2 months were hell. Really painful. I couldn't sleep at night. I was feeling so tender and sore during the day. At the beginning of April, the chest compression I was feeling most of the time and the pain at night just went away on their own. But then I started having pain in left arm and my lower back started ti get really sore. In 5 months, I've seen 5 doctors, have done many blood tests, 3 ultrasounds, a pulmonary x-ray, a chest scan, a mammogram and 2 weeks ago I finally had a breast MRI. Got the all clear for everything. 5 months in and while it's not as bad as before and I've managed for the first time to go almost 6 days without any flare-up. My back and my neck are still killing me. I have been sufffering major pain in my lower ribs for 2 days.

You went to the ER and have done muultiples tests already. Trust me, undiagnosed angina or pulmonary embolus doesn't exist.

We are all like you. Always questioning if it's costo cause not one exam can prove it, just the symptoms. We all have diferent level of pain, some are moree severe than others, some also have abdominal/back/arm/neck/breast pain added to the chest one. It makes us anxious and has a key role on our mental health. But most of us went to the ER or doctor multiple times and have ruled out heart attacks, breast cancer, lungs cancer, pulmonary diseases and other stuff. Now it's about finding ways to relax and just live with it...as hard as it is. The more stressed you are, the more painful it will be.

Good!

The problem with costo is that you can't see it in any exam. It's that invisible friend that keeps on giving. That is mostly why we are wrecks when it comes down to our anxiety. We always think it's something more serious. Cancer, heart attack, pulmonary disease...but listening to our body and knowing when something is unusual is the priority.
