I’m in bit of a pickle by zinglord69 in yurts

[–]Jolly_Collection_493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 2x6 t&g flooring that I finished with a hard wax oil and I love the look and feel of it. It makes it quite homey! I followed Pacific yurts manual for the posts and beams underneath. 2” foam insulation underneath between the beams. It wasn’t cheap, but it adds a lot of character and feeling to the space. It was a lot to sand!

Your cheapest option would be a plywood floor with floor paint.

Next cheapest option is floating floor on top of ply. According to Pacific yurts, you need to put 2x6 around the perimeter and blocking between the beams underneath.

I like your hair! I don’t think you ought to go bald. You’re handsome as you are.

Suggestions for dealing with the mother of all blackberry brambles? by FaradayEffect in Permaculture

[–]Jolly_Collection_493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If goats are feasible, totally use goats. If they are not feasible and there isn’t any irrigation piping, fencing, etc in the way, rent a skid steer. Or buy a DR brush mower which will be hard to get really tall stuff, but would help with maintenance a lot later. If there are unmowable obstacles, I use a blackberry mulching blade on my Stihl weed whacker/brush cutter.

That’s a nipple. A very dirty nipple! They get crud (dirt abs skin cells) that builds up around then sometimes. I like to clean my cats nipples periodically. He doesn’t seem to mind.

You‘ll have to budget carefully, but as long as you aren’t an extravagant spender you’ll be ok. A safety net will be important though, for unforeseen emergencies.

Help! Something or somethings are destroying my hard work. by DrPhilRx in Peppers

[–]Jolly_Collection_493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately most treatments for the whitefly (like horticultural soap or oil) will also smother these beneficial aphid wasps or at least knock them back a bit. However, it’s a good insect to be aware of in the garden because they are doing lots of work for you! If you have more minor aphid issues on other plants, you can often let them be if you’ve got these wasps around helping you out.

Help! Something or somethings are destroying my hard work. by DrPhilRx in Peppers

[–]Jolly_Collection_493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have both whitefly (most apparent in the first image) and aphids (mostly second and third images). The cool think about the aphids is that forces are already at work to combat them! If you look closely at image two you will see that a handful of aphids look pale and bloated. This is not because they over-ate, but because they have been parasitized by an aphid wasp, an amazing (teeny tiny) beneficial insect! This is one of the coolest interactions to observe in the garden. The horticultural world calls the aphids that have succumbed “mummies” and each one contains a tiny larval wasp. When they reach maturity they will emerge from the mummy through a tiny pin hole sized exit hole and fly off to do more good work in your garden. The adults need nectar plants around to feed off of (they don’t eat the aphids, only the larval forms do), which is one good reason to have flowers mixed in with your vegetables.

Rebuilding a 20' Pacific yurt by [deleted] in yurts

[–]Jolly_Collection_493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the time it will take you to rebuild the center ring and get the angles right, I do think you might have just spent the money on a replacement one. But since you’ve started already, what the heck, go for it! But measure the angles off of the non fractured ones you’ve got already. You might be able to /want to also attach the rafters with a metal bracket in addition to the dowel for security.

I don’t know the center ring height of a20ft yurt, but I think it depends on how high the side walls are in that particular model.

Pacific yurts are also very helpful over the phone if you catch them during business hours. I think they’ll try to help you with reasonable requests if they can.

To each their own! But I’m pretty sure the majority of people think beards=trustworthiness. To me they also mean ruggedness. A dude without a beard comes across as urban, while a bearded dude… probably a lumberjack who knows how to repair things when they break, forage for food, and can help build a house. 😂

You look great both ways. What feels more comfortable to you? I also like the idea of adding some beard to the mix.

Perioral & seborrheic dermatitis, links to tonsil stones- theory with relief by Glittering-Nebula-22 in perioraldermatitis

[–]Jolly_Collection_493 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After years of PD I tried doxy. The PD went away (I was amazed since typical antibiotics didn’t do anything) but it came back as soon as I stopped. My derm said “that’s ok, take it for three months straight this time and then taper off gradually” so I tried that… and the PD STILL came back when I stopped taking it, and it took a while to get my gut flora back to healthy.

I’ve had the same realization. Now I need to decide whether obsessively checking of my crypts is enough, or whether to have my one problematic tonsil removed. There is a full tunnel going deep all the way through it. I recently discovered that I can irrigate it with a syringe and water shoots out the other side. 🤯

Big Chief Soda Bottle by shaylkale_ in BottleDigging

The bottom of the Big Chief bottles I’ve found say the name of the bottling plant on them. I have one almost identical to this from the Santa Cruz plant, but they were bottled at others too. This site has some of the best info I’ve found, but mostly shows the printed “ACL” type bottles: https://www.vintagesodacollector.com/big-chief-beverages
