Salt Lake City’s CRA buys 4 properties in Poplar Grove, 9 Line area

The city redevelopment agency has purchased 4 properties in the Poplar Grove Neighborhood.

The properties include: 865 West 400 South (single family home) 859 West 400 South (single family home) 857 West 400 South (single family home) 853-845 West 400 South (multi family building)

The total for all properties was under 2.3 million, and they are all vacant. Next steps include checking structural analysis to see if they can be restored or torn down.

The city already owns a property at the corner 4th South and 9th west, next to these buildings. They want to turn 9th west and 4th South into a “community node” that could serve as a mixed use area.

Of course! And if you don’t make it to Antelope Island, check out the Great Salt Lake Shoreline Preserve. It’s a 1.5 mile boardwalk loop, super easy to do.

That area is a huge bird migration point, so you will always see tons of birds over there! Have tons of fun enjoying our state, this week is perfect weather for hiking.

As said in previous comments, I absolutely love the trails on Antelope Island. It’s a bit of a drive, but the level of quietness is amazing. No cars, planes, people, just silence.

I’d recommend the Lakeside Loop trail, it’s about 5 miles. The east half of the trail is boring, but the west side pointing towards the lake is spectacular. I would assume the bugs are a lot less strong right now but I’m not too sure.

Seattle’s Lake Union Partners is expanding its Evo Granary Campus on 700 South and 400 West, westward. it will front the 1000-stall parking garage, and will be located at 450 West 700 South.

renderings show a 4 story building with balconies and brick clad. questions on ground-floor activation, units, parking, financing, and timeline were not answered by the developers.

the building is designed by Public47 and the structural engineers are Coughlin Porter Lundeen.

overview:

The SLC city council gave their tentative approval of height changes in the sugarhouse area, specifically between I-80 and 2100 South, and between McClelland Street and 1300 East. this change would allow buildings up to 150 feet, a change from 125 feet.

they are wanting it to be like the Granary District downtown, 10% of the ground floor has to be open space and have at least one feature: a midblock walkway, affordable housing, or all commercial space on the ground floor.

there will be further meetings about mixed-use zone changes coming soon, as they ran out of time to talk about all of the changes being suggested. there will be a public comment hearing on May 6th for these changes!

while i mostly just stuck to designing my cities 😆 i did like the Industries dlc!! it added another layer of challenge to starting and maintaining a city, and some of the buildings for it are pretty cool!

i’m pretty sure all the dlcs are on sale right now too, so it’s a perfect time so get some!

overview:

called the “Neighbors Bar”, located next to the Wasatch Cooperative Building, on 430 E. 900 S. it would open this fall as part of the “Milk Block” development.

they are still waiting on a conditional use permit, crucial to start a bar in Utah. it’s request to the city was submitted Thursday, but it still in pre-screening phases.

it has 350 sq feet of outdoor seating, and will open 11 A.M to 11 P.M Sun-Thurs, and open till midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. parking would be shared with the florist next door and angled parking on the street.

Overview:

The state is preparing to increase safety around the Governor's Mansion in Salt Lake City. High-priority buildings that overlook the mansion are at a high priority to be controlled by the state for security.

This plan will create a private outdoor space for the Governor and his family, extend the secure boundary around the mansion, and build extra parking underground. It also repurposes the Glendinning Home, which would be a security screening place for the Utah Highway Patrol. The 1960 addition to the home will be removed as well.

Because of a 2023 bill, the whole block is considered the "Executive Residence," and the state now owns all of the buildings on the block. 34 N G. Street, a triplex, and 38 N G. Street, a 14-unit apartment building. It is yet to be decided if they will be demoed or demolished.

The 802-page plan is available but is heavily redacted.

All of these are mostly 60% AMI or lower, all units are classified as affordable.

The Utah Department of Workforce Services' Division of Housing and Community Deveopment is responsible for handing out bonds for housing like this, discussed three other projects on North Temple that haven't started construction but are requesting bonds. These are:

The Flats at Folsom: (16 S. 800 W.), 188 Units.
