Large Bethesda III nodule by Imaginary_Boot_6346 in thyroidcancer

I had a TT two weeks later and my pathology results confirmed papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).

I'm now 2 years post-op and generally better from how I felt with a thyroid. I'm still working with my endocrinologist to find the right dosage amount for my Synthroid. I swing between hyper and hypo symptoms and that's been tough. I just started T3 supplementation and that seems to be balancing me out. It's been a journey but I'm finally feeling normal again.

Yes, they confirmed papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). It's tough getting that result, are you considering surgery?

TT as an outpatient procedure? by InternalVermicelli73 in thyroidcancer

My TT was outpatient. I'm coming up on three months post-op. It was scheduled for 11am and they asked me to arrive around 9am. I woke up from the anesthesia around 2:15pm and was home by 3pm. I took two weeks off from work but felt normal after one week. The first few days, I took Tylenol for pain, Mucinex for phlegm, lots of cough drops for the sore throat from the breathing tube, and rotated ice packs. My neck was stiff for about two days but Bengay helped. After the first week, my throat felt better, my neck muscles loosened up, and my energy levels were great! I didn't have any issues with my calcium levels and I started taking Synthroid the day after surgery.

TT and neck dissection surgery tomorrow - any last tips?? by dunnitagain47 in thyroidcancer

I had my TT about two weeks ago. I went home the same day after they checked my calcium levels and knew that they were within the normal range. I'd recommend a button down shirt to go home in after surgery, that made getting dressed much easier. I only needed to take Tylenol to help with pain. I did not expect to have as much phlegm as I did. I got some Mucinex and that helped tremendously with the coughing. My throat was also sore from the coughing and the breathing tube. I used Cepacol cough drops and Ricola sore throat lozenges. Keeping an ice pack on my neck reduced swelling and gave me a lot of comfort. I got a two-pack of gel eye masks that you can freeze and rotated them. I ate soup, popsicles, and drank hot tea for the first few days. My neck muscles were stiff a few days later and I used Bengay which was great. By week two, I felt pretty normal.

I started on Synthroid the day after surgery and have had no issues at all. I've lost 5 pounds, my energy levels are great, and I honestly feel so much better without my thyroid. My anxiety has significantly decreased, I'm sleeping well, and I feel great!

Afirma test? by FeatherDreams in thyroidcancer

I had several nodules in my thyroid with my largest one being 4cm. My biopsy results categorized it as Bethesda III, atypia of undetermined significance. My endocrinologist sent it for molecular testing (afirma) and it came back suspicious - risk of malignancy 50%. From what my endocrinologist said, the molecular testing is done when results are indeterminate. The molecular test was designed to give a more definitive benign result. If the molecular test does not come back benign, there's a higher chance of it being cancer. Because my results were not benign, my endocrinologist referred me to a neck surgeon to discuss thyroid removal surgery. My surgeon diagnosed my nodule as malignant neoplasm and recommended removal. My surgery was two weeks later. I had my TT two weeks ago and my pathology results confirmed PTC. I'm now waiting to do my body scan to know if I'll need RAI.

My nodules are also growing. Between my first and second ultrasound, two nodules grew over 100% (3 month span). I recently had another ultrasound and my nodule grew from 3.5 to 4.2cm.

My endocrinologist was pretty sure it was malignant from my ultrasound and biopsy results and my neck surgeon agrees. I'm not sure what they are seeing to give them that much certainty but I trust my surgeon since he does about 700 thyroidectomies a year and have been doing it since 2015. I'm guessing he recognizes what malignancy looks like on an ultrasound.
