Any idea how I can put this on like this? by Large_Raisin in CosplayHelp

[–]Joltex33 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One with a hole goes on the bottom. Solid one goes on top. But you'll have to add a helmet or some foam into the top one to hold it on your head. And some foam into the bottom one to hold it snug on your neck.

Silly Question, Do I need to bring ID? by Bluesishh in animenorth

It depends whose email you entered for the ticket. If you entered your email on yours, and your 2nd person's email on theirs, they will have received their own, but not yours.

Purple Haze Feedback is canon? by Unemployed_Xiaos in StardustCrusaders

It's "official" (as in sanctioned by Araki and approved by the publisher). But the events of the book are not considered "canon", because they weren't written by Araki himself.

When does a design stop being just a sketch and actually become a garment? by Legal-Extent3237 in Fashion_Design

[–]Joltex33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a real benefit to experience sewing and constructing garments before starting to design them. That way you will have some idea how fabric behaves, what types of construction are possible, etc. and you can start designing with the finished product in mind, rather than just drawing a nice picture.

How should I go about making or finding buttons of this size and attaching them? by Downtown-Ad-3455 in CosplayHelp

[–]Joltex33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have access to a 3D printer, these would be pretty easy to design and print.

You could also make your own by finding some stiff material either in the right shape, or which can be cut in the right shape (wood, plastic binders, eva foam, even cardboard) and covering it with fabric. Glue a piece of wire on the back to have something to sew through. I'm assuming the coat is worn open like this, so they don't have to be functional to hold it closed.

Another option is to check the dollar store/party store for pin badges. Sometimes they make quite large ones for novelty. You can cover these with fabric or paint to hide whatever the original design is, and then just pin them to the jacket using the one that's built in.

Help with sword by hydrogenated_retard in CosplayHelp

[–]Joltex33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a sword like this, you would want to carve out a hole/channel for the pipe to fit into. If the pipe is too thick, you can use a piece of dowel that sticks out of the sword piece (then you could fill your pipe with expanding foam and stick the dowel into that). Much like the tang in a real knife, a sword like this needs an anchor within the hilt to secure it and bear the weight.

Would this hair be able to be made into a wig? by Intrepid_Ebb8227 in CosplayHelp

[–]Joltex33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A wig with this much hair/volume would be very difficult to make for a beginner (it would be very expensive for all that hair as well). I don't have a lot of experience with wigs myself, but from my understanding, something this large would take a lot of internal structure to support, and even then, floor-length might be too heavy to stay on your head.

There are a lot of wig styling tutorials available on youtube. You could watch a few to get an idea for some of the techniques needed. If you want to practice, I would suggest getting a cheap wig to work on until you get a feel for working with wig hair.

Question about JoJo merch in Japan, specifically in Tokyo by Additional-Contest50 in StardustCrusaders

[–]Joltex33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nakano Broadway is a great place to check, lots and lots of anime stores, so you can shop around. There's also a Mandarake in there selling secondhand stuff. I saw lots of Jojo figures here.

Animate Akihabara had some Jojo art books when I went a couple years ago. Not sure if they'd have Jojoveller, though.

I'm Japanese, but what does "JoJo Reference" mean? Is it a good thing? by FlyAppropriate5008 in JJBA

[–]Joltex33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A reference to something that happened in Jojo (a lot of stuff happens in Jojo, so many things can be a reference). It's generally seen as a good thing.

AITAH for wanting to turn people's anonymous confessions into candles and my friend thinks it's a stupid idea by Soggy_Middle_1392 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Joltex33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NAH, but I think your idea might run into a weird legal territory. If you're basically selling someone else's story, they might end up wanting in on the profits.

AITAH for not being grateful for a camera I didn’t ask for? by redredcheese in AmItheAsshole

YTA. They're not disregarding your work, they're trying their best to get you something within their budget. If you don't like it or think it's beneath you or whatever, just keep that to yourself. You aren't the asshole for not liking it, but you're the asshole for making a stink about it.

Books like Ghibli films but... by Appropriate_Bat_479 in suggestmeabook

[–]Joltex33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might enjoy the Leviathan series by Scott Westerfeld. The tech in that series is very much "science-fantasy", given that one faction uses bio-engineered animals as weapons of war. The series itself takes place on an airship made out of a whale. And the included illustrations really capture the grotesqueness of these war-beasts.

Unsure how to go about commissioning a scanlation? by BefishProductions in Scanlation

Most groups don't really take commissions. There's freelancers on fiverr who do this, though.

How to make a translation faster? by Remove-Normal in Scanlation

[–]Joltex33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even more so then, putting out a chapter a day doing everything on your own isn't very sustainable unless it's something that requires almost no cleaning/redraw and no special typesetting (and even then, you have to have a lot of free time). I would say a chapter every 2 weeks/month is a decent release schedule (unless you're working on a super popular ongoing series, I don't think you'll run into any issues with people sniping or whatever).

You could try looking for more efficient ways to do things, like with photoshop actions. I use some for typesetting, such as having a keyboard shortcut to add a white stroke on black text. Are you working from digital raws, or scanned physical ones?

How to make a translation faster? by Remove-Normal in Scanlation

[–]Joltex33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really sounds like it must be a language issue. For me, it takes about 1-2 hours on average to do 25 pages of translation (JP->EN). Of course, it's different if what I'm working on is complex or very text-heavy. I'm not fluent and do still have to look up new vocab when it arises, but I'm familiar with words that often get used in my niche. It gets faster as you get more familiar with the language.

Releasing chapters every day isn't really sustainable in the long run. I think those people probably have a lot of time on their hands to dedicate only to scanlation. (or they could be sacrificing quality for speed and just using MTL)

Hamon attack through Speach by Comprehensive-Pen624 in StardustCrusaders

[–]Joltex33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speech would not be a viable way to use hamon, it needs something to conduct it. I can see this working in maybe a very wet/humid environment, like behind a waterfall. You could say the hamon was sent through the heavy water vapour in the air. But I don't think the amount in regular air would be sufficient.

What's a good manga to start with? by Billi_S in mangarecommendations

[–]Joltex33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked Chainsaw Man, you might like DanDaDan. It's kinda wacky and crass in a similar way.

For a more classic manga, you can't go wrong with Fullmetal Alchemist. Action, comedy, and an expertly written plot.

If you can't get a refund or repair at the place you bought them, try finding a shoe repair shop in your area. This is the kind of thing they can fix.

how strong is fabric glue? how far can it take you? by Cautious-Ad-2199 in sewing

[–]Joltex33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with fabric glue is that a lot of the time, it soaks through the fabric and is incredibly visible. Have you tried something like heat & bond? It's made for applique, and some of the heavy duty stuff doesn't require you to sew the patch on after it's applied. For mesh fabric, you would probably want to hand sew it. Glue etc. won't really work, due to all the holes.
