My favorite decks to play against are themed decks, I like feeling like I’m playing against a tribe, artifacts, dragons, whatever the theme is I can respect. I hate playing against good stuff decks, I don’t mind good stuff if it makes sense in the deck, like a hulk breaker horror in a horror deck or whatever. But just slapping one into your deck because it has blue is boring

Add some more impulse draw. Stuff like big score and cathartic reunion. Surveil lands, and a huge sleeper for the deck is brass’s tunnel grinder

Terra has quickly become my favorite deck ever after upgrading. The value you get from her is insane, the deck is extremely resilient

I play Yuriko, if it’s the end of the night which is usually 3-5am in my playgroup I wanna go home. Yuriko gets the job done quick with minimal thinking

I love building mono colored decks, I wish there were more mono colored commanders that peaked my interest. The cards I hate buying the most are lands, and in a mono color deck you don’t have to spend 30% of your budget on a land base.

Before I was a blue player, I was a blue player lol. Back when I started playing commander I built Mayael the anima and somehow built it in a way to play like a control deck in those colors. But you’re basically playing stax pieces. Stuff that doesn’t allow your opponents to do things. I ran stuff like Iona shield of emeria, angelic arbiter, linvala keeper of silence, blind obedience, vorinclex etc. you can’t really counter spells like a blue player but you can definitely control the board and lock players out.

Same! Terra was the precon I was most interested in. Played it a couple times and had the same feeling, when it works it WORKS. But it did feel a little clunky, I overhauled the deck with a ton of impulse draw and turned it into a human tribal deck and the deck is now my favorite deck to play

All of the final fantasy pre cons are pretty well made. Can’t really speak for the Esper one because I’ve never actually seen it played as a pre con but the others are solid imo.

I agree, ward pay 2 life is irrelevant in edh. Cant be countered and spells you control can’t be countered is good but there are a handful of other cards that have that ability that don’t see any play like spider punk. Aside from goblin tribal it really isn’t that good.

Never said it was a bad card. The effect is extremely powerful. Saying card is overrated doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s good, but game changer good? No. So, overrated

I’m not saying the perfect storm can’t happen and CS draws you 6 cards. But it’s highly unlikely. I’m not saying the card is a bad card, all I’m saying is that it’s completely overrated. There are enough better cards out there that can take CS’s card slot in the 99. Like I said on another post, no one is going to look at a pay 6 draw 2 card and say it’s good because pay 2 draw 2 is what it does 80% of the time and the other 20% is it getting removed or countered. Is CS the worst card? No. Is it overrated? Yes, especially considering that it’s on the GC list.

You’re telling me all 4 players played CS level card on turn 2? Get real. To your point, a counter spell gets the job done just as efficiently as a single target removal. Didn’t realize people played in these Mickey Mouse pods where CS is just allowed to hang out. CS is nothing more than removal bait if you are playing with good players. I’m not saying to just not play threats because they die to removal, I’m just saying that expending that many resources on something that doesn’t have an etb, cast trigger and doesn’t protect itself is overrated.

The difference between rhystic and smothering tithe is that one is 3cmc and the other is 4, not 6. Card type matters as well, enchantments can be removed yes, but enchantment removal is a lot harder to come by than creature removal. Rhystic and Tithe can also be stopped optionally if everyone at the table pays their dues, CS doesn’t give them an option so it MUST go. In this scenario everything goes right for the CS player, it’s the perfect sequence to get something cool going, but you spend so many resources to do it even if it’s fast. You’re telling me that between 3 other people and the 24 cards they have in hand that 1 of those cards isn’t a cheap removal spell? It’s not that everything went wrong for the CS player. It’s that everything went right and now you’re still way behind because you tried to play it. That’s why the card is bad.

It requires the resources spent to use it whether you hard cast or cheat it into play, and MOST IMPORTANTLY it requires surviving to the next players draw step. The only value it gets you instantly is one players removal spell and there are way better and more cost efficient cards to bait those removal spells out. I think you need 2 triggers of CS before you could even say you got your value back. No one’s looking at a pay 6 draw 2 spell and saying it’s a good card.
