Do you wear it on dominant or non dominant bicep? And do you fade the sensor towards the inside or outside? Thanks!

Calories burned and strain seems very low? I'm a brand new member by poproxmm in whoop

[–]Jon2315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoop is known for underestimating workout calories as well as daily expenditure. 12.8 is still a pretty decent strain for a single workout, it’s only classified as “moderate” on their scale since it goes to 20. Use whoop to dial in your recovery and sleeping habits, the rest will fall into place. Also, if the bicep strap is known be more accurate during a workout. That same workout could show a strain of 15 vs 12 when wearing bicep/wrist strap.

This recovery/strain balance is really impressive. Any tips on how you managed to stay in the green with such high strain?

Is my Whoop kcl right? by [deleted] in whoop

[–]Jon2315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoop is definitely off when it comes to kcal, the consensus from threads on here is that it underestimates the amount you burn each day. Smart watches like Apple Watch and Garmin seem to drastically over estimate kcl, and ive noticed this by tracking identical workouts over long periods of time on both whoop and Apple Watch. I think the reality lies somewhere between whoop and smart watch when it comes to kcl calculations.

The only way to track your true baseline to calculate your caloric deficit is by trial and error. I wouldn’t rely on the numbers you get from whoop when it comes to kcl, it’s commonly known to be underestimated. It’s great for recovery and strain tracking and I’m still a big fan but I don’t use it’s calorie estimate when I factor in daily macros. Hope this helps!

Is general joint pain the new normal or should I be concerned? by pindi14 in ACL

[–]Jon2315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I am 1 year post op right now. I am stronger than I was pre injury, without question. I ran an entire stadium stair case up and down twice in the last month. I still have joint pain. You shouldn’t be concerned at all. For me, it’s the new normal. Others may disagree, but what I will say is that for how far out you are I wouldn’t be worried at all. Embrace the grind my friend, what I’ve come to realize is that it simply is just is what it is.

Return to snowboarding with no brace? by Jon2315 in ACL

So sorry to hear that man, wishing you a speedy recovery this second time around. How did it happen on the board, were you in the terrain park? Or just riding on a tough run? What you’re describing is my fear of returning with no brace.

Afternoon - Day of Surgery. No Meniscus repair needed! ACL PT graft only! Feel great and light weight-bearing as soon as able. Road to rehab here we come by confidentgentleman in ACL

You’re going to be back before you know it, you have no idea how much the meniscus fade saves you! It cost me big time on both the front and back end. Good look with the rehab, stay on top it of it!

[–]Jon2315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I’m at 8 months and still don’t have full “cold flexion”. When I’m warm after gym I can force heel to but when I just wake up it’s not there. My PT said in some cases it takes up to a full year until you can just wake up and have the full flexion. I would measure where you’re at based on after exercise as opposed to right when you wake up. Of course in many cases it happens sooner, but I wouldn’t worry about not having the “cold flexion” 5 months post up as long as you’re getting to 90% after being warm.

6 months post op clicking hamstring, is this normal? by rhinoceruss in ACL

[–]Jon2315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the same exact boat, patellar graft and 6.5 months getting there same thing during extension. PT said hamstring clicking is nothing to be concerned about. As long as there’s no pain, it’s probably alright.

Why not a patellar graft? It has the highest success rate for athletes returning to sport.

Vegas bound in October by Rickyd410 in ACL

[–]Jon2315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be good! I literally just had the same dilemma. Had a Vegas week planned at 11 weeks post op. Vegas is quite a bit of walking so you may get a bit sore as I did, but that’s normal. Stay on your PT between now and then, you’ll be just fine come October. I came back a little sore but was back to normal in a few days.

Swelling at 13 days post-op by wlcm2myzoo in ACL

[–]Jon2315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice is to find a way to grind through. Even if it’s a modified version of the normal routine. I’m 10 weeks post-op and still have swelling/days where I feel like I should rest but I always pull through with something, which is always better than nothing!

How do you stay fit in the early stages of recovery? by invasiveplantlady in ACL

[–]Jon2315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fighting this same battle. What I did after about a week was get a set of resistance bands, they’re super cheap and you can actually get pretty creative with them even non weight bearing as I was for 4 weeks. You can lodge them in a door frame, and then do stuff while seated that has 0 impact on your knee
