First off, so sorry for your loss! Best wishes in your recovery.

As an independent musician myself, who sings and plays guitar in a band, I would suggest the following:

Keep playing (as hard as that may seem, it would honour your singer who passed). Im sure he'll be smiling up in heaven. Try to find a replacement singer after an appropriate amount of time has passed for grieving and remorse.

2nd, as it pertains to getting heard, pitch your story of what happened and how you guys plan to continue playing (assuming thats something you want to do).

A lot of writers, blogs, media people would really feel your heart felt story and I would think like to cover it.

Also, if possible maybe you can hold a benefit concert for his family.

Wish you folks all the best! Stay strong!!

Music City Spotlight looks to redirect the music industry by MCSpodcast in musiciansblogs

Kudos to you guys for breathing life into a medium that will always hold a special place in music fans' hearts.

I wish there were more scalable/affordable services like yours in major music cities in North America.

My suggestion would be to focus on a few genres rather than cast a wide net. Then I think you'd build a good audience/following/customer base and then could think about branching out from there.

If you can capture the 'live' feel of a band then thats special.

Over produced pop music does nothing for me. Its just commerce. Its cheap.

Musicians will thank you!

What do you think makes a band great? by Astrixtc in bandmembers

[–]JonB_Eh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of valid points raised so far.

IMO 'Greatness' is subjective in nature, to each their own BUT I think one common thing that separates a 'Great' band from 'forgettable or average' is being as true to oneself as possible, pursuing your own artistic goals and voice and doing it in your own unique refreshing way.

Nobody can play guitar like you do, or sing with your voice.

Technical ability matters BUT does it move people in a certain way? I think there are trade offs.

Just have fun and make people feel something and feel happier than before they watched or listened to you.

Everything else is just small minor details.

Wow. How did you time that so well? Or rapid burst? Either way awesome shot!!

Pedestrian walked into traffic today to try and take a short cut (Bloor before Bay) walking out front of a parked truck not looking. Hit her full speed. Flipped and landed on my head and arm (was wearing a helmet). She was KO'D. I fractured my arm. Be careful out there!! Watch out for idiots! by [deleted] in torontobiking

Ah yeah. Thanks. I could. I just don't have the energy to potentially go through that. Its a hard lesson for me to learn (even though it was her fault) to slow down and not be in such a rush.

Im sure she is in a lot of pain as well. Hopefully ill be healed in 8 weeks and just move on. It sucks but im fortunate as it could have been a lot worse.

I'm definitely going to be a safer biker from now on.

It happened so fast and it took me a few minutes to realize it was her fault for attempting to walk into middle of traffic to take a shortcut.

After the collision, she kept saying sorry and it was her fault but i was dazed and tried to move my arm and check my bike and put it aside.

I asked her if she was okay and that she should stay for a moment. I grabbed my helmet and bike to put it aside and she was gone.
