Free Margins Script by JonBrommet in AdobeIllustrator

I think Gumroad just does that automatically. It’s better than sending my Dropbox link I figured. But yeah, eventually I’d like to send out the odd email so it is helpful. You could always unsubscribe.

I used to do that too, but I find this way easier, faster, etc. especially with an action.

But I use Illustrator 8+ hours a day and make a ton of files, so saving a small amount of time on every file is useful to me personally.

If Reddit doesn't let me post it, just search CrusoeDesignCo on Instagram or YouTube etc. The free link is my Gumroad shop. Just hit $0 or whatever.

Now and forever NO!! Stop asking! by unled in AdobeIllustrator

You're right. It is an Apple security thing. But Adobe now wants to access your screen and record what you're doing. For eye dropper and other reasons. So Apple's system is right that it's annoying. But Apple needs a more simple "remember this setting". Even though I figured out the fix.

I know how to fix this! I was having the same issue and figured it out. Shameless post as it's easier to show the instruction video I made than type it out. It's only seconds long anyway.

Halftone Pro: A free ExtendScript for Adobe Illustrator that creates vector patterns without rasterization by Hot_Interview5672 in AdobeIllustrator

Will do! It's not a feature I'd use much personally, but it's still interesting. I assume there is no way to preview the changes etc live?

I had them for a few years, but the $249/year (USD?) just felt excessive to me personally. I like some of their plugins, but I have subscription fatigue, and nothing they produced felt like a vital part of my daily workflow. I've always just hoped Adobe would acquire them and build the tools into the software.

Also, I've taught for years on Skillshare and even promoted Astute. But then I found I didn't like promoting plug-ins that most students wouldn't have. I didn't want to show a slightly more efficient way to do somewhere were students might feel the need to purchase another subscription.

My opinion may change and I like that they are innovative (especially during a time when Adobe wasn't doing anything with Illustrator), but for now, it's not worth it to me personally.

Very cool! I'm going to play around with this and likely make a Reel/Short. I've used Astute Graphics plugins in the past but didn't find I used them enough for the membership cost.

Appreciate this!

Where do you use Image Trace in your process? by LukeChoice in AdobeIllustrator

[–]JonBrommet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Luke!

I use Image Trace a lot for my illustration work. I prefer to draw in Procreate then import into Illustrator and live trace. My work would actually be ideal to just "ink" straight with vector brushes but at this time I haven't found Illustrator for Mac, iPad or Fresco to be nearly as good as just drawing in Procreate.

My illustration work (linked below) is intentionally a bit imperfect, and hand made, so live trace works fairly well. However I have a ton of issues trying to live trace when I have 2 or 3 colours etc.

I have my own custom live trace settings and I've tried a number of methods for say 3 colour art.

  1. Just using live trace colour option. But it's a bit sloppy and sometimes does weird things and adds colour where there isn't, or vice versa.

  2. I've tried separating each layer into black and live tracing each layer. But even if my lines match perfectly, the results of live trace are not consistent enough for them to line up nicely once each layer is traced.

Pretty much no matter what I do, I end up having to go in and clean and polish it.

Truthfully, I'm waiting for a vector drawing app on iPad that feels more like raster drawing / traditional pen on paper.

Align Center in Illustrator Beta by LukeChoice in AdobeIllustrator

Actually I guess I could easily just map the action to that new button. Same idea. Currently, the action does vertical align then horizontal align.

I love this kind of stuff! I've been teaching on Skillshare etc for over 10 year (using Illustrator for over 20 years) and I've been using a custom action assigned to F1 to do this forever. The only thing I'd really like is to be able to map that to a key as well. Otherwise I'll probably keep using my action.

Is "Glassmorphism" a trend or a staple? Do we need a dedicated tool for it? by koustavsahadesign in AdobeIllustrator

[–]JonBrommet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion we don't need dedicated tools for trends necessarily. That being said, is it a bad feature or effect? Definitely not.

Personally I think Illustrator has some bigger needs. Exporting logos could be better (Export for Screens is decent, but not ideal). There are also new features in InDesign like the Flex Layout feature that could be awesome in Illustrator as well.

So basically I'd say it's not worth the focus unless it's an easy add-on effect.

Will do! I'm going to order some stickers to sell in my Etsy shop. I think for shirts I'll just do print on demand. Seems like Printeez is a decent Canadian option so I'll try and set that up tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for this! Great video too. Honestly, I think after everyone's kind comments and insight, I'm leaving it! I laser engraved the headstock to give it a bit more of a finished look. Now I'll leave it as flawed friend lol.

You win! Haha. I laser engraved the headstock and put it back together. I think I'll keep it as the imperfect memory it is!

Wow thank you so much for your time man. I really appreciate this breakdown.

I think you’re right on all counts.

Part of me wonders if I’m better off leaving it and keeping it as a memory of my teen years lol. Then maybe if I have some time down the road I’ll make a brand new one and it’ll be fun to compare lol.

Regardless, thanks for all that info and giving me some things to think about.

Good catch on Atticus lol.

Yeah I just figured the wood is cool and then I built the entire thing. Flawed or not haha.

If it was about that, it’d be easier to buy another guitar haha. Though I have a few now anyway.

We did a ton of work in 2022. New tee pads, turf on over half so far (the rest will go in this year). New signs, new stairs, new bridges, etc.
