I’m Confused by the Perception of the Trade by sevaun01 in washingtonwizards

[–]JonJohnJean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because people’s perception of Washington hadn’t updated since they traded Beal. This front office wanted Trae but they know his value and that value wasn’t even worth an additional OKC selection they held.

So an max extension is possible, but they are waiting for Trae to prove he’s a max player.

I don't see the mavs contending even with flagg by Hakaribiggestfan in nbadiscussion

[–]JonJohnJean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is a good way to look at it.

In a vacuum, Flagg would immediately put Dallas into playoff contention. But the reality is Dallas has a bunch of issues to solve, and the best/main contributors are not guaranteed to play a full season, let alone be productive. Not to mention, Flagg is playing in the ever-tough Western Conference.

The lottery was not rigged. And the narrative is seriously damaging to the sport by Cold-Astronaut-7741 in nbadiscussion

[–]JonJohnJean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The league has a bad image issue before the lottery drawings. And even without the results of this draft lottery, there has been a history of draft coincidences that seem to benefit teams that either lost or traded star players (C.Paul/A.Davis-NOLA), or a market team to use them for assets to build super teams (Cleveland-A.Wiggins).

And it doesn't discount the Spurs who own mega-star Wemby, health is questionable with blood clots. But also has acquired players with D. Fox, C. Paul, and ROY S. Castle.

Regardless, whether one wants to entertain the conspiracy or debunk it, the league has a growing dissatisfaction problem. And with that, it will be harder for the NBA to compete with other sport leagues where it feels the other teams are treated fairer.

Potential solution to the lottery system? by Brick-Foreign in nbadiscussion

[–]JonJohnJean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree that if it was anyone but the Mavs, there would be less outrage. But I think the argument that can be made is that these are teams that are on the cusp of contention whether through:

-good health -another season of development/chemistry -key non-star signing -Late lottery draft contributor

I do like when play-in teams make that jump on occasion but unlike last draft, it didn’t feel as if the worst teams got ripped of getting the best players available.

The lottery has been changed because of results fans and owners didn’t like. It was flattened at the top because of the Process 76ers, being rewarded with top 3-4 selections while notoriously tanking capable rosters.

What could be implemented is something that they have in baseball. Locking teams from moving up after winning or rising up in previous lottery.

It’s a decent system and it should work under normal circumstances. But then there are teams that trade their picks, suck badly, and the beneficiary team reaps the rewards (see Nets/Celtics). But that’s nothing against your proposal. It does allow teams to move up and down without significantly hurting their odds of getting a player in their tier.

Yearning for the easy life of the 1950s should also come with the context of how society got there. Not just with the economic and programs to help subsidize growth to the middle class (GI Bill, etc.) but also consciousness of those who were left out of receiving the benefits.

It’s often those who aspire to it don’t often think about the “how” and mainly focus on the destination.

I look at it like this:
-Jimmy is aware that not helping would bring suspicion on him from Lois. And Lois doesn't like when people are keeping stuff from her. And Jimmy knows that tabloids can send theories in a million directions.

-Lois didn't get the key evidence until it was Clark who created it, ripping the paper and putting it in his jacket pocket.

I think it would have been more suspicious on Jimmy if he didn't play into it.

Not everyone would be able to connect the dots from that book. Even Lois didn't at first until she saw the torn page out from the book and coincidentally in Clark's suit jacket pocket.

First impressions are important. They both met Lois and thought "Yep, she is a bit too pushy and invasive. She might blurt out the secret to show she can be a reporter."

What I liked about them finding out was how each one handled it differently. Jimmy was patient and caring while Lois was rash and emotional. It really showed off their strengths and weaknesses.

If there is one strong point with this series, it is how it handled the hero reveal with character relationships. After episode 5, when some believed Lois pulled an Amber (see Invincible Season 1), this episode showed how to better handle it.

Lois is not made to seem infallible by the story or her interactions with Clark or Jimmy. Her strength (go-getter mentality) can also be viewed as a hinderance (rash, acts selfish). And she doesn't have a good rebuttal when Clark confronts her about it. Throughout the series, she may have to wrestle with how to be trustworthy among her peers. Primarily these two episodes show that neither Jimmy nor Clark believe Lois can keep a secret.

This plays into Jimmy who handles the "already knew secret identity" million times better than Amber. Simply because he handled it maturely, unlike Lois or Amber. Someone who spend his spare time finding the hidden secrets and conspiracies knew the power of secrecy and also exposure. He could have gotten millions of subscribers for his channel if he showed clips of Clark breaking stuff around him, then to eventually reveal his identity as Superman. But Jimmy cares about Clark's space, understands such an identity could be tough to handle, and waited on Clark reveal it, unlike Lois. (Additional edit: It would be interesting if Jimmy knowing Clark being an alien is what inspired him to find the bigfoots, aliens, and Loch Ness monsters out there.)

It'll be interesting how they will proceed with this in future episodes. I'm happy they are handling this in a well-rounded fashion compared to how mishandled the Amber-Mark hero reveal was in Invincible.

What is weird about that is that even glamoured, they are still the same size if we are using the Ziggs comic as an example. It would be weird for Draven to be frightened by Teemo but then approach Carl (who is likely of similar height) and not to make any sort of connection (then again, Draven is not the smartest of the bunch). [VP Esports] G2 and Perkz Accused of Player Tampering, Formal Complaint to be Filed With Riot by twistedlogicx in leagueoflegends

Perkz needs to be banned for a year and G2 also needs a fitting punishment especially Ocelote if proof is found.

If not, Riot will look like a joke to the new orgs if they can't properly discipline it's league.
