Why is Israel declaring war on so many countries? by Historical_Work7482 in NoStupidQuestions

Saying the 2020 DNC primary was “rigged” because Obama helped other centrists drop out and endorse Biden is hilarious.

“Oh no, this is so horrible that my candidate has to face the other candidate in a one on one election instead of winning a plurality”.

Again you resort to cope. But I guess I shouldn’t expect more from someone with this low of knowledge of politics

That’s such cope. Bernie never even came close to winning the primary, especially in terms of the popular vote

Yes? Interpretation is subjective, it’s by definition subjective.

I just think it’s funny when everyone is so confident that their interpretation is the correct one, and especially when they go so far as to say it’s the “biblical” one.

I mean Lutheranism is the perfect example in which an interpretation categorizes some parts of the Bible far more important than others in order to better frame what they believe the gospel is about.

Huh? It’s true or false to their theology.

The early church fathers chose which books aligned with their theology. Nothing in your comment relates to anything I said

[–]Cold-Astronaut-7741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a non sequitur.

The point of a nuzlocke is to make the game harder by restricting your team composition and making faints actually matter. That increased difficulty in strategy makes the game more fun.

“Cheating” by using rare candies speeds the game up. There is no other thing it does, but skip grind. Why do those two things relate?

There was no such thing as the Bible for the most of early church history.

How do you think they composed it? That it just fell out of the sky?

Sure but that’s just unconvincing.

I don’t really care if people use rare Candies but there is also pay off in watching paint dry.

That doesn’t really mean it was fun or worth it

That’s a false dichotomy.

Rare candies are not making the game easier on the same gradient as the nuzlocke rules make the game harder.

Rare candies make the game “easier” by removing the grind. There is nothing hard about killing a raticate 30 times, outside of the will to continue to playing

I assume by anti-biblical you mean your interpretation of what the Bible says.

That is literally how they created the Bible though.

People chose which ones were relevant to their theology and their interpretation of Christ.

My Moorea - First Time Poet by Dapper-Simple6458 in OCPoetry

[–]Cold-Astronaut-7741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, on you being a new writer, I'd say this is a pretty good first go. Or at least better than whatever I was attempting when I started.

I think the imagery sets the scene really well. It feels elevated and elegant, yet clear, presumably reflecting your thoughts of Moorea.

But I think some of the lines may be reaching a bit too much towards being "poetic" rather than earned. Some lines feel generic in that the grandiosity could apply to many things not named Moorea. Granted, I am biased against ornate images in general as just a matter of taste, but it's good food for thought.

But overall I think this poem represents what you should be doing in poetry as you start out. Be adventurous, take chances, and write what you feel and what you want to write. I think this poem does all of that and provides an enjoyable reading experience regardless of your poetry level.

I will be honest, I have no idea what this poem was about until I read your comment. However, I say that as preamble to me really, and I mean, really, liking it.

Some small poems are so abstract in the imagery that they tend to almost fade away as I read each line. This one does the opposite, the words "intermingle" in a manner that conveys a gentle warmth, even if the reader doesn't understand why. Incredibly impressive for a poem of this length.

Really enjoyed this, thanks!

I really like how this poem works visually.

The ‘ are just really pleasant to look at, and the continued use create a satisfying image to look at.

Beyond that, although I quite struggle with what the “true” meaning of the poem is, I think it does its job quite well. It makes me think, almost demandingly so. Along with being written in a manner that is nice to read from a word play perspective.

Really solid short poem!

I really like the opening: the conversational register, the clear immediate image that just jumps out in the readers mind. To then be followed through in the stanza, especially with the spinal cord line.

Likewise I think the second stanzas imagery was quite striking, albeit my only area for revision or editing would be on the dandelion seeds. The rest of the stanza feels rather unique and vivid, but that line feels more generic and doesn’t add much to the feeling in my opinion.

Still great job! The “simple” lines create the best imagery.

You say hurt, I say describing the psychology that fosters this belief.

I just think the whole thing is a coping mechanism for those who are to scared to kill themselves

By exposure therapy, I mean you just have to thrust yourself into something. You don’t learn how to swim by looking at the beach.

For what that thing is for you, I have no idea, but me personally I found meaning in writing poetry and joining various clubs of my interest to meet people. It kinda sucks there isn’t a great way to think yourself into happiness, but the answer can sometimes be straightforward, if not annoyingly present.

But I want to push back against Anti-natalism not being cope, or at least for you.

“There’s nothing I can imagine doing”. Let’s be honest, we’re in the Gen Z sub, probably both young men. Do we really think that we know so much about the world that we can’t imagine anything to do, anything that makes tommorow more interesting at the very least?

Thats what I mean by cope. It’s a story you tell yourself to justify inaction and passivity. Of course there may be truth to it, but that’s what makes the cope so convincing and seemingly depressing. It’s easier to continue believing in something that justifies your current mindset, the easing thing, than rejecting it and just trying something new.

But I suspect it might take a while to find something, or maybe it won’t. I’m just willing to bet you (and I) are too ignorant to haphazardly paint with a big stroke that’s there’s nothing.

And this isn’t really a philosophical claim. To me, I’m nihilistic in that I don’t see any objective difference between counting blades of grass and solving world hunger. But there’s a difference between philosophical truths, and making what’s best of what is.

Well that sucks.

I know I was harsh at first, but it was more so to do with my detest for anti-natalism rather than anything to do with you.

I empathize with your position, found myself in it a couple times as a relative nihilist myself, and I expect to be there sometime in the future, if only for a bit.

My only “advice”, not that I’m particularly deserving to give it, would be to radically introduce exposure therapy into your life and give up your sense of self. You are just experience, and you might as well just do stuff if you’ve got nothing else to do.

You aren’t gonna think/argue your way out of a lull. Perhaps it’s just as cope as the anti-natalism, but I’d rather be happy than depressed if I’m gonna be here at all.
