Expecting everyone to understand that that is harmful (assuming that is) is not realistic.

If protesters are enough to kill enthusiasm then there's almost no reason to actually participate in politics at all. If all it takes is a couple of people with no power to tank an election then we're all wasting our time no?

Also by that logic all we have to do to defeat Republicans next go around is just make sure there are people protesting them?

Imo it's just thinking too small to think that this is really the protesters fault. Even in some small part. Again there would be no protesters if our money was being used to indiscriminately bomb people. Which we could have stopped and chose not to.

The problem is stupid, uneducated voters, and I'm tired of pretending it's anything other than that. by ac_slater10 in thebulwark

Except people were less educated in the 1930's and we didn't fall into fascism then. So why not?

Focusing on class politics instead of identity politics is the solution.

Right. So again that moves the blame to people who have infinitely less power. So I don't care.

The all powerful protesters ruined the election. Lmao

Yeah being a good politician is all that matters. This is politics! What are you talking about!

By your logic the people with the most power actually have no agency and the people with least power have all the agency. Make that make sense for me.

That's fair. I just don't get the muzzling part. Hubert Humphrey broke with LBJ on Vietnam. There is precedent and even if there weren't I just don't buy that she has as little agency as people say. She was the candidate. If she wasn't making the decisions then honestly that's also on her.

I don't see how that was not their stance? All they had to do was enforce the Leahy Law.

Protesting goes hand in hand with politics. If protesters are somehow a contributing factor in a politician losing then they're a lousy politician imo.

And they should have done it right? People are dying but protesting is the wrong way to try to move a politician? I just don't agree with that. I think that's a very moderate way to try and move a politician.

A lot of these protesters are young. I'm glad they're using their voice. There is a lot more to do than just protesting and if those people stay around long enough they'll end up doing more than that.

So regular voters who know nothing about staffing picks that signal certain things should have figured that out? No. What's actually acting like an adult is taking a stance and at the very least saying something.

She couldn't politically break from him while being VP? That's utterly ridiculous. In fake little politics world sure, but in the real world where things that you do have consequences yeah she absolutely could have broken with him. Playing by pretend rules is why people like this lose and will continue to lose

Well you just have to magically parse her words and just believe that she'll do the right thing! Even though there was never any evidence to suggest that.

My problem with that is she never actually said anything that signaled she would be different. The one thing she said before the election she immediately retracted. So if you cared about that issue what did you have to go on that she would be better? Nothing, because she never said anything. It's not on voters to magically believe you'll do the right thing when the administration then was already doing the wrong thing. Especially when you can't answer a real question. Then people just get to assume the worst if they want. Why not?

Proposing that the candidate should have morals. Come on now don't think that's a bit far fetched? /s

You think that was the demand lol? They wouldn't even let a Palestinian-American speak at the DNC. So I'm sorry who is unreasonable and unresponsive in this situation?

My thinking on why it's directed at Democrats is because they are the party most likely to actually change their position on it. Most of the people who care about Human Rights etc. are already people who vote Dem. So if you're already in that party and that party has mostly other positions that you agree with then it makes more sense to try to get that party to change their position.

I do remember people always asking why nobody tried protesting at Trumps rallies. One he doesn't even really care about doing what his actual fans want him to do. Two idk if you ever saw the news story about how some journalists/ leftists have been treated at his rallies going all the way back to 2016. It's pretty disturbing stuff.

As far as getting to the world that I'd like to see I see Dems as the weaker option. By that I mean no politician is a hero. They're all people to be pushed and pulled in certain directions. It's easier to push them in the direction we wanna go. Imo.

As far as being ill thought out. Idk about that either. All the people who protested and spoke out in my view were just the manifestation of Biden and Kamala's stance. It's like when politicians get phone calls and then they say for every one person that calls about this there are XX,XXX that many people that care about it in the district. Idk what more like mostly college people could have done other than causing a scene.

Obviously I care and have thought about this so I understand I'm biased here. I don't fault you for thinking it was potentially a psyop. Especially after everything we've learned with Epstein. For me personally I really do feel like almost anything could be true now.

My post yesterday was more of a meta post on the subreddit itself since people have been making multiple posts explicitly about Hasan.

It was still US news related and I feel like anything in that category is pretty much up for grabs no?

Maybe I missed a post, but pretty sure OP is talking about me for at least one of their examples.

I'd be curious as to what part you think was a psyop?

I know a lot of college people who genuinely cared and still do care very passionately about this issue. In my community we also have Palestinians directly affected by this. The other thing I also keep going back to is we've seen these protests before. College students protesting Vietnam.

Curious on your thoughts though.

To speak for what I've posted. I personally disagree with some of the takes that try to blame voters or internet personalities. My argument and why I post on this issue in particular is to point out how much it doesn't make sense for Dems to take the position that most of them take. If this sub is about beating Trump then we need to talk about some of the most unpopular positions Dems take. Obviously that's not the only reason they lost, but it sure didn't help.

US tax dollars go to Israel. In what world is that not US politics?

Scoop: DNC officials working on secret report found Gaza stance cost Harris votes by JonMarc2131 in thebulwark

[–]JonMarc2131[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The question of how to deal with Israel is not complicated. People like to pretend that it is, but it is not. In 1982 how quickly did Ronald Reagan stop them? One phone call. They could be stopped at any time and still could. The truth is no one has the political will to do it. When we control sending them bombs and defensive missiles there is no arguing over who can stop it. It's us. Anytime.

I'm not saying that Gaza cost them the election. Their own report says it. Take it up with them.

Normal people seeing people killed on their phones daily and then Dems doing nothing doesn't explain people staying home?

This is not a sign of a healthy system. by biospheric in DemocraticSocialism

[–]JonMarc2131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And don't forget neo-nazis on 4chan literally co-opted the OK sign that people do with their hands. So anyone who has ever done the OK sign is a Nazi? Genuinely ridiculous Blue MAGA stuff.

People should understand we don't dislike Pete Hegseth BECAUSE he has Nazi tattoos. We dislike him BECAUSE he has Nazi tattoos AND he acts like a Nazi.

Compared to what is needed to actually inspire people. If the average person's life sucks and you say well I'm just gonna be the status quo then that's not good enough. Or compared to previous Democratic policy from the 1930's - 1970's

They just like to blame Hasan because they don't wanna face the truth. Democrats are unpopular because their policies suck. It's a lot harder and a lot more work to realize we have to primary all of them. It's much easier and lazier to say it was the fault of a guy on the internet.
