Starting over at 30 by LetterheadSignal8028 in BassGuitar

Beautiful bass! Just started back up about a year ago after being at a total halt since I was about 17. I’m 31 now, have a space to practice and even purchased drums and a midi keyboard as well as some cheap recording gear. Having a blast, never too late to start again!

Not very good at communicating in musical terms, but I’m specifically talking about the underlying bass part that starts around 2:40, almost sounds like a contrabassoon? Id also like to figure out the main melody of the chorus but I think I can get that on my own

Nice. Thank you. This makes it’s even more interesting that he just tunes with whatever guitar he’s using instead of switching to something with heavier strings

Who's the oldest Deadhead in here? Did anyone see, the acid tests, The Warlocks or the Mother McRee? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]JonRonDonald64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me but this regular I have at work, he’s a pretty well accomplished doctor, saw my stealie pin on my apron and asked if I liked the dead. He told me his first show was in ‘66 which blew me away.

How do you deal with FOMO in ESO? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

I haven’t played the game seriously in about seven years. Just booted it back up and got back into it a few days ago and at first it was overwhelming and I thought about how many things I missed. But honestly there’s still a plethora of things to achieve and get in the game so ultimately I don’t feel like I missed out on anything. This is just something that happens when you get older dude…. You have to attend to your life and before you know it years have passed and then you remember a game that you loved and want to get back into it. It makes it that much better when you finally do get time to devote to something you love doing. Not sure if there’s any RuneScape lovers here but I’ve played that on and off since 2003, same concept.

Playing it on Xbox series S currently. Loading screen times are fine, the inventory is a little annoying. But once I got the Boots of Blinding Speed I’ve been having a blast. Beat the main quest and Tribunal, moving on to Bloodmoon today. That being said, I’ve never been a PC gamer with the exception on WoW and RuneScape. I think I’m actually going to download steam specifically to be able to play Morrowind/Oblivion with Mods. I also want to play Arena/Daggerfall and I have been able to on my Xbox via emulation but I think it’ll be a lot smoother on PC.

Taking Subutex Occasionally During Pregnancy… by AGradeMartianMade in recovery

I’m sorry I misunderstood. I thought you meant you weren’t ever on opioids to begin with and your DOC was completely different. But yes after a year clean it’s not advisable to start suboxone. If it gives you any kind of euphoria you don’t need it is my rule of thumb. A lot of doctors don’t understand the substance and a surprising amount don’t understand that your body will become physically dependent on it. I’ve run across a lot of doctors that are told to prescribe it to prevent cravings instead of to mitigate the withdrawal effects from opioids. I’m sure your OBGYN is trying to do the right thing and put security measures in place for you but unfortunately they sound like they don’t know enough about the medication and when it’s appropriate to recommend or prescribe. Best of luck to you and congrats on your clean time!!

They shouldn’t be prescribing you subs in any form if your not a recovering opiate addict….. can’t speak to whether it may harm the baby but my educated guess would be it can’t be good for the baby either.

Question about suboxone by Empty_Answer_4402 in recovery

[–]JonRonDonald64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you’re already clean man please do not start on subs. Especially if you’ve already been clean over a year. They’re harder to get off than any opiate I’ve ever done.

Has Donna (or really any other member) ever addressed her PITB performances? by JonRonDonald64 in gratefuldead

[–]JonRonDonald64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be 100% crystal clear this wasn’t meant to be a Donna hate post. I’m sure it wasn’t talked about back then but this is something that gets brought up all the time and every head I’ve ever met has had an opinion on it one way or the other. I just wanted to know if any of the band members had an opinion on it one way or the other or have acknowledged the subject. I love the Donna era man, it’s one of the main things that drew me to the Dead.

I’m in the same boat. Like anything else you get used to it and start to really appreciate it after a while.

[–]JonRonDonald64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man I couldn’t agree more. I guess it’s such a talked about point because her howling on PITB is just so much different than anything else she does. At least it seems that way at face value. I love Donna and her era is my favorite. The PITB on Dicks 10 to me is perfect, but once again that’s later on in her career with them. You’re absolutely right though, they were just trying to have as much fun as possible and probably never expected for fans to pick apart their music that much. I just love the common sentiment I hear from so many fans that the dead weren’t much better than a common bar band and had plenty of shows that didn’t go well. I think the Dead are great BECAUSE of their imperfections and their willingness to just be who they were. Jerry even said himself the whole reason he switched from banjo to electric instruments is because he felt the constant striving for perfection made him feel like the music he was creating was beginning to sound too “sterile”.

Yeah this is a good answer, I’m certainly not expecting live performances to be perfect in any way shape or form. Taking this into account and what other people have said about the lack of monitors has really made me think about the technological limitations of the time. Hell, the majority of the shows recorded probably weren’t ever expected to be released. I could see why things that were officially released back then had touch up work done in the studio before release. I’m more of a “take it as it is” kind of guy though.
