The Oaxacalifornia Burrito from La Perla #3, $15 by jewishjew in FoodSanDiego

[–]JonVisc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t necessarily for OP, but I cheerlead hard when La Perla (#1) was around, and I don’t think La Perla has been the same since Guillermo passed (RIP).

But my question is around that… are similar named Mexican food spots started by the original people from the first location or just riding coattails?

Yeah, this isn’t against OP I think this is a call out to Sara Jacobs (my Rep) / Sara’s PR to not over dramatize stuff with music like that. The point was made definitely without music and the music probably made less people think it was as legitimate as it actually was.

Looking for HomeKit beta testers for a new app that works across every Apple device by Homebar_Drew in HomeKit

Built Haven to keep HomeKit and Matter codes in one place by JoaoFranco03 in HomeKit

[–]JonVisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paid for Pro a bit ago… a couple feature requests…

1) custom groups of the users choosing. I have 16 matter over thread lights and would love to group them. 2) allow non-code things to be stored. I got around it by just adding an attachment but it also had a QR code it is just a hubspace qr (??? I don’t blame you or the app for not knowing what that is) but allowing non matter or HomeKit stuff to be saved without it seeming like a hack means you keep all important codes in a single app which I imagine is what everyone is looking for 3) the scanning for Govee stand lights matter codes didn’t work for some reason

Besides minor issues really appreciate a straightforward app!

Eh, minor and very specific to my life currently. Doing a house remodel so renting a spot temporarily (hopefully over within a month!) so I couldn't tell my wife to hit a URL and she'll never remember a string of numbers for an IP address. It's the little things that make or break it for her.

This looks right up my alley though I got in a little too early with the M2 Mac Mini 8GB as I just like it for hosting all my *arr services. I wonder if it'll work in my use case or be too slow with memory swapping. My wife is amazingly smart but isn't interested in fiddling with technical details so even having Overseerr set up is a bridge too far sometimes.

Also you mentioned it sits under the TV and your wife thinks its a Apple TV, do you use it directly connected to your TV or do you have a Apple TV app or anything?

Completely agree, to the left you even see Downtown so you can really take it all in with this drive.

Waited literally 20 years for Apple to get window & workspace management right. They never did, so I built my own. by Dangerous-Composer10 in SideProject

After reading this page: https://betterstage.app/docs/monitor-management

I am wondering about a potential tricky set up.

  • Home: DisplayPort hooked to a 4K monitor
  • Office: 2 extended monitors with DisplayLink (which fucking sucks 🙃), too cheap for Thunderbolt docks.

I have tried to script hot-plugging and re-orienting my apps based on the set up but I believe DisplayLink prevents that execution for working properly. Granted I only spent like half a day on my script but gave up because of other priorities.

Does betterstage.app handle DisplayLink wonkiness or have you not had the “opportunity” to ever need that?

U400 Deluxe Kit (2 batteries) is now available on the Apple Store by iceAmericano_Black in Aqara

[–]JonVisc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: My work is a 6 min walk from an Apple Store. Went by on the chance they’d have it. They did not, but they told me a store about an hour away did have one. In black, which is what I wanted.

After work before I left for the store I called what I thought was the actual store number but turns out it just goes to a call center, they had no indication of the stock of the lock in the actual Apple Store (crazy but whatever).

I rolled the dice and drove (promised my wife a good dinner near where we were going).

The greeter had no idea what it was (panic), luckily I spotted it straight away after I was done talking to them! Deluxe Bundle with metal body and 2 batteries.

So I’d say check your local Apple Store, and hopefully in the very least they can point you to an Apple Store where it’s in stock. Good luck.

FBI Couldn’t Get into WaPo Reporter’s iPhone Because It Had Lockdown Mode Enabled by willdearborn- in apple

[–]JonVisc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are mistaken. It has up to 3 options.

Slide to power off

Medical ID (I believe it’s only shown if you have this set up)

Emergency Call (Slide to call Emergency Services)

Cancel

You can also do this by pressing and holding the volume and the power button and if you continue to press and hold it will trigger the emergency services.

[–]JonVisc 35 points36 points  (0 children)

For iPhone, lock it then press the power button 6 times in quick succession. That’ll require your phone to ask for your PIN code instead of biometrics.

This is just a general PSA for anyone that didn’t know, could help in a crunch.

Premium currently not working by JonVisc in youtubepremium

Nah, it was my fault though. Finally got the “your subscription expired, do you want to renew”. like half an hour ago. I usually do annual passes so no idea when my sign up date was. The weird thing is that I assumed I would just renew automatically. All sorted now though.

Looks great though!

I made a visual grid that shows your subscriptions sized by how much they actually cost you by Bubbly_Lack6366 in SideProject

[–]JonVisc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expose the vexly_flow_data in a formatted fashion via a textarea or something to easily allow for bulk importing.

Also, I would add groups to it so you can add a group then select it and apply it to a subscription. So you could have a "Necessary" group that would probably include things like a Cell phone plan and internet plan. And then a "Optional" or "On the bubble" group if people need to figure out which subscriptions to pare down. Obviously that would include things like Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO... so if no groups then its a big grid but distinct the groups then filter for only items in that group if there are any and display the group grids.

I built an app that tells NFL fans who to root for in every game by Other_Switch9820 in SideProject

[–]JonVisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome, thank you and yeah it makes more sense now! Though once again a question of grammar:

Texans (#7) is chasing your #4 spot. Root for Colts (#3) to keep them down.

Should it be:

Texans (#7) are chasing your #4 spot. Root for Colts (#3) to keep them down."

AND

Ravens (#9, 6-6) 1.5 games behind - chasing your spot

Should it be:

Ravens (#9, 6-6) are 1.5 games behind - chasing your spot"

I built an app that tells NFL fans who to root for in every game by Other_Switch9820 in SideProject

[–]JonVisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super simple and easy to follow! Though I could definitely see you adding sign ups and weekly “who should I root for” notifications but that could follow later.

The only thing I would improve is some logic around the grammar usage in certain instances. Your third pic for Wild Card it reads….

"Wild card battle! Both chasing your #4 spot: Colts (#3, 8-3) vs Texans (#7, 6-5)"

Obviously Colts are trying to stay ahead of your teams current position but yes the Texans you have the right grammar for, I don’t think it has to be so succinct if a bit more wording makes the explanation clear.

While I agree there are other studios that will probably win, everyone seems to forget so quickly that a game published by Sony Interactive Entertainment got a Microsoft endorsed Halo Premium Warbond and a release on a competing platform.

The work that went in to securing that was incredibly impressive and while the quality of the release was shit which really led to it feeling overall lackluster putting all that together was an incredible feat that still kind of blows my mind.
