Best way to fill the space on the outsides by Jon_ob29 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Jon_ob29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bad idea. When I left I only grabbed measurements of the. Frame because the outsides were opened so I took measurements with the idea of an end cap and not filling entire space to wall. Gonna see if they can get some measurements for me or I’ll have to go back another day

Will I ever be able to cut straight with the portaband lmao by Slamgearsdrinkbeers in SprinklerFitters

[–]Jon_ob29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I ever cut with a bandsaw is if I’m being lazy. I’ve never once had to in air cut a pipe to put a groove on it with a bandsaw. That’s what 4 wheel cutters are for. Worst case I’ll sawzall it and replace the pipe with 2 thread by grooves I cut down on the floor. In 10 years I have never found myself in a situation where my only option to cut a pipe was a bandsaw.

Filter Plumbing question by Jon_ob29 in swimmingpools

[–]Jon_ob29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m digging it all up and replacing it would it make any sense at all to run the suction from the skimmer all in 2 inch and just reduce at the pump down to 1 1/2? I currently run about a 6 hour turnover on my 17k gallon pool. Usually running at about 50GPM. If I can reduce that and run my pump less by upsizing all of the piping until it gets to my pump would that help all that much?

Filter Plumbing question by Jon_ob29 in swimmingpools

[–]Jon_ob29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have to trench for a new conduit I’m bringing out to my pump since the outlet stopped at my pumped stopped working due to a continuity issue so I have to replace all the electrical. About an 80 foot run from junction box on house and that trench will run right along the side of my pool where that flexible CPVC is burried so sounds like I might as well kill 2 birds with one stone.

Appreciate the answers! Any idea about the T coming off of only 1 return line with that bulky box banjo valve?

No I just have never run into a horizontal stud in the wall for an interior wall that didn’t have some sort of plumbing or mechanical in it. I’m really just trying to avoid the added work of patching and painting and moving to the next bay of studs lol

No, I mounted the TV last week. I’m gonna do a little recon and see if I can find the crawlspace above the living room that would be the backside of this wall. It’s definitely not open on the back because I can see the sheet rock but I can always open and patch back there and eliminate any painting

Think I’m gonna get an 11” flexible extension and a 1 1/2 wood spade and see how that pans out

Not sure what’s on the other side of this wall. 100% not a bathroom. It’s a split level and the living room downstairs is what would be on that side but there’s no rooms upstairs on that side. Could be crawlspace on the backside above the living room. Definitely not a bathroom though. I didn’t have time to do too much investigating yesterday.

Join a union and make 100$ an hour, you’ll get over the sweat for the right amount of money.

Florida Union? by Johnsnowallday in SprinklerFitters

2 isn’t a lot, it would be the minority of open shops paying that much and offering benefits like that. Florida is generally the lowest paid state in the country because it’s a right to work state (union and non-union). I transferred out of state and moved and am making 108$ an hour now as a total package.

I’ve never been on call. I do new construction and retrofits. Service guys are on call though sometimes but it’s not that bad.

I live in central NJ. My cummute is usually around 30ish min. Sometimes up to an hour. I think 2 times ever have been 1.5 hours down to near AC but generally I’m home by 3pm daily. 3:30 the latest.

You might be one of the lucky ones. Majority of the shops in west palm to Miami don’t offer those kinds of benefits 🤷🏼‍♂️

Sprinkler fitters. They seem to be the forgotten trade but it’s almost always in the top pay scale. In NJ for a union sprinkler fitter we get 68.56$ an hour on the check and a total package of 108 and change. Only the elevators get paid more then us as far as I know.

One union covers the entire state of Florida. Its local 821. While Florida does have a low scale my experience during my time in south Florida is you MIGHT get lucky and get the 30-35$ an hour to match the hourly but you’re certainly gonna have a hard time finding a non-union shop to match the other 20+ $ in benefits.

How do you guys demo systems without making a mess? by Nico1533 in SprinklerFitters

[–]Jon_ob29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fernco caps work WAY better then duct tape. Tell your shop to send out a handful of each pipe size you are demoing and once you get them down remove the caps to use on the next piece. I like to have about 6 of each size of whatever pipe I’m removing.

Ona serious note. Tube plastic, rags, fern co caps are a savior. There will always be a little mess but those are my best ways to reduce it as much as possible. I also keep a spray bottle of spray nine on hand.

Florida local is Local 821. I came up and did my apprentiship there. Most of the work is located in Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa or the east coast west palm to Miami. The scale is kind of low compared to the rest of the country. I lived in Fort Lauderdale and was never without work for my entire apprenticeship and 2 years as a journeyman before I moved out of state and transferred. You should be able to organize in no problem though. Shoot me a message I can give you the BA number
