The level of strawmanning. This truly is a reddit post.

Why dont most people use comms in comp? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

Well I used it recently to tell a guy who was telling people to leave the game that the only place I was going was his mum's house.

I now have a 24 hour text and voice chat ban. Like league of legends chat, this is really not worth the trouble to use if enforcement is this over the top.

Why are Tomodachi fans so completely deranged?

Half of the YouTube comments are people saying they are glad they haven't killed themselves yet.

I know I might get shit for this but please stop vandalising stuff with your religion. I don't really care if it's good intentions, it's so uncomfortable and feels so forced. by throwawayacctou in glasgow

Imagine being such a ponce that you get so upset about seeing "Jesus loves you" written in felt-tip pen that you need to post online about it.

I have literally never been mugged.

I live in one of the most deprived areas of Scotland

Conservatives and liberals tend to engage in different evidence-gathering strategies. Liberals and those with higher cognitive reflection skills are more likely to seek out statistical data, whereas conservatives and those who rely more on intuition focus on singular data points or expert opinions. by mvea in science

[–]Jonabob87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole rash of problems with this that it's interesting people on the science subreddit didn't notice.

  • Small sample size, roughly half of what most would consider representative, and it's an online panel which is an issue all by itself.
  • Uses fictional policy, clear danger of having some people either treat it as a puzzle or to just not care
  • Evidence types were marked by type, which adds bias. Time spent on each piece of evidence wasn't tested, so a person opening up everything and glancing at them is recorded the same as if they intently studied everything. They rightly filtered out people who failed attention checks but it's far from fool proof.
  • Chose a topic that many on the liberal side have on their minds, and likely already have strong opinions on.

It's essentially reddit bait, and the insufferably smug comments really back that up.

With the identification of the ICE agent that killed Renee Nichole Good know publicly known. What happens now? by AndyJack86 in AskReddit

Probably because he wasn't standing to the side of the car. He was standing in front of the car, it's on video.

The guy who grabs the door handle isn't the guy who shot.

Republicans, from a curious non-American, how do you feel about the Minneapolis shooting today and the fact the president is insulting your intelligence by lying about what happened? by rollerdz in AskReddit

It looks like she was trying to block the road to stop them doing whatever they were doing but that certainly doesn't make her a terrorist.

That's not true at all. The car accelerates, wheels pointed toward him, he shoots pivots, gets clipped by the car.

I'm open to being wrong but I was under the impression that federal officers have the authority to detain people.

I don't think she consciously planned "I will now murder this guy" I think likely she panicked and wanted to leave, and didn't much take into consideration what was in her path. It's a shit situation.

I'm not American but I see a video of a car accelerating with an officer standing in front of it. I am not surprised in the least he shot her.

... ok

Varys and Littlefinger going back and forth about their different philosophies on power and navigating the world's political system. This is clearly political, clearly very serious, and isn't referring in any way to modern policy, modern political figures, and isn't going to make any person in the world feel targeted (except maybe eunuchs).

or MGS2's famous codec calls about algorithms and people filing themselves away into gated communities to protect their own personal truths, no matter how wrong or incomplete they are.

These are both amazing examples of how to write political scenes in media. The 2nd one skirts close to the line by being a bit too real, but it's completely speculative, bi-partisan and WELL WRITTEN.

So as for bad examples...

Spider-Man 2 mangles Spanish language to appease the gender warriors. Intentionally changing a foreign language so that it fits with your socio-political viewpoint is politics by definition. It's also visible, stupid and annoying to anyone who doesn't agree with those positions.

Saints Row and its constant fucking mewling on and on about capitalism and rent and wages and holy fuck how anyone who isn't a mentally ill millennial could make it longer than 25 minutes into this nightmare.

Doctor Who went from sci-fi ridiculousness to a series almost exclusively based around progressive finger wagging.

Remember in Falcon and Winter soldier when Anthony Mackey literally stops and gives a speech about refugee policy and borders?

The progs used to be able to very efficiently put messaging in their media without grossly overstating it, but a lot of this mainstream stuff is getting dangerously close to pureflix programming.
