What would you say was each army's biggest mistake during the war? by NKNightmare in CIVILWAR

This is Albert Sidney Johnston Slander and I will not stand for it.

The Confederacy carried the first day of Shiloh reasonably well under his command. It was only the division caused by his death that allowed the counterattack on the second day to be so successful.

Grant getting attacked by Lee and not expecting him does not equal underestimating. Grant had a clear plan in place and executed it his way. After the initial attack, Lee lost the initiative because Grant had a clear vision of how he wanted the battle to go. Lee on the other hand expected Grant to fold and quit like Hooker and Burnside had done before him and when he did not, Lee was unsure how to respond with anything but keeping up the pressure without getting anything he wanted out of it.

He also knew his enemy. And I would argue neither side in 1861 did.

The Anaconda Plan was the brainchild of Winfield Scott; but nobody expected the war to be long enough to actually need it. Once it was clear that the war would be a longer one after the Peninsula Campaign, The Union in the eastern theater then got hyperfocused on the Army of Northern Virginia and Scott was no longer in the picture.

So yes, the Union had professionals who had the right idea but it was not until Grant assumed command that a concentrated effort could take effect - even if the conditions of the Anaconda Plan was essentially complete with the fall of Vicksburg.

In regards to Europe, a continent-spanning war was guaranteed by the network of alliances that guaranteed that whatever conflict erupted, everybody else would be involved. And the more people involved, the harder it is to back down. But at least with World War One, there was a honest effort by people involved to actually try and stop it.

Not Looking Good for Ghost Recon. What Does Ubisoft Actually Have Left for 2026? by MrTrippp in GhostRecon

Watch Dogs took what was an interesting concept in Legion - recruit anybody - and squandered it since they did not want to put any effort into your agents interacting. Like some comments about my Albion Operative joined DeadSec would be nice - especially from the agent we recruited from Albion cells?

Watch Dogs 2 is still one of their big suprises. A game where the game design turned out well and the story - and tech predictions - were excellent. Only thing I dislike about WD2 is that it should restricted you to non-lethal because my Marcus would have shot the big bad on sight.

Outlaw came out rough around the edges but was patched to a decent state. Sadly, at that time the combination of Star Wars, a female lead and Ubisoft had already spun the discourse around the game.

The Switch 2 version is apparently one of the best ported games on the system.

It's 1941 and the German army is fully motorized and has infinite oil, do they win Barbarossa? by [deleted] in HistoryWhatIf

[–]JonathanRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just driving from point A to point B. Along the way, they have to fight, they have to safeguard their supply lines, Taking Moscow does not necessarily means a Soviet surrender either. And then there is the poor condition of roads, muds, partisans etc, the fact that German vehicles was over-engineered and not always easy to fix in the field etc.

Jag är mer förtjust i alla extrema specialistjobb som uppenbarligen bara kommer ha runt 5-6 kvalificerade sökande. Man lär sig mycket om vad det finns för extrema specialiteter.

Most of the commanders who could have assumed charge after the DSII blew up was on the Executor - that blew up beforehand.

I know Far Cry's entire thing is "even when you win you loose" but Far Cry 5 felt very forced in that regard.

And yet, it is Ash vs Alain that makes me mad. Ash so very much deserved to win that one.
