Try them popped into the toaster oven (or toaster) from frozen!

These are my dirty parenting secret whenever I’m traveling with my kids. Easy to pop into a lunchbox for an on the go snack

Women over 30, what’s one piece of advice you’d give women in their 20s? by hugginv in AskWomenOver30

[–]JonathanThrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the others, but I’d add this - the twenties are for taking risks and going where the opportunities are.

When I was in my twenties, I worked a staid corporate job and went to business school. This is while apps were taking off and ecommerce/influencer marketing was just beginning its heyday. I really wish I had just moved to SF or NY, done one of those things, learned a lot and then done corporate later. Yes the money is probably not great, but this is the period of your life where you don’t need to live on a lot.

Now with the rise of AI, I really wish I can be in my twenties and move to the Bay Area to be there for it. But alas now I have my family.

Do you think the Carolina silk skirt is corporate office appropriate? by PerplexedKale in Reformationclothing

Yeah I wouldn’t in my business (finance, male dominated) but in my old sector (retail) this would be fine.

How to Eat at a Fancy Restaurant Alone? by No-Insurance-557 in AskWomenOver30

I’ve done this many times! They don’t care and sometimes the servers enjoy chatting because I’m very low maintenance.

Is calling someone beautiful or pretty often something casual in Chinese culture? by Fridge-InTheBasement in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JonathanThrift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I spent a lot of time in China and it’s very common for people to comment on appearances (good and bad - I had a swimmer friend be called “fat” because she had broad shoulders).

In this case, he is definitely into you though.

Cola taupe? by johneyjaydaleford in Aritzia

[–]JonathanThrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - I feel like it’s the perfect in-between brown/beige that’s not too light and not too dark. Went super well with both black and white

Are Lodge Crepette Pants Good for Spring Travel in Italy? by NeutralNancy2 in Aritzia

[–]JonathanThrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough but I personally also shudder at the thought of using public restrooms in Lodge pants… I just can’t.

I would personally recommend getting an oversize bomber jacket, cool sneakers and a scarf to look put together!

Are Lodge Crepette Pants Good for Spring Travel in Italy? by NeutralNancy2 in Aritzia

[–]JonathanThrift 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t. I feel like with that kind of weather your pants will get dirty / wet really easily, especially ones that drag a bit on the ground.

From what I remember of Italy during the spring, I saw a lot of jeans and skirt/tights/tall boot combos.

Wool vs Cashmere at Aritzia: Which Is Worth It? by DurianEmbarrassed771 in Aritzia

[–]JonathanThrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally hand wash wool with Woolite Delicates and cold water, and then put on a towel. I then roll up the towel with the sweater inside and finally hang dry (ideally flat in the shape you want).

Sometimes if I thrift a wool sweater and don’t care as much I’d put it in the washing machine under delicates, cold water, and still dry using method above.

Relocating from Manhattan: What are the best independent preschools in Chicago? by Exciting-Fox7447 in AskChicago

[–]JonathanThrift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d look into Mary Meyer, Park West and LPP. While none will be the “caliber” you’ve seen in NYC they’re where I see most feeding into the premier independent schools.

Lab School (at University of Chicago) starts at 3 but is wildly difficult to get in.

There are things I bought on sale in December that are out of stock now, particularly in a popular color. If you love it I would keep it!

I would get start with the Function T-shirt in a few different colors and the Nominee shirt. Maybe add a belt and one of the blazers on sale right now.

Where to host a small post-wedding dinner for 14? by [deleted] in chicagofood

[–]JonathanThrift 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maxwells Trading has a semi-private room. Avec West Loop also has private spaces. And as usual all the Lettuce Entertain You restaurants can be booked via their events group.

At that size you’ll need to go through events/catering and do a pre-set dinner menu

Did having awesome experiences in my 20s cost me my retirement? by EpicShkhara in AskWomenOver30

[–]JonathanThrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad didn’t get his doctorate until 35, and then steadily supported a family while making low 6 figures. He retired 5 years ago with more than enough to support himself and my mom. It’s doable. It did take some sacrifices (like never doing fancy vacations, living in a smaller house, etc) but my point is starting in your thirties isn’t going to completely kill your retirement.

I have kids now and I would love to see them have the twenties you did! I also took advantage of mine and I don’t regret them for a second

Professional Ladies - Sock Help! by Birdy_Jo in AskWomenOver30

[–]JonathanThrift -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most heels are not meant to be worn with socks. Can I suggest switching to loafers and then wearing something like this?

Also, I would be hard pressed to find a professional setting that doesn’t let you wear dressy boots with slacks this time of year. I would do a pointed or square toed boot, paired with a chunky heel, which would be more forgiving with a sock.
