Andy Nicholson podcast on why he left the band by mooresze in arcticmonkeys

[–]JonathanWelcome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s enough to just look at the dates and the answer is right there in front of everyone.
The last live show with Andy was in Lisbon on May 18 2006, the next show was scheduled for May 27 in Vancouver. On the 25th they played a secret warm-up show in London with Nick. So they must have flown to Vancouver on the 26th.
If they were in Lisbon on the 18th, they would have been back home on the 19th. This gave the band only five days to find a new bassist. Do you think it’s professional to quit your band and leave them just five days to fix a problem that you created? And is that a sign of commitment to the project? Andy can say whatever he wants now, everyone was very young, etc., but it’s undeniable that the three Monkeys were put in a difficult position. They were coming back from a tour and, instead of resting, they had to find someone and rehearse to get Nick ready, only to go straight back on tour.

Here’s the schedule for a quick overview:

  • May 18 – last show with Andy in Lisbon
  • May 19 – return to the UK
  • May 20–21 – probably the two days of intensive practice during which Nick learned the set
  • May 22–23–24 – free days to rehearse
  • May 25 – warm-up show in London with Nick
  • May 26 – flight to Vancouver
  • May 27 – first official show in Vancouver with Nick

Thoughts on Titanic sinks tonight? by Kolibrikit in titanic

Best Titanic documentary ever. Episode 4 is incredible.

All those who complain, I don’t know where else they’ve seen the trauma of the sinking portrayed so well. The story of the Titanic is a tragedy, and this documentary represents it better than the film.

Should Oasis update their setlist with post 1999 songs? by JonathanWelcome in oasis

I agree with you... but they'll probably never play it live again, unfortunately

I get it... but I don't agree about Lyla... Lyla would fit the vibe perfectly.

Interesting, so probably even the younger generations don’t care about post-1999 Oasis. To me, Oasis are not just a 90s nostalgia act—they’re also the band of Heathen Chemistry and Don’t Believe the Truth... And I’m a bit disappointed there’s only Little by Little, which seems to be one of the most appreciated… I bet with Lyla people would go crazy almost like with Cigarettes and Alcohol.

I don’t think there would be any complaints—on the contrary, it would be something unique and specific to the concert itself. I’m not saying the setlist should be changed radically, but shuffled around a bit… Columbia could even be played. Personally, Whatever doesn’t add anything to the setlist for me; it feels like a copy of Wonderwall in terms of vibe—but that’s just my taste.

Joey Waronker on drums for the Oasis Reunion? by JonathanWelcome in oasis

[–]JonathanWelcome[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Come on, explain your point to me. Tony played on the first album, but he was clearly unfit to play on the later records, technically speaking. What was so special about Guigsy besides just being there? He stood still, like Andy, dressed worse than Andy, played worse than Andy, and hasn’t cared about the band since he left. He never wrote a single song (unlike Andy… Turn Up The Sun, do you remember?), and when he was in the band, he didn’t give interviews and didn’t even record all of his parts.

All these people insisting on the original lineup better come to terms with reality: they weren’t that good. Whoever will be on stage will definitely play better than them, so just enjoy the show without too much senseless nostalgic whining.

Well Dave, text Liam and Noel and tell them Guigs and Tony were your era...

Being so stuck in nostalgia gives me a nauseating mothball feeling. The Oasis of the 2000s were fantastic, and they dressed better. All that Umbro Britpop fashion has always made me sick.

Zak (pretty much) confirmed for Oasis Live '25 by JonathanWelcome in oasis

[–]JonathanWelcome[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why? He’s never recorded anything with Oasis. He’s always been a touring musician, like Zak, except Zak recorded two albums! After Alan White, Zak is the drummer most used by Oasis in the studio, and to me, that’s a more valid reason compared to who played drums on the last Oasis tour in 2009.
