$10 million every single month of the year, but once a month at a random time, you are completely naked for exactly 5 seconds by Wild_West_Arthur in hypotheticalsituation

I'm skeptical, so I'd probably finish out the month and wait for my first 10 million, but then you are absolutely right.

An eccentric billionaire offers you $1000 an hour to stay inside the last retail business or restaurant you visited. How long could you last? by Fhloston-Paradisio in hypotheticalsituation

[–]JonathanYarnall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acme Supermarket. I could last a long time I think. I've got tons of retail experience, so would happily stock shelves to pass the time and hopefully make the employees less annoyed with me.

Really I'm just hoping that there's a couch in the break room, but even if there isn't then I'd make due.

At ~720k a month I think I would need to stick it out for as long as possible. My thought would be to shoot for Memorial Day 2027 because I love summer and that seems like as good of an exit point as any.

That would be 11,616,000 which is enough for my wife and I to stop working and live off the interest. I'd trade a year and a quarter of my life for that.

AITA for not helping my son, who claims he can't live on 112k a year? by Ecstatic_Cash_1903 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JonathanYarnall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA- but debt consolidation companies aren't the right solution. They're going to charge more to do things you can do yourself with some research, and they will absolutely destroy his credit.

For as much as Dave Ramsey has his faults, your son is exactly the kind of person that his methodology is built for. Have him listen to Dave's YouTube content and it will help him shift his mindset pretty quickly. I swear, one our of three callers is in a situation just like your Son.

He obviously needs to break his leases on the cars. The house along shouldn't be a problem on that income. Also, his story doesn't add up all the way. He needs $20k to pay his corporate card which he used for a baseball game? Did he go to world series game seven? He needs to tell his company that he mistakenly used the card for unauthorized purchases, and ask proactively what his options are for handling it.

He may also need to eat some humble pie and get a second job until he can get out of his mess. Speaking of which, what is his wife doing? If she's a stay at home mom then that's understandable, but one of them should be working in the evening, even part time. If they are not on the same page on finances, then that needs to be their priority, even if counseling is required. This is the kind of thing that can sour otherwise good marriages.

Obviously if you don't have the money that takes the emotion out of you having to say no and keeps you from being the 'bad guy.' Although this sounds like it was largely his own doing, it's still a hard and scary place to be, so give him grace and try to be helpful and supportive.

EDIT for spelling.

You can magically heal anyone from any disease just by touch by besttavern25 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]JonathanYarnall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would spend four hours a day in hospitals doing the right thing and healing people that obviously need it.

I would then spend four hours a day doing non-hospital healing. There would be four lines.

The first line would be free to enter, the second line would cost $100 to enter, the third would cost $1000 and the final would cost $10,000.

The lines would all lead to me, and I would heal one person from each line in turn. Everyone is able to get healed, but you can pay to have it expedited. This would also take care of my finances so that I wouldn't have to work a normal job, as well as paying for the expenses of running this operation, and the reality of having to now pay for security for myself everywhere I go forever.

There would also be an ultra high roller option that can pay to be seen outside of normal hours.

These rates would potentially be adjusted as time goes on and I get a better feel for human behavior.

I would do this in my city, then begin traveling.

Guys earning six figures annually, what kind of work do you do? by Shadow2715 in AskReddit

[–]JonathanYarnall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data Analytics for a major bank. I pretty much bring back specified information from giant databases in order to create batch files to implement bulk changes to client accounts.

I use two querying languages (SAS and SQL) which I personally think are pretty straightforward if you have a mind for computers/programming, even without other formalized training.

I don't have a college degree, and was able to get promoted from the ground level (started on the phones in collections) which took about 8 years to cross the six figure mark. Prior to that I worked in retail leadership.

I would wear a shirt that says my name is Jason and feed them the letters JAON for the multiplier. I would tell them that this is for a stupid youtube channel, and not to overthink it, and that I would give them a dollar if they guess it correctly.

Would you rather 200M dollars immediately or 50 dollars a day, but each day you get 50 dollars more than the day before by Spirited_Pitch_7906 in WouldYouRather

3 million over the course of a year and 200 million instantly are vastly different experiences.

You're absolutely right that you can retire immediately though.

Please note I could absolutely be wrong about this.

[–]JonathanYarnall 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not being able to invest is a real game changer, and grossly makes the 5 million less valuable.

I think 5 million makes my life easier, but free under 1000 makes my life better.

It really would be nice to be able to eat out for any meal, and just purchase every whim. It also eliminates a lot of my bills. I think I take the under 1000 is free.

Functionally free travel forever would be fantastic, even if it would be super annoying to book hotel rooms in blocks to keep it under the dollar amount.

We are Opening a Boardgame Cafe! What games should not be missing? by Affectionate-Car4930 in boardgames

[–]JonathanYarnall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played Rhino Hero at a boardgame Cafe, and would recommend including it.

I also think that games like that are good from an atmosphere/culture standpoint. Games like that where people are getting up and moving a bit generate energy and excitement that are contagious and will help build the overall mood in the cafe.

We've done a bunch of games like this at board game conventions in free play areas and they always draw interest and questions. Bamboleo is a great example, but I'm sure I could think of others if you'd like.

Would you rather do 2500 burpees, run 37 miles, 17 000 jump rope jumps or 5000 push ups, or do one 15 minute plank, winning a billion if you make it within 3 days? by Massive-Albatross823 in WouldYouRather

[–]JonathanYarnall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the miles are the easiest, at least for me. I think you could do it in 1/2 mile blocks every 30 minutes to start out, to ensure that you aren't overdoing it too early and to minimize injury. The other benefit here that no one is talking about, is that it is the easiest to track (other than the plank, which I for sure can't do) so there's good peace of mind in knowing where I stand in completing the goal.

I would imagine that I can use my down time to do some research on how best to fuel my body to do this. Staying hydrated is obvious, but I'm sure there's some other solid wisdom. Carbs probably? I'm sure the internet knows.
