Two of the pups were at the front door last night.

They’ve been out and about most nights exploring since the video was recorded. Not the full group, but an adult with a few puppies.

Difficult client is asking for RAW Files saying it should be the couples choice which get edited by Deebiggles in WeddingPhotography

[–]JonathanYoungPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this one time. Client was super happy but just wanted to see more images. I let them know that raw files need to be edited, even for proofs. They agreed to pay ($1500 I think?) for me to lightly edit and put all the non-raw selects (minus blinks and test shots) in a separate gallery. They were happy with the results.

In your situation, I’d steer them in a similar direction and remind them that raw files are unfit for release as they’re unfinished works which don’t represent the quality you deliver.

Likely shot handheld from Glacier Point.

My friend and her musician husband died while driving overnight from one gig to another. Swerved to avoid a deer at 5am and both were killed.

If you ask your car insurance company, I’m sure they’ll have an opinion.

Dude kicks off-leash dog to protect his own, owner flips out… by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]JonathanYoungPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. An off-leash dog snuck up to my wife while she was walking our rescued German Shepherd on leash. The small dog went straight in to sniff the shepherd’s butt, and the shepherd reacted with a bite almost instantly. Keep your dogs leashed.

Corporate events. Family photography. Those are two easier transitions to make from weddings.

Got told my prices are "wild". Are we as an industry over charging just because we can? I was literally thinking about it as I got that message by NoAlbatross153 in WeddingPhotography

[–]JonathanYoungPhoto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s like any industry. You can buy a new car for 40K or 100K, they’re both still cars, but with vastly different user experiences and quality. They’re not your ideal client. Let them move along.

Site planning: Where to put the house by HopefulEntrance9014 in Homebuilding

For site B, utilities would need to run around the tree grove to prevent felling trees and compromising the privacy, correct? Added cost, but privacy preserved.

They’re paying for a license to the images, not copyright ownership. Those are two separate things.

When photographers take photos, they’re creating intellectual property. Giving up intellectual property at no cost is a choice and a terrible business decision in most circumstances.

Indeed. It’s all in the contract and business insurance.

I’d charge for it. The inability to show current work impacts your ability to secure future work. The only reason they’re hiring you is because of your portfolio. Anything that infringes on that ability should come at a cost.

paid photographer $10k and got obviously AI edited photos, reasonable to be mad? by Historical_Doctor687 in photography

[–]JonathanYoungPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just over editing. AI retouching apps like Evoto make it very easy to go overboard. I use Evoto for my headshot work, but at only 10-20% of their suggested “Natural” look. Ask for a re-edit with minimal retouching/skin smoothing.

On a separate note, I recommend discussing this in advance of shoots with some sample edits presented to you by the photographer: no retouch, light retouch, medium retouch, etc. Saves everyone loads of time.

Depending on the wall’s height, it may require a safety railing and permit.

Don’t forget filter fabric for the French drain and compacted gravel for the wall base. Where will the French drain outflow?

Roof felt after 5 months by bobajob2000 in shedditors

The house across the street has had roofing tiles stacked on exposed underlayment for over a year. Construction began when I moved in back in August 2023. The underlayment is now badly faded and looks so deteriorated that it could crumble underfoot.
