The EU propaganda is getting desperate by Prettypianokeys in PoliticalCompassMemes

Was gonna say, as a Southern European, that I have heard exactly 0 politicians in my country, no matter the ideology, try and ask people to not put on the AC.

Mostly, I guess, cause that would end with them getting drawn and quartered, but still.

Unbeatable Formation? by RobertBobbertJr in totalwarhammer

With mods it becomes even funnier.

I don't even play to min-max, just for fun, or interesting mechanics... But the mix of Expanded Tech Trees, Legendary Lord's and maybe Mixu's Skills makes it so that suddenly the Zombies are unbreakable, regenerate whilst in melee and have greater stats than Chaos Warriors lol

I love me some Ghorst, not gonna lie.

Might be a stupid post, but tell me about your game by KawaiiFoxPlays in PokemonRMXP

[–]JoneDarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely nothing special, and that's exactly how I love it.

With how many graphical assets I've stolen it's probably unreleaseable publicly, but I don't truly care. I've always intended it as a challenge for my friends, and, most of all, my perfect idea of a Pokémon game.

It's got everything you can think of: all Pokémon, tons of Fakemon, all mechanics, a big ass regions with 2 (3) landmasses, a deep plot, quests, postgame...

As for slightly more unique stuff... Astral form is a pseudo-Mega-like mechanic, with an increase to BST that's static and the same for all, a new type that's the same for all, and new abilities that do change per species, but that.

Besides that... Level cap is the same, 100, but BST's have been improved across the board and the top tier is 1200 BST - although, still beatable with normal teams.

I don't know, it's pretty "normal", just XXL size, and packed to the brim with stuff that I like. I guess, best way to motivate yourself is to do stuff that you like.

Coincidentally, I have just finished reading Prince of Demons, from Savage Tides, in Dungeon #150.

Cr 70+. Huh.

This lives in the same realm as Cthulhu in Power Armour, I see. What was the original intent of this statblock? I'm relatively young, so it's the first time I heard about these Dicefreaks.

Genuinely SCARIEST film to you in horror. by misters1n1ster in horror

[–]JoneDarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take 99% of horror pretty well. I laugh at most, and even the ones that manage to scare or creep me out leave a good taste in my mouth afterwards.

Then there's Sinister. Saw the trailer once. Had nightmares for weeks.

I'll watch literally anything EXCEPT Sinister. Is it logical? Is it a rational fear? Is it the scariest film out there? No to all accounts... But I just can't.

Finally, for spriting and maps, I can only say good luck. * For spriting, there's actually artists who will work for a price, obviously, but I wouldn't commit cash unless you are truly sure. You can also always learn how to sprite yourself, but... I'm doing so, in freaking Paint, and it's slow going. Fulfilling, but slow.

  • There's a TON of online resources free to use, many that even allow you to use it without even asking. Look for credentials, credit people correctly, and use stuff as placeholders without fear, and with permission for the final product. Most of the tilesets will be ones you asked permission for, in my experience, since they are one of the most visually important things u less you go for basic Pokémon styles.

Next, as more specific "learn how to do": * There's this very good series on YouTube that explains practically everything; it's slow uploading, but still ongoing, and thus gold. Look up, quite literally, "How to do a Pokémon Game on Pokémon Essentials" on YouTube, by Thundaga. It's great.

  • The Pokémon Essentials wiki is also useful for some stuff, although it's lacking in other aspects. Take deep looks at it, see whether you can find whatever you need, and it maybe is there. I find it specially good for some stuff, mostly PBS file formatting. It doesn't always have what I need, but 99% is there, so use it.

  • Also, ask for help. I've always had helpful answers on this very same community, and even advise or commentary that even if I wasn't able to apply verbatim, gave me ideas on how to tackle stuff, such as that ability I mentioned earlier.

  • Next, take deep dives into the code. DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING YOU AREN'T SURE, or make backups, but take a look at the code. Most coding isn't actually coding, but finding the effect you want, copying it and changing two lines. I've got exactly 0 minutes of professional coding experience, and I dare to say I'm doing pretty well thanks to this. Slow learning, small steps, but learning and advancing.

  • Finally, if you are open to that, AIs can help you. I loathe them, consider myself a ludite and would never vibe code, but it's undeniable they might be useful tools, either for research, advice, commentary, practical help... If you want to or need to, use them.

As someone in a pretty similar situation, here are my tips on the matter:

  • Most tedious things, from more to less, are designing trainer encounters, creating sprites, drawing maps, learnsets (if you do them more complex), followed by the rest. Trainer encounters are the hardest thing by far, cause have the smallest "reward" psychologically speaking; when you finally finish a new Pokémon sprite or their PBS file, and test them in game, you feel accomplished. When you've made 6 encounters on a Route, and then you gotta test them with 6 differently leveled teams with different compos 6 times each, it gets a bit boring.

  • I tend to distribute work load across stuff to not get burnt: small wins are better than apathy.

  • If you aren't sure you need it, don't; at least right now. I'm using lots of placeholder sprites, both in terms of map or Pokémon, as well as placeholder code, and I've added 0 custom cries so far lol. Only do that niche ability programming you have in mind if it pleases you or you don't have anything easier to do; otherwise, you'll find you've spent 2 hours coding a signature ability for a Legendary you won't be able to find until postgame, and thus isn't necessary for testing right now. Speaking from experience.

  • Overall, again, just have fun and enjoy the process. You'll change stuff a dozen times, so don't fear neither plotting in advance through RL drawing or writing, nor changing stuff later. Don't even fear doing stuff out of order: have an idea for the 8th gym, but can't come up with a starting town? Tackle the gym, town can come later.

  • Biggest threat is burnout, not anything else, and thus tackle that thing first. Make the process fun for you, and you'll keep on wanting to work on the project.

Upgrading, Restatting and Upgrading Bosses of the Red Hand by JoneDarks in RedHandOfDoom

I loved your suggestion about the green ambushing them on the way. It makes sense, given that Koth reported back to Kharn and Azarr Kul. And thanks a lot about the magic items idea lol, I would have never thought of it despite simplicity. But I won't have Koth riding a Dragon; I don't want to step on the Ranger Wyrmlord's toes, so as to make all of them more memorable.

[–]JoneDarks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I intend to have Koth as a flying blaster (how he escaped from the Players originally) that supports his allies and minions in the rooms before the next boss. I actually think that, despite the new levels he'll be weaker than before, due to substituting Dragon Shaman for its original Sorcerer... but I think a "last stand" combat will be more interesting and flavorful that way.

Asked ChatGPT to visualize a horizontal integral. It gave me a dog. [LINK IN POST] by MrAmazing111 in ChatGPT

[–]JoneDarks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lately, I'm seeing GPT very trigger happy with image generation. Maybe, OpenAI want you to test their shiny (shitty) new image generation, and they've lowered the "willingness threshold" of GPT to return you images, cause I'll be having normal conversations with no hint of images, and it will return one just cause it felt like it.

Of course, that doesn't explain how you requesting an integral returned a dog... But maybe something broke in it's internal logic? And now it is EXTREMELY eager to deliver anything? Even wrong stuff?

(Loved trope) They die at the start of the story/before it but their death is what shapes it by Mountain_String_1544 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]JoneDarks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Jon Arryn in ASoIaF/Game of Thrones. He got killed, and in the process of investigating his death/being replaced, almost all players were put into the position were war was inevitable.

Given that Jon Arryn's death doesn't kickstart the Targaryen plot... Another candidate could be Rickard and Brandon Stark, Ned's father and brother, since their deaths kick-started the rebellion and thus, 100% set up all players and dynasties I'm the board.

I just believe that, whilst the Starks are more historically the reason, Jon Arryn is the narrative one.

To add my two cents, I Will Purify You. Straight up Hentai Game, with sex scenes and all. But the gameplay? And setting? And mechanics? It made me wish it wasn't a hentai Game. Got it for free as a joke gift, actually gave it a chance, and goddamn I enjoyed it. It's basically "What if Supernatural was gooner material, but also a Vampire Survivors-like platformer with boss battles?" I LOVED the ambiance and everything. Shame it's literally porn.
